Listening to MMM & 3aw pregames, Miller and March were on.

They basically admitted the last 5 years the recruiting department had a shoestring budget - that basically Miller was it. That the club didn't have the finances of other clubs to spend on areas such as recruiting and player development.

That's why were in deep poo with our recruiting over the years. It's only now we are starting to bolster those areas.

In an interesting comparison, it seems we spent much of our football budget on an expensive coach who was good at marketing the club. On the otherhand, the Hawks hired a cheaper, up & coming coach and put most of their budget into recruiting and player development.

Another example of RFC incompentcy.

One FT manager and 2 PT was the recruiting department...March reported that there would be paid recruiters in ea statefrom next year, to replace the local bar fly that Miller had in his swag...sounds like a decent fella March, he'll go a long way:thumbsu:

March sounds a little bit too soft & nice...maybe it's time we get Crazy John for next year.

No thanks, he's not intersted. He just does a claim each year for some free press. March is a great president who gets the job done. Not many fans outside the RFC would even know he is our president which is great when you think that the one's who are know are for the wrong reasons "cough" Kennett "cough".

Hello! How long has 'Big Footy' been going? From my perspective there are a million ways to get intelligence on players at little cost. Their are tens of thousands of motivated supporters Australia-wide. Potential information from them needs to be sifted using an inverted pyramid method of reporting. Easy, cheap and effective. It wont work though if you have an arrogant empire builder like Miller in charge of recruiting.

They shouldn't be blaming it on recruiting funds. There would have been other ways to divide the money up so more would go into recruiting. Its their fault for not taking it seriously.

We were millions of dollars in debt, it's not a matter of us "not taking it seriously" lol

We are still paying off the millions of dollars that we owe IIRC and it won't be gone for a few more years. It's hard to spend more money when your business has -$4,000,000.00 on the balance sheet!

yeh but they are happy to be spruiking off field profits over the last 2 years

i would of thought it would be a logical move to shift some funds to the recruiting/development side of the footy department because we are in a rebuilding process and need as many resources as possible

The best way to get recruiters for free is ask former players to look around if they go to local and state games.

Michael Roach was the reason we got Benny Gale to our club, Richmond asked him to go look at some other dud player and he came back saying that Benny was the one we want, low and behold Benny wass a gun and the other guy never did anything.

I know for a fact that there are former players who will "scout" players unofficially.

How many years has March been on the RFC board? Its not like he suddenly realised we were short on the football department.

Miller spending the money on Blumfeld instead of developing 2 kids? Wasting time chasing Solomon in London?

Always ready with an excuse with these guys to buy more time.

Spot on 1980....Miller & March are part of a cosy little club known as the RFC Board. Miller has been instrumental in making the club the absolute shambles & joke that it is today.

He is nothing but a useless troublemaker who imposes his "charm" at all levels across the entire club.

Don't expect anything to change at Punt Road until he is shown the door!

...which was used to start paying back the debt! I think they still have another half of it to pay off and this year's profit is half a million less than anticipated.

Actually they recruited mature players because they were cheaper than kids.

2 mature players = 1 new draftee (cost wise)

He explained this on Footy Classified about 8 weeks ago I believe.

No, the logical move was to pay off some of the masses of debt while we can.

I'd rather guarantee the long term future of the club, even if it means the good times come a year or two later.

That applies to Mark Graham, not Blumfeld.

You telling me Solomon would have cost less than 2 kids?

Get real

Appllied even more to Bumfield with Essendon picking up the bulk of the bill.

The club announced their intention to invest their profits into recruiting and player development last year and earmarked an extra $1m for this. Miller and March having been hiding this - they have been talking about it for 18 months.

a year or 2 later starting when?

you cant draft 15 kids over 3 years and then only put in development programs when they become 21 year olds ffs

Spot on Weaver.
This has been no secret.
Financial restraints have been controlling the club for some time.
But the situation is improving!!

In hindsight, scimping on the recruiting side of the business to save money was false economy.

According to Stevie Wright, we've lost $500K due to our poor performances this year - which is apparently attributable to our poor recruiting.
