Coach Michael Voss

I’ll preface this by saying I like Voss and behind him as our current and future coach

But outside of what the club put out, in the exit meeting did Voss also put the onus on himself and his coaching team to also get better? Did he admit that he did not give the team that took the field the best chance of succeeding out there?

Is he going to have a big season to reflect, learn and implement?

Or was it all about being harder for longer, consistency, get uncomfortable etc etc?

People who aren’t happy will find a way to pick holes and spew conspiracy theories every time the club puts out anything. Similar principle the other way with people that buy into the “run through a wall” rhetoric.

I like that a lot of what he said, and it makes me happy that he actually said a lot of those things in a meeting. And I certainly don’t begrudge the club for putting it out. But it is ultimately words, even if that’s all that can be done until the first game is played next year.

Keep finding ways to develop and get better, and that’s just about all I can ask for as a lifelong fan

Better to be ripping into them and saying they're a bunch of failures who'll never amount to anything?
I'd find it more motivating if the coaches fell on their swords a bit and announced to the players..."you blokes have worked your guts out. but we've let you down in some areas".

Whenever I hear the "we are still an unfinished product" line, it feels that this is aimed more towards the players and not the club.(we are no longer a young team)

Our Club is bigger than 1 player. Love Cripps but I believe that he needs to adjust his stoppage game. Watch Danger, or Bonts and you will see them almost hiting the ball drop zone at speed.

The point is they are moving, Cripps is always being manhandled and stagnate which allows the opponent to negate him, and only through sheer brute force does he get away.
I'm glad you see it as well. Been mentioning our flat footedness for years. Stand and wrestle is a horrible tactic. Been wanting a new midfield coach for a long time.

Apart from the obvious concern around Vossy's coaching ability, I'm more concerned that our selection panel seemed to either miss his tactical fragilities or saw it and decided it could be overcome.

I don't see the point in sacking him if we still don't seem able to spot candidates with significant weaknesses.
Or, saw it, raised concerns and were overruled.

It’s impossible to know.

Think of all the garbage selection calls across the season and the peak stupidity in the final and realise that a match committee collectively made those.

Willingly or unwillingly it’s hard to know which would be worse

After his first season as coach, Voss was asked in the media about f he was heading overseas in the off season on any educational trips.

His response was, not unless I want a divorce.

It’s was a small comment for me to latch on to but he’s in a competition against 18 other coaches, lots of which go yearly in the hope to improve their craft and better themselves.

I’ve never read anywhere in his three years that he’s doing anything.

He moved to Melbourne during Covid to take the Carlton job, and his family stayed in Adelaide. That’s what the response was about.

I don’t know
I would love to see something, something that made it sound like our coach is working hard to better himself and become a better coach.

As I mentioned, he’s also in competition with 17 other coaches, he’s made some really bad calls this year, I just hope he’s aware and things are in place to help him improve.

The year isn’t over but I look at Brisbane with a great list and great home ground advantage and great injury record, yet they don’t perform and all I can think of is Fagsn just isn’t good enough.

GWS are the same too, when they had Cameron.

Leon had the Sheedy blessing. Was untouchable for ages and he knew it.

Can you imagine how hard 90 % of the BF community would be coming for Vossy if we had lost 2 games from where GWS were in the last 2 weeks. What level is that on the master tactician Kingsley?

Difference is GWS led for 98% of their games, didn't concede a 65 point deficit. Considering where they were when Kingsly arrived he's gotten them to a top 4 level extremely quickly and has the right balance of football nouse and player management to be a very good coach. And he's changed their game style to one that is balanced in accountability, attack and defence.

His only mistake was making Toby captain as it's eunached him by having him focus on 'leading' which has impacted his mindset that made him a very good player.

Voss has continued from the Teague era of inconsistent flip flops in season and games. The same thing we saw 4-5 seasons ago, the typical 1 quarter burst that gives us a win or a close loss.

The failure mind you isn't 100% on his shoulders but he's guiding the ship and what's he been guiding it to? Because a lot of players at times, assistants, football manager, supporters etc seem a little confused.

If he keeps asking for more effort and intensity he’ll lose them pretty quick. I’ve never really doubted this teams effort and intensity. We are one of the highest pressure teams in the competition. That’s not the sign of a team not giving enough effort. The issue arises in that the game plan makes us have to work so hard for goals while other teams get easy ones. Back end of the year with the injury toll and the taxing game style and we were absolutely cooked.

If he walked up to me and asked for more effort and intensity after I’ve just given my all and essentially laid the blame on the players more than the plan.. then I can see this ending badly just as it did at Brisbane.

This is where we need to bring in quality ball users and shift the reliance on being such a heavily contested team. It’s just not sustainable. And also.. reward VFL form and not just when significant injuries hit.

It's true, our outside game isn't great and we have been caught with the game becoming more outside.

We haven't got the players to play the way we want and need to play at the level we want to be at. Blame recruiting and the direction the coaching group has been giving list management.

The coach has his downfalls. I think that can be fixed by some assistants who are up with modern footy being added to the mix.

I think that we really struggle against some of the modern sides. The quicker sides with good closing speed really get us and there are more and more sides like this popping up.

Voss wants effort and standards, that's fine, it's a big part of it all. But he needs to trust more of his list. Rotate more through the middle and play more of his reserves.

We are crying out for a really good senior assistant and I hope the rumours of us reaching out to Adam Simpson are on the money.

Brett Ratten is also one of the best assistants in the game. I am not sure if bridges are burnt there or not but he is another I would be reaching out to for an assistant role. Ratten was always a creative coach and good at Identifying where players can play and often had players moving around in various positions. I feel Ratten's strengths and weaknesses would balance our Voss' strengths and weakness. But he may well be very happy at Hawthorn.

Simmos already adamently said he's taking a year off.

Ratten you never know?? After North stint he was saying heading away from football and if stayed maybe in administration to end up back at Hawks as an assistant.

I'd think only way we get Ratten back is as a senior coach if he ever wants to do that again.
