Thought they sounded great - plenty of highlights. However, I disagree with a lot of you.

Disappointed they played Orion, Jump In the Fire, I Disappear and Turn The Page....they all sounded great but they left too many 'better songs' in the sheds so to speak.

Would have loved to have heard at least 2 of Bells, Sanitarium, Four Horsemen, Creeping Death, Blackened, Battery, The Thing That Should Not Be, Whiplash.....

I know you can't get them all but a few would be better than the 'we don't play this one very often' type songs. Orion I don't get to be honest. Sure, it's sound great, but so many of their great songs have massive instrumentals anyway. Don't see the need to actually play one in place of some of those songs.

Sounds like a bitch but the fact is I really loved it. Everything they played sounded awesome but I fear I'm never going to hear some of the great songs live now. I just thought the set list was a bit weaker than it should have been considering we were the 'FIRST MELBOURNE SHOW' before they needed to sell more.

On the upside - I was rapt they played Harvester. One of my personal favourites. And Fade To Black was the highlight. A great song but I couldn't believe how insanely fantastic it was live.

Well, they're playing 5 nights in Melbourne. They're hardly going to play the same songs every night. Multiple nights for ftw! Better play Creeping Death tonight though. :D

That's true, but the fact is they played all of those songs in September I'm pretty sure, except maybe Thingy.

It's really just luck of the draw really, I personally went to the second September show and so I really, really enjoyed the varied set.

Amazing.

Sure wouldn't have minded swapping a couple songs for Whiplash or Creeping Death. But everything worked.

End of the Line, probably my least favourite song from DM, but it was amazing live. The Memory Remains was nuts, the 'na na naaa na na naaaaaa' was epic. Enjoyed Turn the Page even though I wasn't sure of many of the words.

Shortest Straw and Damage Inc were definitely not expected, but were ridiculously awesome. And Harvester was sweet as, as well. Getting to see them play Orion live as well was beyond any useful describing word.

Was really annoyed at the fact he stated the last 2 songs were from Kill 'Em All and left me hanging onto hope for a couple seconds that they would play Whiplash.

Found it weird that even though they've played Seek and Destroy at every single show on this tour, and it was the only one they hadn't played up till the last song. They still asked the crowd what they wanted to hear...The few cries of Whiplash went unanswered :(

At least we got Fade to Black. Jizztastic.

Quite enjoying listening to thursday's show on my Ipod right now :thumbsu:

I liked the setlist, even though some old faves were absent. I forgot how good a song I disappear was.

My only beef was that some of the 'rare' songs they played were ones I never cared for. Damage Inc and Jump in the Fire were never really memorable to me, and could've easily been substituted for any of Battery/Whiplash/Hit the Lights/Ride the Lightning. But I won't complain :thumbsu:

That's actually the thing that annoys me though - if annoyed is the right word - because as I said I did love it.

However, this was the original Melbourne show. The others were put on because this one sold out so quickly. That being the case, I reckon this was the one that deserved their best set list as it was filled with the people who got on and bought the tickets straight up as soon as they became available.

They might not like playing the same tunes all the time but that doesn't mean much to the punter who might see them once in his life and has parted with hard earned to do it. I didn't want to hear their variety, I wanted to hear the greats.

Yeah, nah, maybe....

If in fact the night that sells out the first and fastest is the most hardcore than they are usually the ones that complain about the same old standards and want to hear some rarities.

On the flip side the one that sells out last should probably get a more 'commercial' set.

Anyone so far tonight in Melbourne, they've pulled out Ride, No Leaf Clover, Outlaw Torn, Through the Never and God that Failed and the show is only half way through....

Lucky ****ing ***** in Melbourne.
Outlaw Torn - 12th time EVER.
Dyers Eve - 35th time EVER.
Ride The Lightning

****ING PRICKS!! :p

If they tour again, I will be splashing out big time trying to get tickets to every show possible for what could well be their last tour in Australia, if it isn't already. I mean, they're nearly 50 years old, they cant go on touring like they just have on this World Magnetic tour forever. :(

I was at the Sept 15 gig and ones I hope to see this time around are The Day that Never Comes and My Apocalypse.

Ahhh... so happy I got hear My Apocalypse live and thank god for a totally different set. Incredible show, the energy from the crowd was so electric and amazing James himself said it was one of the best so far.

Dyers Eve!!
Ride the Lightning
No Leaf Clover
Outlaw Torn
The God that Failed
Through the Never
Phantom Lord!! :thumbsu:
And of course My Apocalypse
Even Cyanide, a more common one is great live.

And to top it off I got a Kirk Hammett pick :D

Can't wait for the FLACs to come out.

Can anyone please tell me what time they came on last show?

Around 9:30.

And what a setlist last night! Can't believe they played No Leaf Clover, probably my favourite Metallca song. So many other surprises in there as well like Outlaw. I went to Thursday's show as well and I didn't think they could top or at least match that setlist, but they managed it. Just really pissed that I'm not going tonight. I can't begin to think what they will pull out for the last show.

Agreed MB.
Although at that moment I was that wasted and loving life that I didn't really care. After the gig though I realised what we'd missed out on. Oh well.

I didn't see LOG, but Baroness certainly didn't disappoint.

Damn I have a sore neck.

Can't wait for tonight.
Unlike many others I'm not really looking forward to hearing DM or My Apocalypse or anything like that.
Would love to get Shortest Straw and Blackened. Either way should be great.

You're actually in the majority there. For the most part, the crowd has been rather dead for the DM stuff. I'm terrified that they're going to play it in it's entirety tonight.... Please don't Tallica. :p

i agree with everything in this post

Was an awesome couple of shows. The Outlaw Torn was a highlight last night. :thumbsu: I heard someone describe the shows & setlists as a Metallica nerds wet dream, pretty much sums it up. :) What of the chances of not hearing Creeping Death in the 3 shows though. :p You can guarantee they'll play it tonight too. :D Would have loved to gone tonight, but glad to be back home smelling some nice fresh air. :thumbsu: Sorry Melbourne. :p

Thought the crowd last night were a little rowdier, but that was mostly alcohol fueled. By the end of the show, except for the the big hits, they died in the arse. I though 1st night crowd with the all die hards appreciated all the older and left-field material more. Had some dude directly in front of me last night throwing the devil horns even before Ecstasy was played, thought that we had a bit of a nutter on our hands, turned out he didn't know anything pre-Black Album. By the time Dyers Eve came on, he was sitting down and so were the whole section for the 5 rows to the rail. Oh well, different strokes I guess.

Anyway, here's The Shortest Straw. Probably want to open it up in a new window to get the HD. I'm very sorry about my little schoolgirl giggle. :p

This Melbourne crowd was chanting Metallica before they took they stage. They have brought a whole new level of energy to this 5th show, and final show of the tour! Set started with Life, Fuel, Disposable, Thingy, and now Fade is Ending. Wolf is next, with a song later in the set that has NEVER been played before on this tour!

Sounds like it's going nuts, not surprised after last night.

I dunno.. i thought the crowd last night had high energy and was really solid throughout the night, the only fade I noticed (at all) was possibly during Outlaw Torn and No Leaf Clover - which are pretty slow songs, but after that One and Puppets picked it all back up again right through to a solid finish.

They got Fuel? Nice. I went on Thursday night and it was amazing. A fantastic mix of hit singles and more obscure tracks for the die-hards. Was hoping to hear one of the Unforgivens but I can't complain.
