McGuane bump on Farren Ray

What should of happened and what will happen are two totally different things.

There is no way he should've got off that hit on Selwood. Selwood's head was over the ball and Farren Ray took the easy option to put the side of his body into his head. IMO McGuane should get off on the technicality Ray shouldn't have actually been playing and thus the hit never happened.

Ray did exactly what he'd been taught, get low and protect yourself. if Selwood wants to dive head first at contact, that's his problem.

If Ray didn't protect himself, it could have been really really ugly.

The ump was funny there. "They just ran into each other"

Errr no. The siren had well and truly gone and Goddard came in and laid a solid bump. By no means a big hit, but a stupid one and the umps once again seem to see things completely differently to what is actually happening.

There was nothing in the McGuane bump.

There was no injury from either player. Surely that has to be the primary consideration.

He got his feet off the ground but half off footy is played off the ground - no injury, no suspension.

but the way the game is played these days he will probably get 8 weeks or something. It is a shame as I thought he played a great game last night.

Just because Ray didnt go down for the count shouldnt be a factor but McGuane can probably thank him for not dramatising it like others do.

Ray's rep as a bit soft has gone out the door the last 2 weeks. Stuck his head over it just as "courageously" as Selwood last week but came off the better..then bouncing up this week.

At the dogs i always thought he'd be snapped in half one day.

i didnt even notice the hit when watching it the first time. Saw ray on the ground and thought something must be up. The replays do not do mcguane any favors. That was a pretty big hit and the fact he jumped will give him an extra week or 2. (4 weeks or 3 with a guilty plea is my prediction.)

crude but high. nothing in the rules about leaving the ground either. player ok to take the kick, not concused so maybe 1-2wks depending on the carryover points.
