McGuire: Carrara away game push

AFL will never say yes.

Collingwood figure heavily in the AFL's guarantees to the contract with MCC/TD and in generating ratings. Someone like St Kilda, Bulldogs or Melbourne will be bribed to play games up there.

We are talking about a small stadium, any club should be able to get the 10k+ that they are going to squeeze into that tiny stadium.

I understand that, but this proposal stinks of arrogance and a determination to get an unfair advantage in the competition. It simply cannot go ahead.

What if it creates a win win win situation... such as dollars for teams selling games there?

This just a little deflection by Ed. We have enough trouble with the staffers at Lexu$ stuffing around our non Melbourne based supporters. The irony is our Queensland group has decided to no longer be an officially affiliated group but will be independant from the club. Maybe Ed should repair the damage his staff have down. Lets not mention how some Pies members havent got their seasons tickets yet. Deflect away Edwardo!

Tess,

I doubt this is a deflection at all. This is in the scheme of things this is of much greater importance than a few late memberships, and a few unhappy supporters in Qld. If this goes ahead this would be huge. Have some perspective. :thumbsu:

If this goes ahead knowing Collingwood they would probably win over the GC and when the new team came in no one would support them because they would already barrack for Collingwood.

Ah yes, but if you cant get the basics right, why are you trying to do things which are way beyond the basics?

Lets sort out the little problems before taking on much bigger issues. Not having your membership ticket by now is a biggy. If it was you, you'd be screaming blue murder.

Most footy punters are aware McGuire is doing it for the benefit of his own club. Unlike the AFL, they're not that stupid. What they don't like is the whole 'good for football' schtick that Edward trots out every time he's doing it.

But it is good for football and thats why it is a possibility.

Even the most one eyed Collingwood dimwit could see that this advantages no one but Collingwood. Whether these dimwits who always carp on about the unfair advantages Brisbane and Sydney got, will take the opposing view and suggest it is okay for Collingwood to be greatly advantaged (more than usual), well I guess that is up to them.

Just another chance for Maguire to spruik that they are the greatest, the most famous, the most clout, the most marketable blah, blah, blah to anyone who'll listen. The fat man likes to make noise.

bwahahahahahahahaha

What Eddie is suggesting is a win for Collingwood, a win for the Gold Caost and AFL expansion and a possible win for the weaker teams that sell games there.

MCG is one thing. Ratings are another. Are you trying to tell me that you think a Collingwood away game at the Gold Coast would rate worse than one in Melbourne? TV stations would love to have more away games for the more popular teams. This is just one of the problems with an uneven draw, yes the AFL & certain teams make more gameday money. On the other hand TV money might be bigger if certain teams had to play away more. Foxtel especially would pay big $$$ to have teams like Collingwood etc on pay tv more often.

It's amazing how Eddie can justify competitive compromises when they advantage Collingwood as necessary "for the good of the game", but when they advantage others they "compromise the integrity of the game".

Brisbane officials must piss themselves when they hear Eddie spew this crap.

Well the pies actually play well intertsate & win most games away anyway!

Besides how dare a president try & get the best for his club!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Wish my club had thought of the idea!

Eddie spends 95% of his time talking to Collingwood supporters and the AFL administration.

So you can't blame the bloke for automatically thinking people are stupid.

Most interstate teams don't need extra dollars though, they already tend to earn a mint through their home games

I rate Eddie but to be honest he acted like a tool then.

Agreed. Trying to have a personal attack at Leach just made Eddie sounds like spoilt child trying to bully his way to what he wants. While I agree with everyone who says Eddie is just looking out for whats best for Collingwood (as he should) I just can't understand how he can try to pass off this proposal as anything but an attempt to get a financial & on field advantage over every other club. Saying its for the benefit of the competition & that all clubs will need to make sacrifices & in the same sentence stating Collingwood would not give up any of their home games to make it work is hypocrisy at its finest. Before hearing Ed on SEN I thought this was just another sound bite that he had made off the cuff without seriously expecting it to amount to anything but he was really cut up that Leach was criticising the proposal & did himself no favours with his demeanour.

But associations like the WAFC (which WCE and dockers help fund) actually like the money they get. Strangely enough they are more likely to invest money in WA football than the pies, who are happy to take WA players.

So investment in lower levels of football is reduced, pies get another competitive advantage, all for the good of the game ;)

(Same argument for SA too)

Bitch fight on SEN the last 5 minutes between Francis Leach and Eddie.

Eddie sounded like a bigger w***er than usual in that interview.Francis should've just hung up on the arrogant prat.

BTW,where was Ox during that interview ?
He went all Humphrey B Archer when Eddie was on.

Hows about we just get Brisbane to play all their away games at Carrara? A win for the GC, a win for AFL expansion and a possible win for the weaker teams that sell games there, and a win for Eddie because all he wants is for those things to happen.

You ever think that maybe Brisbane might be the arch rival to the gold coast team?????

Eddie is no doubt trying to get a great deal for his club, but isnt that what a club president is meant to do???:eek:

Stop being whinging kids!!! bawh bawh bawh!!! Eddie is arrogant, collingwood is this..la la la la

Maybe my president & others should look at how Eddie goes about it.. Clearly the best president going around!!!
