I think that this id a fabulous appointment; a man who will command respect and bring a modern viewpoint to the coaches box. His dissection of games on Fox Footy was insightful and he was impressive on The Recruit too.
Congratulations for landing at the greatest club in Australia, Vossy.
The beautiful thing about this is that, when the Crows approached Voss, he refused citing media commitments. Different story when Port came calling. Vossy also knocked the Swans back: do we need any more proof that the Power is now THE club of choice, on AND off the field???????
Yeah, not sure about this. It tends to be a standard line from prospective coaches when they sense that they are not getting a certain job to "rule themselves out". IMO the Crows were up to their nuts in the guts of Phil Walsh at the time and Voss was told that he wouldn't get the job.
Publicly ruling oneself out = face-saving usually.

Tuned in about 2pm saw this news & was absolutely cheering, then I saw this thread has hit 15 pages in such a short space in time & thought most of the PAFC BF community must be as stoked about landing a 2nd senior coach in the box as I was.

Make no mistake this is a massive coup Voss is an upgrade on what Walsh brought to the table, sure we added elite handballing but we went backwards in a few other areas namely occasionally overusing the handball in games.

Voss alongside Carr will add the hard nosed mongrel edge to take our onballers to the next level of leaving absolutely everything out on the field, we'll soon see players like Young, Wines, Moore run through brick walls for fun whilst Polec, Wingard & Harts will go from young stars to elite standard.

Welcome to the club Michael looking forward to pics of you & Carr embracing after we win a premiership :thumbsu:

A Port supporter is worried about Voss due to his coaching tenure at Brisbane not going well for him. From what I've seen from Voss on TV when before he was coach of the Lions I thought he was very clear with his explanations and illustrations. Why did he not do well as head coach? Is it a case of simply he is good at coaching a smaller focus group rather than a whole list and club OR were there other sound reasons for Voss's tenure as head coach not going so well? I'm interested to know what people think.
He had an administration that was incompetent at best, Fevola was not all his idea - yet he carried the can for it. Vastly underrated coach and tactician, he will not let you down.

Still loving this. Its a smart choice and he's as good as anyone thats available. I think the part I like the most is his role with the AIS. Thought he got the best out of some midfield players when at Brisbane too - Rockliff, Redden, Adcock for example.

Some one rang into the radio and asked if they thought Vossy will get invited to the 2004 premiership reunion. Lol.

Haha must have read my post from 5 or 6 pages back.

Absolutely Brilliant Idea and something to run with.

Not the only thing happening that night either.

You have not misled us re Ken Hinkley, and your assessment is respected here as well.

Many thanks, mate.

Voss has been on SEN this year. As a an unabashed fan of everything he has done, it's been amazing just to hear him kick back and call it as he sees it. Shannon Byrnes is known as a bit of an off beat tweeter and the did a quick interview with him one morning. The had a bit of a ring in competition to try and get him a nickname, given that he's only known as Vossy. Byrnes sent in a txt saying that in his first game in the 3rd qtr he thought he was going all right. Ther was a boundary throw in and as they set up Voss yelled to the umpire "stop the game, stop the game" the central umpire came in and asked what was wrong, Vossy pointed to Byrnes and said "there is an Auskick kid still on the ground". Everyone pissed themselves and Byrnes knew were he stood. As a competitor he has no peer.

Many players said Voss was the best sledger. And many of them said he was funny not nasty sledges - but could play the nasty boy if need be.

Love the one he did to brother Brett when he stood the mark and Brett was having a shot from 45m out close to his maximum distance.

Great story. Almost makes me think that when cRowie asks him - as he will - why he didn't choose the crows, Vossy will say 'Because I wanted to go to an AFL club' :D

I like this too, very much.
I have a couple of lingering doubts about his coaching shrewdness, but I always thought the Lions were fairly competitive under Vossy and they certainly had our measure for a large part of the time he was there.

I agree that he seemed to preside over the development and emergence of an exciting young midfield group in Rich, Redden and Rockliff. He'll set a great example to our midfield group in terms of preparing themselves to be the best, and his toughness and competitiveness will complement that of our other coaches and of Ken.
