Fitzroy's lowest ever score was 1.0.6 which was in Round 8 1953 against the Dogs.

Fitzroy was kept to only one goal three times in its VFL-AFL history. Round 13 1900, Round 8 1953 and Round 11 1989. I was at the game in 1989. The final score was Fitzroy 1.8.14 to North Melbourne 6.13.49, on one of the wettest days of football I have ever experienced.

He was probably thinking of the game when Fitzroy failed to score for the best part of 3/4 of a match....
