Injury Medhurst in doubt for Freo clash

I was flicking through "Side by Side" last night and I think they all played together against Adelaide late last year and possible another game (Freo?).

I forgot we had tried them all together before.
They all played against Richmond when we won by about 100 points. But you know.....Richmond. Cloke and Anthony got a fair few, Dawes goaless.

Against Adelaide they all got at least two each.

They all played in our victory over Carlton last year as well. They all got a goal each.

And yeh, in our thumping of Freo as well.

So they've got a decent record playing together, but yeh, obviously a pretty small sample, with only one decent team in it.

This may be true. I'd agree with leaving him in if he was one of only a couple of players with that ability, but I think with Wellingham, Ball and Pendlebury in the side, it won't be needed as much. Not enough to outweigh his other deficiencies anyway.

I agree with you personally. I think Pendlebury and Sidebottom are both particularly good in that regard. That said I can see O'Bree staying in with that being the reasoning.

Anyone know if Wellers made the trip? No mention of him in the article on the pies site.
I really hope he's back in...

According to that article, we sent 24 over to Perth, with Anthony and Barham the "new faces" from last week.

If Medhurst hadn't have been there, it would have been the opening line of the article, so I think it's pretty safe to say he was at the airport.

If that's the case, I'd say he's playing, although everyone will read more into Jack being on the plane.

No Presti or Wellers?

I'd be very surprised to see Macaffer miss if Medhurst is out through injury. He and Jack are the best options to fill Medders third tall role in the forward line.

Totally concur. Cafe kicked a heap in the fwd line in VFL in 2008 and his tackle average I'm pretty sure is top. Wellers in.

EDIT: Having read that article from the Pies site, maybe there's a prospect of my man Cracka Barham stepping in, in the absence of Wellers and in place of OBree, and Anthony for Medders. Maybe Barham gets a run with role on Hill?

Spot on after Medders foot injury last year he was terrible and rounded getting dropped in the Finals.
Medhurst didn't have a foot injury last year though, but an unrelated serious ankle ligament injury.
So they've got a decent record playing together, but yeh, obviously a pretty small sample, with only one decent team in it.
They've played in the same team ten times. Six times in 2008 for four wins and two losses. Four times last year for four wins.

On Lockyers inclusion - while very possible i'm not sure i'd like to see it. I have concerns about how Lockyer would perform defensively in the forward line and I think this is very important to our victory. Ideally i'd like to see Macaffer (tackling machine) replace Medhurst up forward and have Wellingham into the side as an extra midfielder.

Surely you cant play Presti, Brown and Reid in the same side.

Too top heavy.
Both true i was pretty tired last night so that was the first thing that came to mind.

I reckon we keep presti, save him for the big game against the cats at home, he'll shut down Mooney when he will be much fitter than what he is now.

I read in todays HUN that Mark Harvey is struggling to pick his side too match us because he wants to bring in a side hat is fast faced to compare with us so they;ll be dropping players like Kepler Bradeley (damn)

i was looking through our playing list and the players that popped up too mind was, Lockyer, Anthony, Mccarthy and Barham.

Wellingham SHOULD play.. but if he isnt 100% dont risk him. we got the depth.

Anthony would be an obvious choice up forward..

dont know much abut Mccarthy but i wouldnt mind seeing Barham on the wing for us giving that extra pace

I really, really want Jack back but not at the expense of Medders. Hopefully he pulls up but we have a handy replacement if he doesn't.

Is Wellingham back this week or not?

Would be suprised if wellers played...Micks rotations will mean he sits out two i think, not much use in bringing obree back for one game then booting him out, that will shoot his confidence especially after a good game last week!...Wellers to rest again or just play vfl and dominate is my pick!:thumbsu:

if the rain persists then meddas for barham could be the way to go, although i would love to see tarrant line up against anthony at some stage, no love lost!

and bringing in Jack we would lose a lot of forward pressure and tackles.

This staggers me. Have we forgotten what the purpose of the forward line is? Their purpose is to kick goals! Yes, Medhurst applies more pressure than Jack can, but if Jack kicks 4 then who cares? Other players need to step up to fill the void in regards to pressure.

Hell, Sidebottom did a good job of pressure in the forward line last week, and I'm sure none of us expected that.

The Pies won’t determine the make-up of their 22 until after training on Thursday, with a couple of players needing to get through that hit-out unscathed to prove their fitness.

Sharrod Wellingham is believed to be one of those after he missed last week’s win over North Melbourne with soreness.

That reads to me like he is flying over and being tested after they train, yeah?

Anyone know if, when and where they are training in Perth. I'm happy to go down and watch the fitness tests and post the results if I am able to
Subiaco tonight i think
