Normally I'd agree with you but given the guy is of very limited talent one would have to assume that he got his original role due to some sort of inside connection. The determination to then give him the sack would have been because someone equally as powerful behind the scenes was offended/didnt like him.
In a very average field, imo Tom stands out as one of the poorest footy journos around.
That's what happens when AFL journos are employed based on who they know and not as true journalists.
The fact that he now gets another crack despite clearly not being very good showcases how insular the industry is.
The determination to sack him was more than likely to appease the masses, if it was 10/15 years ago nothing would've happened....boys club must've been livered.
The same wnkers are probably patting themselves on the back for "doing the right thing" and getting him back into the fold.

Also on the same show, they said the AFL have announced that QLD is now considered a bigger Ozzy rules state than SA!
Lol footyclassified one of the bigger AFL shows on fta but it’s still flipping putrid.

Also that’s absolutely disrespectful to SA and down right incorrect. SA has a rich history that dates back forever and they’re actually as fanatical for their two sides like the West Aussie sides. What probably sets SA fans and WA/Vic fans is that they actually give a lot more shit about their state leagues than most other

....and they hate the Vics and the VFL more than we do.

It's a headline that is deliberately misleading in its delivery - but in gross terms however, it's probably correct.

Qld has a population of 5.2M people (as of 2021).

Whilst SA only has 1.8M.

Say for example 85% of South Australians support AFL whilst in Queensland only 30% do so.

Despite having much lower proportional representation, the total number of AFL supporters in Qld, given this example, would outnumber the total from SA.

a lot of vics live in SEQ to stay warm! I have spent a lot of time in Qld but never lived there, surprisingly there has always been a bit of local footy about but it has no profile. A lot of cab drivers seem to follow Brisbane.

It is quite different to SA for sure. Sydney is similar to bne, the local footy is there but no profile - only the AFL attracts attention. East Sydney was the first club established in 1880. In the early years the code was on a footing with rugby.

the AFL is a sports entertainment business - audience size for TV is all they care about. The audience in Qld is solid and the potential for growth very high.

SA also currently produces about three times as many players on AFL lists as Queensland - about 105 - 35 from memory (I’ll check when I get home)

I'll refresh this page every 5 minutes in anticipation.

That Top 7 is terrible, can only recall 3 of them off the top of my head. I'd go:

Sheed's goal, 2018 GF
Matera's 5 goals, 1992 GF
Ablett v Salmon shoot-out, 1993
Akermanis goes mad v Pies, 2003 GF
Tom Boyd goal, 2016 GF
Kouta's last quarter, 1999 PF
Mason Cox destroys Richmond, 2018 PF (personal fave)
Assuming it's only recent history, otherwise Ablett's nine goals and Matera's five would be the favourites.

IMO a state needs to be producing more players than the big 3 footy states (that can be drafted by any team) to be ahead of any of them, but the AFL mainly cares about the potential size of the market since profits would be the main priority.

Just to reiterate - the AFL are in the sports entertainment business (by their own admission) - audience size on TV and profit is all that matters.

The AFL 10 mins later release new protocols going forward to deal with Concussion too.
Where is this. I saw this for life of me can’t find it now

So Vince McMahon will be the new AFL boss…
