Mckernan to come home?

Remove this Banner Ad

Many have speculated and it is just that, but the Kouta article today on his pay had some interesting footnotes that Mckernan will take a pay cut and come back to North i wonder who for though. Denis would take anyone i believe. Other notes were Carlton had allegedly offered Luke Power $500,000 to come back for 3 years and Harvey $600,000.
It was written by C.Wilson so i dont know how much credibility was within the article.

WOuld hope not. Bringing Corey back would be against everything Laidley has worked for, youth development. And it would kill hamishes fast deverlopment.

Our ruck division was probably the biggest disappointment of 2003. It must be improved but the Hale/Porter ruck combination for 2004 is a real worry. Hale shows lots of promise and could be a real champion, but he needs a couple more years to bulk up and mature before he'll be up to a full season of ruck duties. I'd hate to see him fail because we expected too much of him too soon. Porter is a hack, he tries hard but his form thru 2003 was pis$ poor. With Spider now retired we desperately need another big man who can be competitive at the elite level.

If, Corey can recapture some form and it seems he does that best as far away from Pagan as possible.... then he gives us an extra option up forward and in the ruck and another experienced leader. I'd welcome him back so long as we don't give up too much for him and as reported he is prepared to take a pay cut. Preferably in a direct swap for Sav who I rekon Pagan would jump at... and I don't think there's room in the side for Sav and Corey.

But I for one would love to see the BIG FELLA come home and finish his career with North. After what happened with Carey it would be nice to welcome Corey back.....

Bring him on!!

The more I think about it, the more I reckon that Corza coming home could be a good idea.Sure, we want to encourage the youth, but McIntosh hasn't played a game yet, so he's hardly going to hold down a KP in his first season.

If Sav goes down (not unlikely) can Drew and Hamish be expected to hold down the forward line by themselves? I think we're two years off this happening.

Similarly, Hale is really raw. He has earned the chance to take 2nd ruck, but what if he or Porter get injured. We're looking very thin...

Corey would provide valuable back up as a forward or ruckman for a year or two in the twilight of his career.

bring corza back for all the above reasons:

he's a leader
on form (ie that is without pagan and his crappy gameplan) he's very very good and a proven 50+ goal kicker in a **** team

he's getting old and his knees are a bit dodgy, but he's a much better option than Rocca
He doubles as a good ruckman too
he's experienced and will help our youngsters progress unhindered. If anything Hamish will realise he has to be at the absolute peak of his game, all the time if he's to get a look in at the 1st team. Which is good for work ethic. rather than just handing it to him

I can't be objective. I loved watching him at North, really admired how he stood up in his first year at Carlton when they were so ordinary, and think it's pretty sad to have him back miserable and not performing under Pagan again. My heart says yes, I'd love to see him back in blue and white and to see what he could do under Laidley - and my head (under the influence) says yes, if we don't have to sacrifice any better prospects for the future. As most people have said, our young forwards and rucks will get better, but will probably be helped by having a bit of experience around for a year or two.

I think most of it will depend on Laidley's opinion of McKernan from his time at North.

If he thinks that he can offer something in terms of developing say Hale or McIntosh then he might consider it, especially if he comes cheap.

I just hope we don't spend the next 10 years watching Hale and Monster jumping early at ruck contests!

Would getting McKernan spell the end of Roccas career? I think Corey could be a good full forward with a bit of confidence

Although, you could look at it from the other perspective...Laidley may choose to use Corey in the ruck which may restrict Porters career.......

As long as Hale and Hamish are still fast-tracked Im happy

If it was anyone else (for example - Matthew Allen) I would think it was a really bad idea.

But Corey is like Family and it would be great from a Morale point of view I think

I would hurt the development of Hale and McIntosh though which is definately a negative

Heath Black is a worry, though. Lots of talent but a few issues...
Does he have a bit of mongrel in his play or is he just a mongrel? We could use someone with a bit of attitude. Haven`t seen enough of him to have an opinion though.

I think he is just a mongrel

played really well at Freo - has played like crap at the Saints

I'd like McKernan back for sentimental reasons, but we already have Rocca up forward and we want to give McIntosh and Hale a good taste of senior footy.

As for Heath Black, people forget how good he was at Freo. I'm not sure why he's done so badly at St.Kilda - coaching can't be the issue as he never had any great coaches at Freo either. He might do well under the guidiance of Laidley. If he comes cheaply, I wouldn't mind seeing him at Arden Street.

•Carlton and its 2002 club champion Corey McKernan were considering a parting that could lead to McKernan taking a pay cut to return to the Kangaroos--The Age 10/09/03

Just for the people out there who hasnt seen it!

Looks like a done deal to me.Mckernan would be great support for Hale and Mcintosh,i feel this will be the end of Porter. He would need to play some of the best games he has ever played at the start of the year, and he will get the chance to prove himself. He will be gone by say 3-4 games into the year, with Mckernan coming off the bench to play in the ruck or forward, this will give Mcintosh(who will play 5-10 games next year just to gain experience) and Hale support.

We will in turn give up D.Smith and one of S.Motlop(although i want him to stay),S.Clayton or B.Robbins in exchange imo.

Regarding Black i think he would compliment our on ball division. He will work hard for us under Laids instead of that D*!khead Thomas,if he doesnt well he wont last long and i think will be worth the punt.He also is best mates with Sinclair,so it could be good!

Go Roos

Would Hale be prepared to give up No 31?
We could give number 5 to Hale and give Mckernan his old number back...But as we know Laidley's fav saying is there's no romance in footy...

D.Smith and another player is way too much to give up for McKernan. We're in effect handing over one ten year player and another who would be good for about five in exchange for someone who might be good for about three.

Correct!!!....how old is Corey? 29?

I reckon Teaguey on his own would just about cover Corey now.

I all for McKernan... He loved the club and is the type of player that will want repay the club for its faith in the late 90's...

Most of you would know/remember he was one of the hardest workers at training... He just couldn't preform to his best under deni$e...

Looking back at some of the players at the start of the season and how they were out of confidence pagan and they have turned it around under dean (rawlings, harris, etc...)...

Shows that dean has something that may bring McKernan back to his best form...
