I'm still a firm believer that Lovett is the only player on the list who will be up for trade.

Also something that I haven't seen mentioned is next year the Gold Coast FC will be trading some of those draft picks for experienced players and that's when a team like Essendon may be able to cash in on trading a player like NLM or McPhee.

through trades, we might get a late 1st rounder, but wouldnt expect much else, seeing as everyone will want to get some quality young-uns before GC take all the picks

i do like the sound of gettin picks of GC for some experienced players. could give em NLM, ricky D, laycock.....would get an decent early pick for all 3 together...
...if we traded them separatly theyre worth about a buck 20

We wish... but doubt it

rischitelli's not that good, anything more than say our third round pick or Lovett would be paying over the odds for him.

he is good, but our chances of getting him took a hit when voss was announced as coach. tough for a kid to say to michael voss, "i want to leave".

hope we get him though

I wouldn't mind a trade where we send Lovett and (or) Lovett-Murray PLUS a 2nd round pick to a team like St.Kilda/Richmond/Brisbane for their first round pick.

It would mean we'd be able to draft Hurley at 5 and hope that another high regarded Midfielder slides down to 7, 8 or 9.

If Naitanui doesn't slide down to Port's pick, I think they'll go with Hurley to be honest. They had Damon White at CHB and Matthew Westhoff, a first year player, at CHF in the last round of the season. He could turn out to be a great player at either end, and has the foot skills required to succeed in what position he ends up playing at. It would hurt to not pick up a promising, young, home-grown midfielder like Hartlett but they have enough classy young mids I reckon. Salopek, Pearce & Boak just to name a few, with the likes of both Cornes & Burgoyne brothers running around them.

if their is truth behind the WCE and Lovett, what about:

Lovett + Pick 5 -> WCE

for

Pick 2 + player x(or 4th round pick maybe)

have thought about this for a few days, and thought, A, the eagles will get their man (Lovett) and still have a high enough draft pick to get a quality player.

Essendon, trade a good player, and secure their man(Hurley), and also gain another pick, could get a 3rd rounder, but dont think the WCE are that keen on him IMO.

Thoughts....

There are so many different scenarios.

I have to say i'm surprised at the lack of people interested in trading for a Key Defender.

Sure, many say let's pick one with pick 5 but we have another option, something like this.

Trade Lovett for a second round pick.

Trade that second round pick to Richmond for Luke McGuane.

Draft Ziebell or Hartlett with our first draft choice.

We gain a KP defender, we gain a top Midfield prospect and only lose Lovett who is on the way out if the rumours are true.

With McGuane you know he can play and would come in next year and play FB or CHB straight away.

Plus it is possible that Richmond would go for the trade as they have their tall defender needs covered.

I have actually thought the same thing, but instead of the Tigers, have looked at the WCE list closely, they have an abundance of talls, at both ends of the ground, have really liked the looks of Wilkes and Spangher, but they wouldnt come cheap,

Not a bad idea HFF..... but I wonder if Hurley would still be available anyway at pick 5 so we may still get our man and not have to give up Lovett (or use him in a different trade).

If we got pick 2, I would be tempted to get Rich - a classy midfielder with good foot skills.

I would love Hurley ahead of Rich, big call I no, but, look at the Judd saga, he came back to his home town, and we IMO, have enough midfield prospects coming through the ranks, some not as good as others.

Fair enough HFF... but my guess is that there would be some fans out there who would argue that we lack genuine class in our midfield at present.

Yes, I spose we do, plenty of time for the kids to start delivering, some prosepctful ones in their though, Myers looks a very likely type, Reimers will be a working star, Lonergan is a gun in and under, so something to work the foundations on isnt their.

If we got pick 2, as in your scenario HFF and didn't pick Daniel Rich or Jack Watts, I would be devastated. They are the two best players at this stage from the draft (obviously anyone has the potential to become the best), and would look very nice in the red and black.

Highly doubt Wesst Coast would do that, they want Rich.

you would be surprised though, any thing can happen come draft week, one of Rich, Hartlett or Ziebell, would you complain taking one of those three, they are all going to become (hopefully) awesome AFL players.

Merv, was looking through some of the other lists, and here are a few players i would like your view on,

Wayde Mills (Bris) 195cm, 91kg, 21y.o, has been developed, wouldnt cost much for us to get him IMO, as they have their back 6 developing well together,

Simon Prestigiacomo (Coll) 193cm, 96kg, 30y.o, the pies may be looking to go for youth, is developed, can play, but is on the thinner side of his career.

Nathan Carrol (Melb) 191cm, 91kg, 28y.o, is a pretty solid performer, would not cost too much as the young demons are looking to rebuild their list, one that we could look at maybe Merv.

Toby Thurstans (Port) 196cm, 96kg, 28y.o, a key element of the P.A back 6, but may cost a little bit, is a really good solid player,

Matt Maguire (St.K) 190cm, 94kg, 25y.o, would be in the best 22 for the sts when fit, but we would be after KPP, and Maguire is more of a 3rd defender IMO,

Beau Wilkes (WCE) 194cm, 96kg, 22y.o, is really beggining to show something at AFL at FB, may have to give up something to get him though,

Matthew Spangher (WCE) 193cm, 90kg, 22y.o, is showing signs but is finding it a little hard to hold down a regular spot in the WCE lineup, although still young, may need to give up something to get him IMO,

their you go merv, a few players that we could maybe have a look at, think Carrol may be a good fit, a regular FB at the Demons, if they delist him, we could maybe give him a lifeline and use him until Pears/Hurley:D develop into our FB,

thoughts everyone.......

Knighter's youth policy would probably rule Presti, Thurstans and Carroll out.

Wilkes and Spangher are worth looking at.

I think we've gone after Goose unsuccessfully before. He is rather injury prone as well - not something we need any more of.

Mills is unproven, but may be able to be picked up on the cheap.

Like Spangher alot from that list. Would be prepared to offer Lovett for him if that is what the Eagles were interested in. Still rather unproven, but they rate him highly being a springy, tall backman, and so do I. Plays like Scarlett I reckon, could be a good comparison. Held the WAFL's leading goalkicker last year (Brad Smith) to 2 goals, and is still quite thin, just needs another few years in the gym, a few more games and he'll be raring to go me thinks.

There is almost no chance of that happening. Would be lovely if it did but let's be realistic. Lovett for their 2nd rounder is fair on both parties. That is around his market value though I do think that his highest value would be around the pick 14-15 mark. Pick 20 is still a great pick in this draft and this is the year to snare those crucial top 20 picks.

Would Freo do Lovettfor Warnock. Perhaps we throw in a 3rd or 4th rounder too to get the deal across the line? Depends if we see Laycock as a future player for Essendon. Can't imagine he impressed the coaches too much and comments made about him were not that flattering. Wouldn't have done much for his confidence Id imagine.
