What is Tommy Bell like as a leader?? He was just about the only one that really had a crack yesterday, threw his body at everything.. Up until now he would have just been worried about getting a game each week, but is clearly now in our best lineup and might be able to show some leadership.

I know it may seem a tad hypocritical, but i just don't feel someone who is obviously going to be a strict disciplinarian like Bassett is going to be helpful for a team with our list.

On the other hand, we do need leaders on-field who sometimes have 'white light fever' like Hodge, its a bit embarrassing to see one of our high profile vice captains being thrown around like a rag doll several times already this season, must be so deflating to the playing group.

Anyhow, very confident Bassett won't be our next coach, honestly don't think we go down that path.

Our whole team has 'white light fever'...like bunnies staring into the headlights

I cant wait to hear what riveting solution Mark Robinson, Matthew Lloyd and Gerard Healy have to our current predicament on tonight's round of footy shows.

What I don't get right is. We got Whiley "competitive beast, hunts the footy, nice size, full of heart. Miles mkII. Gets to Cartlon - tagger, no confidence, Deere in the headlights.

KJ - kicks like a mule, beautiful size, potential key position player. Gets to Carlton- played forward and back, played in the 2 and then comes back as a CHB, can't hit a target etc.

Is it development, gameplan, culture, lack of confidence?? Anyone and all of these can be caused by the coach......

These blokes know how to play footy so why can't they??

I really don't know anymore I was in Micks corner but the gameplan is really hard to watch. Is rather get smashed running and gunning than lose to the bottom side by playing boundary line footy!!!

Nathan Bassett doesn't fill me with confidence, he might be too aggressive for Sa young, fractured playing list down on confidence ..

I'm the opposite about Bassett, I think he is the right man for us based on his coaching record thus far.

Bassett was the senior coach of the Norwood Football Club which plays in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He coached them to the Grand Final in his first season in 2010, and led the Redlegs to their 28th SANFL premiership with a 12.7 (79) to 3.12 (30) win over West Adelaide in the Grand Final at AAMI Stadium. Back-to-back premiership success came in 2013 over North Adelaide. At the last match ever played at AAMI Stadium, in front of almost 37,000 fans, Norwood defeated North Adelaide 10.12 (72) to 4.8 (32).

Norwood finished 7th or 8th in 2009 so to take them to a GF in your first season is no mean feat. Clearly he was able to sort out the playing group, find the players he needed for success and mould them into something formidable. This is serious player development, a key ingredient we seem to be missing right now.

He is untried at senior AFL level but is an assistant at Essendon currently so even if we gave him the job and he doesn't make major inroads on our ladder position, you would have to expect there would be a genuine improvement in the quality of the list and the ongoing development of the players within.

Added to that, we are not expecting to all of a sudden rocket back up the ladder. Whilst it would be nice, it is just unrealistic and we are better off doing the hard spade work in building a really solid list for the future.

Doing it by example on-field, but I don't think has have the self-confidence to lead through times like this. Can you imagine Bell telling Gibbs to pull his finger out?

The trick is finding one that does have that self-belief, puts their arse on the line, and isn't stinking the place up. Touhy? Docherty?

My gut feeling is Bassett will end up at Richmond, I suspect Hardwick will lose his job before Mick, the way Richmomd are going (The Tigers have been as poor as us this season so far)

and we only lost the 2010 gf by 6 points.Callinan broke the jaw of Simon Phillips (who was our best player up to then). Not that I am still bitter

Maybe the SA connection with Trigg might come into play if we wanted him.

The other thing is, even if the club was going to end Malthouse's tenure at the end of the season, they could still sign up the replacement coach now and have it locked in.

In Bassett's case, it would need to be kept confidential given he is at Essendon right now and it would be seen as a conflict of interest if announced early.

Don't regret signing Mick, Ratts had to go and I'm glad we didn't die wondering. Now that it looks to have gone pear shaped, I just pray that we can show some class with the transition and treat him with the respect he deserves.

Are you suggesting we might have learned something from the way we disposed of Ratten ??

I dont understand enough about medical and high performance to understand if the guys in there are qualified or doing a decent job, but from the outside it is clear the conditioning of our players is disgraceful, none of them can run out games and even there body shapes look less lean than a lot of our rivals.... We currently have virtually no injuries and a full list to choose from so what is going on...

The whole coaching staff needs to go, and I agree Andy McKay was there as a mate of Sticks and has appeared to make some horrendous decisions so should fall on his sword.

The hard thing is going to attract good assistant coaches to us, as most of them will know we are ages off and coming to Carlton is not likely to advance there careers into a senior coaching spotlight, so we need to look at a mix of ex senior coach and young inexperienced assistants.

What about a coaching set up of -
GM of Football Operations - Short of poaching someone like Chris Fagan or Neil Blame, not 100% sure who has the strategic ability for this role, perhaps someone like Peter Sumich.
Senior Coach - Leigh Tudor
Director of Coaching & Development - Guy McKenna

Senior Assistant Coach – Dale Amos
Assistant Coach Midfield– Luke Ball
Assistant Coach Midfield– Jude Bolton
Assistant Coach Forward- Nick Riewolt (should he retire at season end) Adam Goodes or Jonathan Brown.
Assistant Coach Defence- Corey Enright (should he retire) or Matthew Scarlett, Darren Glass, Nick Maxwell.
Some excellent suggestions to fill positions here, I like it. I will say though, if Adam Goodes comes within touching distance of the joint, I may be out. For good. Don't want that self serving prick anywhere near the place.

Gibbs should be traded
Murphy should be traded
Judd and Carrazzo will retire at years end.
Hendo might want to be traded.
Walker should be traded if it's a good trade.
Jones should be delisted
Warnock traded or delisted
Armfield delisted
Ellard delisted
Waston probably delisted or traded
Get Dylan Shiels, Tom Mitchell and Charile Dixion without using to many draft picks (This is a massive stretch)
Go to draft
New coach probably doesn't matter who coaches.
Great names, but why would they want to come to a club that does not honour its own players contracts.'
Guys like Gibbs, Murphy, Walker and Hendo are not easy to replace.
Maybe if those guys were played in their correct position it would be better.
IMO Gibbs is good at directing traffic out of the back half and offering relief in the midfield.
Murphy would be an awesome small forward who can run through the midfield.
Walker is a forward who can run through the midfield and Hendo is a back.
That means we have a big hole in the midfield and need to get Cripps, Whiley, Graham etc. developing fast. Getting games into these guys may hurt short term but will help us LT. Having guys like Judd, Simmo and Thomas helping them develop is Gold.
