Going to the footy tonight with a couple of mates who are sitting near gate 5 in the great southern stand. As I am an MCC member and want to save myself some money, is it possible to walk from MCC around the ground to gate 5? Or do i need a ticket to do so?

I beleive you can just enter the ground into mcc gate as normal and just walk around from inside the ground to gate 5

What bay is the umpires tunnel in the GSS? I'm sitting on the ground level on Friday in the AFL members and will not pass down the opportunity to give them a roasting if I'm close enough!

Maybe ask a Demons supporter. They know where the players race is...

Just out of curiosity, what determines which side of the MCG the home and away teams cheer squad sit? Last year i went to the MCG to watch Hawthorn v Brisbane and the Hawthorn cheer squad was on the punt road end of the G. When i went the the Hawks/Adelaide prelim, they were at the ponsford stand end (or city end either one). Last night i noticed them at the Ponsford stand end again, I am just curious what determines this..?

What I know is that Collingwood are always at the Ponsford end and Richmond are always at the Richmond end. Not too sure on the others.

I have a standing room ticket for bay M25 for the game on Saturday, but I've never been in standing room before.

Just wondering how early you need to get there to get a decent spot (somewhere near the front).

Also, is it just the area behind the fence to the seats where you stand?

They have tiered standing bays, each step/tier being about 3 ppl deep.
Sorry, don't know how early you'd need to get there, but front row of any of the steps is prtty decent. Provided you're not particularily short.

At the 2010 Replay I stood and chatted to a gate attendant on centre wing. Perfect view, just had to lean a bit to see one pocket, and I got there dead last, literally ran to that spot after the siren. You should have no issues

In general, the home team is at the Punt Rd end, but I believe that teams can request a specific end if they want. Collingwood, for example, always have the City end, even at away games. Not sure exactly why the Hawks have had the City end for the two prelims, during the year I think they always have the Punt Rd end for home games and did so for the GF last year as well.

Usually there's a small rush of people when gates open to stake out the best spots and then dribs and drabs after that. If you want to be right at the front then I'd try to get there as early as possible. IIRC the standing room at m25 is one of the three step/level areas. Yep, its the area behind the fence to the seats.

For some reason, for finals, the 'home' team switches to the City end of the ground. Not sure why they do it.
