Melbourne should of taken Naitanui....*MB Thread*

Poor Melbourne flogs. :(

Doing everything they can to put down Naitanui.. Naitanui is an athelete not a footballer.. Naitanui can't kick.. Naitanui has funny hair.. Naitanui kills deer in the wild and instantly eats his kill.. all apparent reasons why he is a hack and will be nothing.

Yet.. Carlton, despite the risk that he would want to come home after a few years, would have drafted him ahead of Kreuzner if he was available.

Yet.. in his first game while not being outstanding he showed passages of elite football skills as a first gamer.. like the one handed pick up and goal assist to Priddis and the contested mark over 3 Richmond players.

Yet.. Cox when he came to the Eagles was a worse kick, worse athelete and in general worse all around. Big Coxy seems to be doing just fine as a footballer these days.

I can bet that if Watts came out and played very well in his first few games then Melbourne fans wouldnt feel the need to try and bag the shit out of Naitanui. However since he has only been ok and comparisons have started the poor little Melbourne babies need a little security blanket to feel better.

Notice that most WCE fans say that they think Watts will be a very good player. They don't feel the need to troll Watts to pump up Naitanui. Unfortunately Melbourne fans feel the need to do the reverse.

Naitanui will at worse be a very good tap ruckman.. at best he will be a superstar of the game like the game has never seen.

Good luck to Naitanui.

I think you will find the people who dont have high hopes for him ar ejust being reslistic.

His skills are atrocious. Great leap, yeah. Decent mark.

But you do need to be at least an average kick at AFL level, and he is an atrocious kick.

Now compare that to Jack Watts in his 2nd game, whose kicking action is flawless. Two goals from two set shots, and his field kicking is perfect also.

Jack Watts

Best Case Scenario - Greatest player in the history of VFL/AFL

Worse Case Scenario - Greatest player of the modern era

Nicholas Naitanui

Best Case Scenario - A Jeff White type ruckman that could snag 1 or 2 AA guernseys

Worst Case Scenario - Delisted at the end of first contract

At best a champion FF, at worst a useful HFF.

Yeah, nah.

You're exhibit A when it comes to insecure Melbourne flogs.

Most people in football including fans, media, football personnel, etc are excited about Naitanui's potential.

A few games with bad kicking and all of a sudden he has an 'atrocious' kick. If you've seen him play in the AFL he's actually a decent enough kick for a big fella. Again you've missed the point that Cox was a shithouse kick when he came to WCE.

Doesn't matter how many times you close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears (or any other orifice of your choosing, whatever tickles your fancy) and squeal on about Naitanui being a hack. The kid will be a star. The only question is how bright his star will shine.

I said he could make the AA team at some stage.

I gave him some big raps.

Re: Melbourne should of taken Naitanui....

which makes you a homer, and does nothing to dispell the majority opinion.

well done you :thumbsu:

A smug, condescending, flog handing out grammar and comprehension lessons only to mis-spell a very basic and oft used word.

Quite ironic seeing it has the word 'spell' in it :D

Which of his skills are atrocious?

Oh and great comedy with the future predictions.:thumbsu:

Another stat based on your compilation there:

Jack Watts ave kicks: 11.1

Nicnat average kicks: 5

 LD is right- damning stats there coxy!

If I barely touched the ball my efficiency would be reasonable too...

Watts will not be the "greatest player in VFL/AFL history".

Not with his physicality.

yeh coz its as easy to get a kick playing against men as it is getting a kick playing against boys

Comparing the WAFL to the TAC is like comparing Dean Cox to Mark Jamar.

In the competition in which they both played Watts had x1.7 as many kicks which is hardly suprising comparing their relative roles. Yet only had a marginally better efficiency.

So a guy with the best kicking skills the world has ever seen as basically the same efficiency as a guy who is an atrocious kick?

Yeah, nah.

Well by your logic there Nicknat should've dominated against the boys then?

5 kicks a game is hardly dominating, its a poor return in fact. Nicknat's more physically mature too so 5 kicks a games against 'the boys' is very disappointing.

Re: Melbourne should of taken Naitanui....

Watts will be a star, he has skills and athletic ability in spades so I wouldn't be worried in the slightest if I was Melbourne.

You just have to remember that Watts is one of those guys that dominates at everything he does when it comes to sport, and as he puts on some muscle (he should spend a few months in the gym with Brent Moloney) and works out what's required as a KPP, he will ease the p155 out of the competition one day.

Comeback to us in 5 years time and tell us if you think Melbourne stuffed up

post of the century Bartos

Way to dig your own grave

Relative roles? Nicknat plays around the ground! Watts at CHF. Shocking call there!

Ruckmen are usually used as a link player around the ground. Ruckmen in general don't have kicking as a strength and usually give off a handball to a running player.

From memory Watts played as both a Winger and a KPP in the U18s/TAC, a role which you would expect more kicks from.

Not the greatest call, but hardly shocking. ;)

Re: Melbourne should of taken Naitanui....

More dribble. Anyone who judges young key position players on their first two games has no idea.
In 10 year Watts might be a consistent superstar. Naitanui might be a flashy player who lacks consistency.

Some players just have that 'X' factor and have something we haven't seen before. Franklin has it, and Naitanui has it!
