The old favourite The Anzac Day Game.

The power is now in your hands as a poster on Bigfooty.

To non Collingwood or Essendon supporters , if you could allocate who would play in the MCG Anzac Day match in 2011 , which 2 teams would you have play in it.

Or you may choose to keep either Collingwood or Essendon to play another opponent instead.

Your reason for chosing the 2 teams.

And would you attend the match.

Interested to find out the thoughts of Bigfooty posters.

Collingwood and Essendon can have it, if they want. I'd rather Geelong not be involved in a potential mid-week game during the season. I think the whole groundswell of GF replay talk is a bit misguided, to be honest. Despite Essendon having one of their worst ever periods in recent times and a reputation for being more fickle than Collingwood and Richmond fans (for example), they're still a good bet to get as big a crowd along to play Collingwood on Anzac Day as anyone. And we know Collingwood supporters will turn up, no matter how the club is going. Now, the issue with having a GF replay would be: how would that have played out between 2004-06? Probably with about 45,000 there for Anzac Day. If it has to be at the MCG, it needs to involve two Victorian teams.

Highest 2 ranked Vic teams from the previous year. Pies V Saints in 2011.

Won't be worth watching next year it is nearly 1st V last. I hate how the media pump it up with crap throw away lines like "it does not matter where these 2 teams are on the ladder".

I believe essendon and collingwood have earnt the right to run the anzac day shenanigans, just by the efforts they've gone to to keep the buzz going about it. It shouldnt matter if they are winning or losing. Ditto goes for melbourne and the queens birthday (and before north supporters say anything, yes they were robbed over friday nights).

If your going to do a grand final replay "tradition", Id save it for a new tradition with new marketing, like Good Friday if the AFL ever allows it. The venue should be the opposite of whoever played the Grand Final at home, unless its two Victorian sides.

But if they took ANZAC off the pies and bombers, then the hawks, saints and cats, kangas and bulldogs should also forgo their annual marque fixtures too...oh wait

I know, all teams that have done an exceptional job building an event up... oh wait

Collingwood and Essendon.

I'm a traditionalist.

I think if it is a lock for two teams then it should be the biggest rivalry in Vic - Collingwood V Carlton - you can not get any more traditional than that.

Just because you started something does not give you a permanent hold on it - if that was the case the Roos would play 22 games on Friday night!

Seriously F&%^K me drunk.. here we go again.. the same bloody argument..

Hows this for opposition fans...GET YOUR CLUB TO PULL ITS FINGER OUT AND CREATE A MARQUEE GAME OF THEIR OWN.. you know.. like oh KEVIN SHEEDY did perhaps?.. Why would you want to take something that someone else has created? Be inventive and create/market your own game.. scavengers.

Obviously the two highest placed Victorian clubs from the year prior is the fairest option.

No.. it should obviously be Essendon and Collingwood because we obviously came up with the idea and obviously marketed it very well.

Stop trying to lay claim to what is not even close to being yours or anyone elses.

Sure we created/market Friday night football which your team now requests to be a part of. You keep Anzac day but lose all Friday night games. All good?

GF replay. And if it happens to be two non-vic teams thats fine, just play in interstate.

I'm fine with that, but I'm guessing the MCG has an agreement in place similar to the grand final that an Anzac Day match must be played there. Of course, that doesn't stop another game being played at AAMI, Paterson's, SCG or the Gabba, as well. If I supported a Western Australian team and they were forced to play a home game against Sydney on a Tuesday in Melbourne for Anzac Day, well...I wouldn't be happy.

Unlike the Collingwood and Essendon Anzac Day clash, the Roos don't hold the attraction to maintain an event; hence the reason they don't have a lock on Friday nights.

Loll I love the technicality. Fact is, Friday night footy is NOT a marquee game, its an occasion on which you PLAY the game.

Even so, maybe if North were able to satisfy Friday night ratings, youd have more claim to that comment (albeit, youd still be clutching at straws). Fact is, youre crowd & tv numbers are pathetic.

Kevin Sheedy created the day. He took the idea to Malthouse and Malthouse loved it. Together they pioneered the idea. Whats wrong (as other posters have pointed out) with creating DIFFERENT marquee games? Again as one has already pointed out, if you want a GF Replay Marquee game, why not create a different calender date? I dont see why you have to be Johnny Come late and try lay claim to something thats clearly not yours..

why would other teams play it? are we gonna make a fuss out of Richmond and Essendon playing dreamtime? the Dons and Pies built it up just let them have it. I don't personally care that much do you? as others have said create your own marquee match.
