Very rarely are coaches afforded the luxury of reaching the end of their contract anyway, so I'm not sure what the big risk of signing him on further is.

If he's doing terribly, he'll get sacked regardless.

Agree.

Take the heat out of the media obsession with creating and running with a story. Sign Leppitsch until the end of 2018 and do it before the 2016 season starts. I'd personally like to see what Leppitsch can do with a relative injury free, stable playing list.

The other advantage is that the coaching speculation spotlight will be turned on another club.

(And as an added bonus, I look forward to reading the reaction from some Brisbane-obsessed Pies supporters) :)

The other factor is the fixture with that first 8 or so rounds. Most reasonable people would understand that we probably won't win many of those games, but if he is unsigned the media attention would be Malthouse eske. Guess re-signing is partially to avoid that
I dont know why our fixture is hardish at the start. I thought that because we came so low on the ladder, the fixture was supposed to be beneficial to us?

Yep we do seem to have copped "hard" fixtures a few years in a row, but as a Melbourne based fan I am happy to get the number of games I can actually get to up a bit

The ladder position dictates the ladder position of who we have to play multiple times. It doesn't have any bearing in to when we play teams or where.

Playing Geelong, West Coast and Port twice isn't exactly friendly. They really didn't think of improvements to help out a lower team. Probably all top 4 next year.

I dont know why we wouldnt be playing Carlton twice, melbourne twice and Sait Kilda twice instead of West Coast, Geelong and Port twice. Think we got the rough end considering some of the other teams around us.

How amazing is this - have the Lions ever done anything like this in previous years?

If this has been done in the past then it's the first I've heard of it.

Nevertheless, I take it as a sign the club is getting its act together and in a big way.

Well done to all those responsible.

All we need now, following the re-signings and the recruiting, is an announcement of some progress toward up-to-date facilities. That would truly make this 19 year member's preseason complete.

It is a great sign that the whole club appeared to be focussed on the welcome to the players and their families.

I think the next step is to get the players well and truly settled and making some social connections both inside and outside the club. I think it is why guys like Clarke seem very comfortable here quite quickly. He has his study and flying so that he gets connections to Brisbane life outside the club as well.

Hopefully Lambert will be pushing the young guys out of the club environment in time, so that they start to feel a sense of belonging that extends beyond footy.

I really think we are seeing the right mood at the club now. The new season will bring its own challenges but a happy, productive preseason helps create the culture that gets us through whatever comes our way once the season starts.

Love the Lethal Lions Family induction.

Good way to make the parents feel more comfortable, as well as the Kids.

Lambo still our best off-season acquisition by a mile!

The boys certainly seem happy enough. Going by the photos that have been posted in the pre season thread plus some video footage, I can't recall so many smiles and laughs compared to previous years. It seems we are definitely on the right track. The family induction is a wonderful initiative.

What the hell?

Leppa has done absolutely nothing to warrant a fourth year in fact he has to be considered to be very luck to be allowed the third year. Let him coach the year and see if he can actually coach. They have let him clean out the team and get in who he wanted. Okay now its time for some coherent vision on the field and to present a team that actually looks capable of winning games. That has not been the case so far in his first two years.

Personally I doubt Leppa is up to it. If I am right then that will be clear over the year and we will be committed to another year of ineptitude next year or alternatively paying him out at a time when we cannot really afford to do so. If we wait and I am wrong then we have lost nothing. He is not going anywhere and we can have confidence that he is the right guy to lead us forward.

Stability for stability's sake seems moronic to me. How about we demand a show of competence first.
To be fair, he's hardly had a fair run at it. From where I'm looking, he very quickly identified deficiencies in the playing list and has spent a couple of seasons turning it over. Looking at the current list, one could be excused for thinking he has been successful in building a better list going forward.
As others have mentioned, there are some pretty astute judges looking at what he's done, is doing and has planned. I don't think stability can be overstated at this point, and sitting on their hands to see how many games we win in another development year, offers very little benefit.

yeah absolutely agree with this comment.

And given our decision makers include Leigh Mathews and Greg Swann, I'm also inclined to trust in their judgement whichever way they choose quite frankly! If they think change is needed, I have no doubt they will make a change and quickly, but as it currently stands, Leppa appears to have their support and the vibe from the club seems enormously improved and positive from say 3 months ago

It's based off this year's ladder on which both Port and Geelong fall into the second tier. Of course there's going to be some movement but trying to get the AFL to guess who's going up and who's going down is very unlikely to be more accurate than the previous year's ladder.

Would be pretty disappointment if Leppa somehow was given a 2 or 3 year contract extension.

Although with that in mind. A 1 year contract extension wouldn't be a bad scenario for both Leppa and the Club itself. As, the heat would be off Leppa for at least a year, which is plenty of time for him to steer this club forward.

So every year there is a article about the biggest off season 'gets', ie Dangerfield for Geelong, or Suckling for Doggies etc etc... if Brisbanes doesnt say Lamberts I'll be disappointed. What they have done so far is remarkable
