Yep as I thought, we now have clearly the youngest and least experienced list in the league.

I wouldn't mind running the numbers myself though. Does anyone know if the AFL has released every team's full list yet like they did last year?

Makes your job easy next year, LOTR?

"This week, we're going into the game with less experience and a lower average age". That's your template.

I really don't want to post from this account anymore but I'm yet to make a new one.

Sam Mayes has just posted on Instagram about the purchase of his first home (in Queensland). Surely this means he'll sign a new contract and still be with us in 2017
Didn't Beams buy a house in Melbourne the year he asked to be traded to us?

I'm not wanting to spread speculation about Mayes, but I don't believe him buying property is huge indicator of his intentions.

That's right, AishLion4Life. I think it was Milux who mentioned that Lambo's info was that he had just bought one, AishLion4Life.

I hope you find a good account name, AishLion4Life.

It's a good looking QUEENSLANDER!!

I find this a peculiar article for the Lions' site. At a time when we're asking for faith, belief and optimism, they publish a story that basically highlights that next season we'll be ranked last in age and experience.
I realise it's fact, but is there a need to point it out on their own site? Just found it odd.
It was a pretty optimistic article, I thought. "We're on the way" is a pretty consistent theme coming out of the club. The article supports that. The club has spoken about having done the hard yards in terms of the rebuild. The article reinforces that message. Rockliff has spoken about the next premiership side already being at the club. Again, this article is along a similar line. Finally, the article talks about age being no barrier to success - that's very much a glass half full outlook.

To be honest, at a time of year when it used to be radio silence out of the club, I thought this was a really smart thing to write, putting a positive spin on an article which was largely just summer fill.

"We're young, but we have basically built our list - enjoy the ride!"

We're looking forward to development this year instead of draft picks since theoretically we have that final piece now we were crying out for. We just have to make our list perform. It's a pretty frank and positive article without bullshitting anyone.

Definitely positive "spin", which I don't mind at all, just thought all that could be done without pointing out last place rankings. For many it is a response to an article, but many wouldn't be aware of Rohan's article (I wasn't, and still haven't read it). It just seems to bring attention to something that doesn't need pointing out and could be perceived as negative.
Almost like saying "Hey, our skills are terrible (there's probably an unfavourable ranking for that) but we might be better next year" instead of saying "The guys are working hard and big improvements are in sight".

Being the youngest list in the comp isn't inherently negative because it implies your players also have to biggest potential for development.

Poor skills are always a bad thing.

On another note I'm super excited about next season, I'll try to get to every game because I genuinely see our young players taking massive steps and watching the club grow in 2016 is going to be special.

Well that fills me with a LOT of confidence!!!!!!!!!

Good to hear!

Would that be confidence because ...
- you feel that others consider you strong enough to take it
- portions of your varied posting style have been noted
- people think of you when they post
- you have a unique way of looking at things
- you are special
- you are being treated specially
- you are worthy of being tagged
- others consider bringing you into the conversation to be worthwhile **

... or were you being sarcastic (or more appropriately facetious?)

**options presented may not be the opinions of the management but reflect various ways that 'people' might think and/or take as a positive

What were we talking about again?

I'd have to guess sarcasm.

agree. the end will be fantastic (premiership) but to go along the journey with this exciting young group will have some great moments as well. I don't think I have been as up beat re our list potential in the last 10 years.

On the article on the lions website they are really taking Rockys advice to sell the message. Despite being the youngest and most inexperienced in the comp they are really pushing the good shape the list is apparently in. Like Leppa has said, despite the fact that we have gotten younger we can't really cop another year of excuses and in the bottom two. We'll see.

I saw it as a 'getting on the front foot' direct response to the Conolly piece. Almost a press release.

Us dropping to last on those tables could be perceived as bad publicity. You can treat bad PR by either ignoring it - not giving it air - or by countering it. They obviously went with plan B.

It's a pretty fluffy piece, but as POBT said, it gives them something to say to members in a very quiet time of year.

I'm sure given his contract extension he's done plenty of media but you guys might be interested in the Pearce Hanley interview with the Second Captains podcast in Ireland.

Talks of his loyalty to the Lions, his ambition to make 200 games and other stuff.

It's the most recent podcast around the 40 min mark

It's not the article per se, as it's a good response and positive piece. More just the highlighting graphic of us being ranked last, behind everyone, at the bottom. No issue with addressing that we are very young or very inexperienced. I just wouldn't have emphasised or highlighted where we're 'ranked' as 18th.
Probably overanalysing. We here all know and understand where we're at. I'm thinking of the more casual observers who visit the site, being hit in the face with a graphic showing just how behind we are and what less committed fans might think and what impact that perception might have in them deciding whether to buy a membership or attend games. Maybe they'll wait until we're not the 18th most experienced team before jumping on board.

Some articles on the site are for the rusted on supporters, like us here, but this type of article I see as being for a broader audience, for those who need reassurance and a bit of convincing that we'll be okay. Those same people may be put off by cold hard facts. We won't be put off, and to us it isn't negative I just wonder how it will be perceived by others who have very little clue about where we're at. Those same people probably don't read Connolly anyway.

I dont think the more casual fan would read into rankings of age and/or experience, even if they do come across that article. The ones that come and go do so on pure on field performance. If we are winning they will start turning up.

I think the club is trying to highlight the youth as something exciting. We have a heap of great young players and most likely the majority of our next flag team are here. The message has changed from we are young, give us time, to hey, we are young but wow, check out some of these guys.
