Not a big jump but going steadily

Yes not a big jump but steady every day, we still added 219 overnight to the hawks 99.....We are currently 3122 behind them (compared to 7480 5 weeks ago) by 2moro expect to be under 3,000....I say we are still on target to overtake them by around RD 1/2 on current daily differentials.

That we pass Hawthorn this year is a given, the question is will we make our 75k? Last week was a good one on the back of our own facebook sell but we have fallen behind again this week tracking slower than the last two years selling. The membership department need to have targeted fresh sell areas and campaigns each week to keep things live. If the hints about this mystery campaign are correct and it is something to do with membership its good to see something pro-active happening - though if people are interpreting it that way they may be holding off and waiting for the announcement in case there are prizes or such.

The club should do 5(or what ever) golden ticket membership per year. If you get it you get your membership money returned(or next year free) as a marketing idea.

I like it, Willy Wonka style, but maybe we call ours....Conca's golden tickets? :D

Let's not get carried away about 75,000.....its all about winning onfield. We simply neeed to win on the field and the underlying size of our active potentially matchgoing membership buying legions of real fans will kick in.

If we win a couple of games all bets are off.

You don't think we'll get there ?

Lol @ Hawtorn going flat out with membership ads on bigfooty and today on the back page of the Hun.

They won the flag and still need to advertise ?

Because they are club with a middling supporter base desperately trying to con themselves and the broader football public into believing they are now one of the big four. On field success and a Tasmanian monopoly are the key and both won't last forever, and then the natural order of things will reassert itself. Pretty offensive seeing those disgusting wee & poo colours on Richmond pages though.

Keep in mind that a lot of people have not even thought about football for the past 4.5 months. Unfortunately the game is only on foxtel which means not everyone will have it in their forefront but anyone that checks the news or paper tomorrow will be reminded.

Football is back and the membership numbers will increase quickly.

I think we'll fall a couple of thousand short but it is OK.

any sustained success will see us regularly reach numbers in the 70 to 80,000 range.

In fact anything is possible. One of the interesting things about supporting Richmond is that we simply do not know how big the club can be.

Still remember in the mid 90's Bruce Macavaney on CH 7 saying "timmy (tim watson) has anyone got more supporters than Richmond they seem to out number everyone, they have an army here tonight"...

U know ive always said in Vic we are No 1 then pies then ess then blues, hawks, etc Of course Bombers would say they are No 1 and Pies too but u know what when theirs a massive game we out number them both more times than not....

On a national level id say ess and pies first then rich and carl....Only cause we haven't had the opportunity like pies and bombers to grow our supporters in those regions due to lack of success....But next 5+ years we can further grow our support in Vic and interstate with sustained success, please please even one premiership will cause a frenzy of new support....

In terms of soft "me too" national support there is no doubt that we lag behind Essendon, Collingwood and Carlton and indeed Hawthorn probably have stolen a march there as well.

However in terms of Victorian based matchgoing fans - hard support - we equal Collingwood and Essendon and distance everyone else. To be honest a Richmond going well with a big game coming up is probably the biggest event in Victorian sport with only the Pies/Bombers on a really good run being in any way equal.

We lack the soft support that comes with winning....the kind of support Hawthorn has picked up in droves since 2007 but I wonder how valuable that is. Where we are strong is in the "hard numbers" Bums on seats with is what creates an athmosphere.

All the talk of who is or is not in he Big 4 is silly...always has been. Put either richmond or Collingwood in the finals positions and put on a big game and watch what Big 4 means.
