First time I went to the G yesterday this year, and I forgot how much atmosphere there in the whole district. What a lot of people probably don't get to see is on big game days, Richmond is just saturated with people walking the streets, packing out pubs, and walking all around the whole Yarra Park area. Just one of the greatest sports precints in the world - even when Yarra Park is empty as you walk through at night like i did yesterday, the G & the light towers pose an impressive figure.

Nothing has ever beaten the Hawks v Geelong 08 Granny though - only time I have ever looked around the G and you couldn't see any empty seats, and the sound that 100,000 people make is unbelievable.

The atmosphere before a blockbuster Friday night game is immense. The pubs are packed and there's people everywhere. Shit, I miss that.

This is why I'm not against a night final.

There's something visually and intrinsically heart-swelling when you're at the 'G at night, 80,000 people around you, to watch two good sides play good footy. I can't imagine how amazing that buzz would be.

Did the MCG tour a few weeks ago like a good tourist in Melbourne. Wow it is a beautiful ground. I have been to a few games there before but to get down on ground level and in the MCC areas to look around was awesome.

Just wondering how 60,000 people at the new stadium in Burswood is going to go, for mine a few beers at a pub, before, after and sometimes even during the game is for me part of the deal.

There is no Richmond pubs, eateries, cafes close, like the MCG, there is no Subi or Vic hotels such as or the cafes eateries etc.

Seems to me that it is going to be quite sterile.

My bet is people will miss Subi about 12 months into the new stadium.

Yeah, I do get it, but it just wasn't feasible to have that culture. I'm sure it'll slowly cultivate itself, and it is a bit of a negative, but it was always going to happen unless you upgraded Subiaco Oval – which is fraught with issues, most of them Subiaco Council's.

I'd rather a nice, spacious, new footy stadium than the 20-years-too-old Subi. It's not a massive negative in the scheme of things, and just one of the inevitable down sides. Subiaco Oval doesn't have much, but it does have a few things.

Though I will miss chicken sandwiches at the same Subiaco cafe with my dad. Bit of a shame I won't be able to pass that ritual down to my kids, but hey.

First I've heard of this! Any stories on it? Pics?

Yer any stories on there on this?

This is the only downfall of the current ground...the scoreboards are utter crap..miles too small for the size of the venue...get rid of the advertising around them and make the screen the full size and they might be just ok.

I do believe the new Adelaide Oval will have bigger replay screens than the MCG.
(Plus AO's scoreboard is much better :p )

Took my girlfriend a long a couple of weeks ago and I thought the tour and museum was fantastic. I could've locked myself in the MCC library for days.

Two huge new video screens will be installed at the MCG in time for the 2013 Boxing Day Ashes Test match. The new screens will be the largest of any Australian stadium, measuring 25 metres wide and 13 metres high.
It has been a two year process, with MCG management visiting some of the world’s best and newest stadia in an effort to improve the fan experience at Australia’s largest stadium.
The new vision boards will be more than double the size of the existing screens, part of a continuous upgrade designed to maintain the MCG at the forefront of the stadium experience.

To any match. So unless I am an MCC or an AFL member I can not get seats on level 2/3 centre wing?

Thanks for replying mate :)

This is the seating map for the finals:

In the public your best best is N49.

I wanna ask a question here guys, I got my tickets for myself and the old man for the EF Richmond vs Carlton. Public seating, Bay M56 Row E..

It said's it's restrictive view, it could be the camera for score review.. as anyone sat near that spot and knows why it is restrictive viewing?

In that forward pocket there's a camera just behind the fence that's always there
