McDonald's bump vs Sydney

James McDonald was an incredibly fair player for many years in the AFL. The manner of his departure from the Demons and his recruitment to the Giants unfortunately stunk of desperation and meant that McDonald would be happy to do anything Sheedy asked. How typical of Kevin to tell his old charges to 'take out one of their boys' to prove a point. Junior will just sit in the coaches box for 2 weeks and do his real job.

Mate, how old old were you when Sheedy won his last flag? Like, seven years old?

Prefer to keep that memory repressed, thanks. :(

Talking the Sheedy of recent times, the one who threatened Double Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes with 'The Raging Bull' Izzy Folau.

Amazing that McDonald sat on a board last year that handed Rance 4 weeks for colliding with Waite in round 1 running in the same direction. He now gets a soft 2 weeks for fracturing a guys jaw:thumbsdown:

If the Swans had taken out a GWS teenager, this thread would be five pages long and flooded with 'sniper' and 'dog act' comments. Guaranteed.

It was a cheap high shot. Not the end of the world, McDonald gets his two weeks, move on. I get the feeling Parker will give him one back in the return fixture.
No it wasn't.

The penalty was right. McDonald was trying to give a strong hip and S no doubt but we know that when you do that making the initial contact to the head is just not on. He did.

He's not known as a dog and Parker did not have his head over the ball but moving toward the movement of the ball. So McDonald did the crime and if he puts his hand up to do the time we'll move on.

Pathetic effort from McDonald, and it was applauded by the ****wit commentators because it was GWS showing they won't be intimidated.

Enjoy your holiday, James.

A difference of a couple of inches would have turned this into an incident that wasn't even cited.

I know he took out one of your blokes, but 'pathetic'? Get a grip.

Gutless is the word and if he had taken out one of your young up and comers you would be screaming blue murder. There was nothing courageous or skillful in that bump. You are all hypocritical sitting back slapping yourselves on the back, saying oh thats great, thats what is needed, show the young guys how to do it, etc etc. What rubbish if one of the senior Swans players did that to a new young player from GWS it would be calls for life ban. You can beats your chests and cry testosterone all you like, it was a cowardly act and a new young player is out for some time. About time you all realised the game is about skill not hitting players who have their eyes on the ball. If you think its terrific then I suggest you get on the GWS bandwagon and follow Sheedy and become an acolyte with no brains.

I guess the wind fractured Parker's jaw then?
That doesn't mean it was a "cheap high shot".

That statement is relating to intent, not outcome.

Are you saying McDonald meant to get him in the jaw?

McDonald tried to assert himself, got it wrong, injured opponent to extent that he'll be out for 3 weeks, got suspended. Seems about right to me.

It doesn't matter who delivered the bump or who got hit. The only thing that that changes is the level of outrage on BF.

Now imagine if one Campbell Brown delivered that bump and got 2 weeks. BF would have went into meltdown.

Supposedly the Swans were asked to submit a Doctors report which may have affected the ruling.

Can we get this shit sorted out early in the season? The Doctors are required to submit a medical report to the club every time a person is injured on the field or at training. It's basic Occupational Health and Safety.

The clubs don't tell their doctors "hey, Soandso knocked out one of our guys, write a medical report, and we'll send it to the Tribunal and see if it makes it looks worse than it is."

And as for the report affecting the ruling ... of course it did. Have you watched any football over the past couple of seasons. the Tribunal always takes the severity of the injury into account.

Negligent intent is the right call. It wasn't a dog act, it was just an illegal bump which got the appropriate penalty.

+1

McDonald will miss 2 matches because of the bump and Parker will miss 2-3 because of the effects of the bump ... Seems fair to me.

I like your post but funnily enough, Parkers scan results were released minutes after the tribunal decision. He was never gonna get more than a slap on the wrist. Either Sydney were protecting McDonald or the AFL had a say in it.... what you think? yeah coincidence I spose.

If you're saying the web article about the tribunal decision was just before the web article about Parker's scans, you'd be correct. But the doctors would have submitted their reports from the match early on Monday, and I'm sure (since the AFL website reported about the scans at about the same time as the report about the tribunal) the AFL tribunal would have had access to the scan results before the communications department posted about it on the website.

I think you're seeing conspiracy and coincidence where there is neither. All I'm seeing is standard process.

He didnt go to the hospital until monday and the scan results in the arvo

And what's your point? Do you think the AFL website writers had access to the medical reports before they were sent to the AFL admin/tribunal?

You said that the tribunal took into account the severity of th injury but they couldnt possibly have known that he had a fractured jaw.

Explain how "they couldn't possibly have known".

Do you think the medical scanners sent their report directly to the AFL communications department? Or is it likely that being a professional sportsman, Parker was scanned early Monday, results back pretty quickly to the Swans, ... then to the AFL (including the tribunal), ... and later in the day, it gets written into a webpage?

No, that couldn't possibly have happened.

wow

A lot of noise made over this one when in fact the MRP have got it right. I have no problem with the bump if he didn’t collect him first up high. He did, McDonald manned up, said he was intending to lay a hard bump but not to collect him in the head but the responsibility was his to ensure he didn’t.

The MRP got it right and Mcdonald took his punishment and wore it. He’s not a dog, nor a totally innocent party. He’s just a footballer who’s got a suspension….
