A little premature you say?

Well, if you can't get up and win for a guy who gave his heart and soul to the club, in Round 1, at home, against one of the bottom teams from last season.....when are you going to get up and win?

Absolutely pathetic from the Dees....

I think Brisbane is better than people think and will surprise a few this year. After last years disappointment.

Melbourne showed no heart today and if not today, when will they show some. Pathetic effort.

Brisbane are an improved team and playing a good brand of football but he lack of Melbourne players running hard to the contest was pathetic. Dreadful start to the year dreadful effort in the contest just poor allround by Melbourne.

Melbourne

Seriously, what's going on with this club?

They play Brisbane. Now, Brisbane aren't great. Many predicted the to finish bottom six this year. And they had their best forward out. Melbourne surely would be on a high after the inspiring Jim Stynes funeral.

So they come into a match favourites, after having most of their team fit.... and they end up kicking 11 goals in 120 minutes of football in brilliant sunshine, get beaten by 41 points, with the lions having 34 scoring shots to 23.

Just what's going on with this club? I think many have accepted that Richmond were pretty disappointing on Thursday night getting done by 44 points.

I just wonder what's going on with this club. Trengove is good but he needs assistance. Watts gets a fair bit of the ball but doesn't kick enough goals. Players like Green and Davey seem to be out of form/past their peak. Players like McDonald, Bartram and Bate don't inspire much, confidence or otherwise. If someone like Moloney has a poor game, then the midfield really collapses.

I think round one proves how difficult it is to transform a struggling club into a winning one. The question remains when Melbourne will become one.

Is it possible the Stynes death had the reverse effect. People assume its a great motivating factor - it could drain the club too.

Sad result

This! I remember playing after my mum died of cancer. All week I was thinking how I was going to go out and dominate and win it for her but it had the opposite affect. I ran around like a headless chook and the whole game was a blur.

It affects everybody differently. Some people would draw inspiration from it where as others would really struggle to function at an acceptable level.

This is just our 1st year in another 5 year plan, before todays game i had us finishing 14th i might have been too kind going to be another long year.

They are badly missing Jurrah

He can chop up his opponents

They are missing him, but he plays the same as the rest of them. They rely far too heavily on a fast break touch football style match to unfold. Brisbane refused to give them that and worked a lot harder for the game. I reckon the off season issues and recent sad events have hurt them more than what we think.

We have continually gone for second best when looking for a Coach, could have had Sheedy went for Bailey a disaster, should have moved heaven and Earth to get Malthouse,Williams or even Eade this time and we go unproven again with Neeld'I know its only early but I see very little difference this year.!!!!

Agree.

Melbourne have serious worries. Their leaders don't stand up at all, infact they're the ones holding them back - Davey, Green, etc. The kids that Melbourne fans have talked over the last couple of yearsare seriously overrated. Their big recruit was recruited to the wrong position. Clark is a quality ruckman but a below average forward. Wont give them a lot. Also despite getting some okay stats Watts still has little to no influence on the contest.

Alot of overeaction, personally i think that was a fantastic effort by melbourne to get within 10 goals of an AFL team. If you look at their list pound for pound you can see why they will struggle to win a game this year.

A souless club that represent the colour beige.

Demons will rebound....eventually. Let's remember this is a side in massive rebuild mode, with two captains barely out of nappies. It's going to be a long, slow haul for Neeld.
