Aside from changing the Archetype, you can inherent or transfer skills. For example I changed Hulkenburg to mage to unlock the fire spell then back to Knight taking the fire spell back with me.

I also changed Strohl to healer but took his warrior attacks across. Then with my MC as a mage, the synergy between me and Strohl is fire, ice or thunder spell that targets all.

Just after I posted that I realised I could inherit the first level skill from any archetype just by studying it once with that character. It looks like after you scratch the surface there is the opportunity for some very deep min/maxing by mixing and matching archetype types within the party and what synergy abilities you can unlock. I'm about to start the first optional side dungeon for a side a quest and it sounds like you can't bring a mage or healer so I'll get to work on another archetype for my MC.

Zorba fight made me realise I was sleeping on synergy abilities. Speaking of Zorba I feel like I've lost a few days judging by the network thing that tells you what other players did on what day. I always struggle with time management around the first dungeon of Persona games too. When it looks like many are finishing them in 1-2 game days I think this took me 4 or 5. I just couldn't manage my MP efficiently and it puts me behind levelling stats and bonds for the rest of the early game.

I lost a day with the big gap in safe rooms. You get 1 MP for each enemy you kill in the over world, to beat it that quick they probably backtracked to weaker enemies and farmed MP.

I’m in the that dungeon now, mage and healer are fine until you get to the boss haha.

I love the combat updates from Persona like the rows to protect certain members and stuff, but I do miss the school life time management from Persona. I'm sure there will be more options to manage time later in the game though.
agreed with the combat, definitely improved.
i kinda miss the monster collecting/fusing though - kinda scratched the old pokemon itch (i cant play pokemon anymore, its just too easy/boring)

also agree re the missing school component. but wouldnt have wanted the same thing again either. yeah hopefully things open up a bit, wont be surprised as they do like to drip feed new mechanics of the first half of the games

Did you say your MC is a mage? Because I know mage archetype has a passive ability to regain MP on defeating enemies. If that's for everyone though then I've missed it and derped my early game 😟

The rumours of P6 are that it won't be in school but more an arts college or something. So still kind of school but lots of people think that a change of setting might be needed for Persona. I sort of agreed just for something different but now after experiencing Metaphor I don't think I want Persona to leave the high school setting. I like that Metaphor is fantasy and different because it's a different game outside of SMT but when it comes to Persona I want a Persona that is Persona.

I love trying to fuse Personas and sometimes by accident creating an absolute beast of Persona. So I wasn't sure what I'd think about archetypes but I think for this game it still works for me. Instead of grinding for Personas I'm grinding archetype ranks to unlock the next one. Being allowed to equip more abilities is nice and not worrying about having to carry around Personas I don't want to use just to level social links is a weight off the shoulders.
