mick has to declare what he is doing either way, if he intends to leave say that and say his sole goal is to get the premiership for this group to end a wonderful chapter or on the other hand say he will be delighted so help behind the scenes to help buckley in his new role.
no half arse riddle type answers anymore, im sick of it, im sure all collingwood supporters are sick of it. our club has not had success until recently for so long, DONT BLOW A POTENTIAL DYNASTY

Re: Mick Won't Be At Collingwood in 2012- Mike Sheahan

Given that Bucks is the coach, and the future, it has to be MM who leaves, in the event that they don't feel two bulls in the paddock will work.
Sheahan isn't, generally, known as a balls-out rumour monger, so this is a fair statement. Do you anticipate this will cause any disruption?

Previously Collingwood has been an impenetrable, united, consistent face presented to the media.

I think Sheahan is on the money, Mick was never going to play a minor role at the Club. I believe Micks eventual aim is to coach Richmond.
You dont tell Ballarat boys what to do Eddie!

I'd like to echo the sentiments of those that simply don't give a shit anymore, however I just couldn't wrap my head around this sentence.

How does Mike know that MM has made this decision if its private? Or as Darryl Kerrigan's lawyer would say is it just the vibe of the whole thing! Seriously not one source was quoted bar Sidwell's regarding no change.

Again I'm no longer fussed with what occurs next year, but that was one piece of shit article and Mike is generally better than that....

Spot on, how the hell does Shehan know what is going on if its all private. Was MM getting drunk at a BBQ with Shehan and spilled the beans on his couch?

Anyway, Bucks will be our coach next year. Everything else does not matter.

My typical response to a Mike Sheahan article;

I can't see why I would change my response for this article.

Agree with this totally and hope we could have a dynasty and dont blow it,we seemed to be making more trouble for ouselves than all the others combined.

I don't have access to a radio at the moment but am really interested in what is said, can someone update once the interviews done? :)

wasn't even an interview. Just a statement read out by the court jester of Pie haters Neil Mitchell. The standard 'still defining the roles...won't be coaching anywhere next year' line.

Re: Mick won't be at Collingwood in 2012- Mike Sheahan

THIS! That is exactly how i have felt all year.

I too am over it. We are Collingwood, not Malthouse, not Buckley (although I am looking forward to him coaching).

I haven't bought the Sun for over 6 years and seems like I never will. Since when does the news reporters become the news, I mistook them for reporting news not making it up. Murdoch press! Enough said, Thank God for the ABC.

Are they trying to destabilize us?

My future

25.07.2011 | Posted in Commentary by Michael Malthouse | 12 comments

I will not be at any other club, in any role, next year.

I need to be clear on this, because by saying that I will not coach anywhere else, it seems I have inadvertently implied I may hold another position elsewhere. This is not the case, and I’ll tell you why.

I have a very strong bond with my Collingwood boys.

Yes I had a similar connection with my West Coast players for the decade I was with the Eagles, and so too with my Bulldog troops for the 6 years I was at Footscray, so yes I found it very difficult to leave those people behind when I departed those clubs.

But I’m older now, and with time and age nostalgia sets in. I’ve spent more years at Collingwood than anywhere else, so the thought of saying farewell to these lads, to compete against them, goes against every fibre of my being.

Another reason I object to being linked with any other club is that I can sympathize with how the present coaches of those teams are feeling. I have dealt with that kind of pressure before and I know also that their families wouldn’t be coping well with any hint of a take over.

I’m not that naïve to think that there won’t be a coaching shuffle, as in most years; it’s just not something I need to be involved with right now.

It sends a cold shiver through me when there is even a suggestion that I will replace a current coach.

For people who have never been in this position, it is highly stressful. To have your position threatened and your effort questioned, leaves a knot in your stomach and hits you right in the heart. Your family becomes defensive at the negative talk because they can’t deal with their anguish in any other way. The public scrutiny is horrendous and at times traumatic.

The final reason I won’t be switching clubs is that I have a contract with Collingwood for a further three years after this one, in a different role to my current position. I signed it in good faith that I could continue to help in developing the team and the club beyond my reign as senior coach.

The day-to-day role of Director of Coaching is still being determined, as it is a difficult position to define. Will it be like Mark Thompson’s assistant coaching role at Essendon? He sits in the box on match days and is involved in team selection and game planning.

Or will it have elements of the David Parkin approach with Wayne Brittain at Carlton, where he seemed to have a close mentoring association with his successor?

The answers here are, no. It won’t look like either of these roles.
The Collingwood role basically needs to justify its existence. It needs to help the club move forward. It should make use of my experience and knowledge, as 28 years of coaching practice has provided me with some tips, techniques and methods to pass on.

However, whatever the role becomes, it must provide the club with what it needs to be successful. Nathan Buckley needs to be comfortable and happy with it, as do the rest of the football department.

Most of all, the Collingwood players need to be happy.

For all the talk, the playing group has known and accepted from day one, that Nathan would be their coach at the end of this season. This isn’t the issue and has never been the issue, despite how it’s been interpreted in the media.

Do I still have a passion for coaching? Absolutely! However, attending the Celebration of Life of Allan Jeans at the MCG on Wednesday, I saw that the passion of a coach, that competitive spirit, never dies. It doesn’t leave you; it’s in your blood.

I now need to work out if that passion can extend to the role of Director of Coaching. Without passion I cannot function.

The thought of not coaching does sadden me, but it would still sadden me if the end came in ten years time, instead of this year. As a coach you always face the threat of your tenure ending abruptly. At least I have time to adjust to it.

Speaking and writing publicly about this issue was never high on my agenda, though the thought that constant media scrutiny and speculation could derail our season led me to face the situation head on. Call me naive, but I thought it would help the club to demonstrate that my loyalties aren’t shifting.

My sole focus right now is on the team, and reaching our full potential this season. We need to maximize our start. As of this weekend, we’ve played eight new players from last year’s grand final and I want to ensure they have the same capacity to work within the team structure as their more experienced teammates.

My only focus this weekend is on beating the Gold Coast Suns.

Beyond October my focus will be on my family. We have been on a wild ride for a long time and we all need a short breather.

When I signed the contract over two years ago, personal struggles at the time (a dying mother, a very sick grandchild and a grieving daughter,) gave me a new perspective on things and reminded me of what’s really important. Hearing the family of Allan Jeans speak at his funeral this week, once again reminded me of that.

Personally, I think everyone is trying to destablise us.

How fitting is that this "private" issue (according to Mike) has hit the papers on the eve of finals?

I fully expect MM to be at Collingwood in 2012.

However, as others have pointed we are Collingwood, not Mick Malthouse.

Yes and they are getting more and more desperate the closer it comes to the end of the season, they are getting more blatant by the day with their bias.

I cant beleive how many articles there has been on this issue. I think he will go and it will be best for both parties if he left. Just hope he doesnt go to another club.

That sound like the Best Outcome and Mick joins the Media

Goneski. Don't think it'll make a difference in the slightest though. Will be good to allow Buckley to fully take the reigns without having Malthouse leaning over him at every turn. If Bucks hasn't learnt what he needed to from Mick by now, he never will.

Sheahan is scum, the HUN havn't filled there quota for Magpie storys this week so he came to the rescue, tommorow it will be how we destroyed Freo and we're bad for the competion and there should be a cap on football department spending or, if Freo get within 5 goals, it will be how we're tired and on one leg and don't deserve to be premiershiup favourites.

That and we should investigated for asking for a GC reserves team sheet.

This is just an opinion article with a strong headline. I'm also in the don't care camp but this wouldn't be the first time Sheahan has said things like this and been shown to have no idea what he's talking about.

I don't understand how he can say Malthouse is keep his throughts private or whatever but then Sheahan can come to the conclusion that he won't be there.

I'm over Mick's territorial pissing, dropping hints to the media, little backhand swipes at Buckley.

Buckley's our coach for next year, and Mick would be a destabilising influence.

FFS Eddie, if he wants to go, let him.

No point having a disgruntled dual premiership coach hanging around.

yep please eddie do the club a favour and just let him walk if he wants to

The thing is that when this plan was put into place it was done to help buckley and Malthouse, cos at the time we didn't want to lose Buckley to North and Malthouse had been at the club for 10 years with no success.

What Eddie did was instigate a premiership !
This is what everyone hoped for but didn't count on.

It happened i am very greatful but plaese don not underestimate Buckley's role in us winning the flag last year.

This current side can and will win a few more flags,so let me ask you all this........Sure this year the pies deserve to win the flag, they are by far the best team all year. The league ladder doesn't lie, look at the diffrence in stas between us and the rest.

But last year what if in that first gand final if Milne had of kicked a goal in the dying seconds of that grand Final and the saints won, what would we all be saying about Malthouse now ?

No Mick ,thanks mate, you are doing your job we respect it but the club must move on,and keep evolving so hello Bucks.

Look we have not won the flag yet let's not get carried away.
What if we don't win it this year, what will everyone say?

Oh and one more thing mouth ball Sheahan loves talking shite cos being a Melbourne supporter,of course he wants to destabalise us and he prays that malthouse goes to Melbourne next year.

Funny that on the one hand he says crap about malthouse but on the other he is dying to have coaching the demons.

Look Sheahan if M,lathouse went to mrelbourne he WILLNOT win them a flag.

Melboune have to get their Admin sorted and put simply they do not have the neccesray $$$$$ or resources for success.
