Lol.

What lesson?

I didn't even bother reading whatever one eyed, poor and wee coloured comeback you spent 24 hours drafting.

Seriously funny.
Sure you didn’t. 😂

7th to 11th.. with some luck and no serious injuries we could surprise.
But seriously, who is going to drop out of the 8? and if a team or two does you have the likes of Collingwood, St Kilda, melb and Gold Coast that have much better lists than the crows. its going to take a season out of the box to play finals.

Adelaide definitely an interesting team. I've seen quite a few crows supporters on here say they should have been pushing for finals this year. I'm not sure if it is just a stick to clip Nicks with or whether it is a genuine expectation. If everything goes right it is not impossible to make the eight, I expect they improve but may fall short.
We had an upward trajectory last year and some kpis were very strong, hence the optimism. What we keep forgetting is that the improvement of our young players in recent times has been very non linear and so expectations don't meet reality (we expect linear upwards improvement for all of them).

Add to that our coach, for some unknown reason, changed up or gameplan at the start of the year and we went backwards at a rate. I don't have Lot of confidence in him.

If we can deviate from the norm to improve our development and make good coaching calls, we should be pushing for top 8 as we do have a decent core of young players (still some holes). We've shown over the last two years that we can either push top 8 teams or beat them.

You can make a reasonable argument that any of the top 8 could drop out

True. i think the only thing that could derail Hawthorn is arrogance and the terror twins, Ginnivan and Watson lol
other than that, you guys should challenge fort the top 4?
Its make or break for the Crows. if they have a mirror image season to 2024 then heads will roll.

For us, an awful lot of it is likely to come down to injuries, again. This upcoming season in particular, as we’ve lost/delisted a quarter of our list now, which means we’re likely to have less experienced depth than we’ve had in recent years. We’re going to have an awful lot of kids on the list.

So if we get a lot of injuries again (as we have the last 4 seasons- regularly missing up to 8-10 of our best 23 each season) we’re probably going to struggle, as we likely won’t have the experienced depth to cover them.

If on the other hand we finally have a decent run with injuries, we’ll definitely be aiming for finals.

Were top 6 for all bar one week of the 2023 H&A season (despite said injuries) and then this year we won 5 of our last 6 (only loss to Brisbane) and 8 of our last 12, once we were finally able to get a competitive midfield out on the park. We also started scoring consistently well during that period, which augurs well for us going forward.

So despite lots of injuries, we’ve been a top 6 side for 3/4 of the two years Lyon has been back, and with a good injury run, would be hoping to be that again in 2025. If we get hit hard by injuries again, we’ll probably be bottom 6, like we were for the first half of this year.

I could be totally wrong but I thought St Kilda had a decent run with injury this year. Not great but not terrible. Sufficient enough to make the 8.

There was a mid season game against Melbourne when I remember looking at St Kilda's injury list and you basically had everyone available. Even Crouch was playing VFL which was a reflection on St Kilda's health at the time.

You never heard any talk about it in the media, but just like 2023, we had a whole lot of guys go down with injury in the last month or so leading into the season, and pretty much exactly the same as last year, we were missing 8 of our expected best 23 to start the season.

So we rocked up to Geelong missing 8 of our best team (while they were only missing 2 or 3 at most) and then lost Crouch half way through that game, and yet we were within 2 points inside the last minute. In Geelong.

Then the following week we had a terrific win over Collingwood at the MCG- despite missing so many- only to then lose Henry and Wood for multiple weeks each from that game as well.

So for most of the first 10 rounds or so we were a LONG way from full strength, and then once we did have guys coming off the injury list, they generally had to spend 2-3 weeks at Sandy, to get fit enough to play our game style.

Our midfield was the major issue though. Crouch (18 Brownlow votes last year) played half a game, Gresham (who spent plenty of time there in ‘23) was gone, and Clark (full time mid the last two years) and Dow were both unavailable for senior selection for the first 9/10 weeks. While Jones was struggling to get going.

So our midfield was absolutely decimated and miles off AFL standard for the first 10 weeks, on top of other injuries elsewhere. During which time we won 3, and lost 5 by 10 points or less. And 5 of our first 9 games were interstate or in Geelong. Our first legitimate home-ground-advantage game for the year was in… round 10!

To play a decent brand of footy, few(er) injuries, young players developing (some reaching a good level of maturity), and new draftees playing games and looking good.

About 4 -6 wins. So bottom 3. Likely bottom 1.
