this man is the reason this thread looks truly stupid

Ha ha ha ha one of the more stupid comments I have seen.

People forget the young Daicos pre knee. Post knee and feet injuries he went forward and kicked plenty, far more than Milne ever will in a season.

Milne is not fit to be compared to Daicos, only a blind, deluded Aints fan would think otherwise.

Err ... no. Daicos would be just as good in today's game as he was then. He was a star with freakish skills. Before he went forward he was a genuinely great midfielder too. The bloke could flat-out play.

I love watching Milney play (but he's not the best FP of all time) but Daicos was in another league, none of which reflects badly on Milney. Just a different level of player.

What makes you say that? Daicos' biggest assets were things like reading the play, knowing where to run to in order to take possession, and of course, knowing exactly where the goals are at all times. None of these things have changed in the modern game, and he'd be just as dangerous.

When Milne breaks Daicos' record of 97 goals in a single season for a non full forward, then you can start comparing the 2.

So it's no harder to score now than it was? No floodiing or anything like that?

Nothing that would worry a player with Daicos' skills. He could score from just about anywhere inside 50, with virtually no space, and an opponent hot on his heals. Can't see any reason he couldn't do that in the modern game. Seriously, he'd wipe the floor with Milne.

Haha Milne has nothing on daicos, daicos is one of the main reasons the pies won their last flag(bloody bastard is the reason the eagles didn't win prelim lol) Milne is one of the reasons the saints won't win a flag anytime soon,Milne chokes on the big stage..
No contest imo..

Can't believe I'm about to say this.... here goes.

I love Milney. I loe that everyone gets pissed off when he does something aweomse and that everyone gets so angry and heated over him and that eevryone hates his guts and calls him a rapist. After four years of wihnging "Oh shut up, leave him alone" I think to myself now how funny it all is.

Think about it, we're talking about a human being who is universally hated with the exception of St Kilda fans. I mean - we're talking about a St Kilda player, not a Collingwood player. It's pretty friggen hilarious.

Anyway, back on topic. I love what Milney does for this team HOWEVER I have to admit after Saturday that it really is a fact that he simply does ont stand up in big games. I can try and make an argument that he kicked an important goal in the final quarter against Geelong or something a few weeks ago but fact is the game was over before he had that shot for goal and he did miss one or two slightly before him.

By the way, I would like to point out before the usual suspects try and quote my post and say "This was from a St Kilda supporter by the way, this is gospel according to all of them" - this is ONE ST KILDA SUPPORTER'S OPINION! I know a lot of my fellow St Kilda supporters will not agree with me. Fine.

EDIT - I am such a ******** - I forgot to relate this to the topic. having said all that, I have to concede that Milne is not even in the top TEN greatest forward pockets of all time.

Good post from a Saints fan.

Milne can play. It's stupid to suggest otherwise. he's a quality player but he's nowhere near an all time best type status. His ex coach will tell anyone that will listen (actually just anyone) that he generally doesn't perform when it matters most.

Daicos is comfortably in the all time best catagory - not just for small forwards but for footballers.

Le Cras will be AA small forward this year.

Are we seriously comparing Milne to daicos?

Now this is seriously hilarious. Milne is light years behind the master in terms of talent and effect on the game. Daicos is the best Collingwood player of the last 50 years. Milne wouldnt be in the best St Kilda team of the last 50 years.

One premiership between them ....

Is there no correlation between small forwards & AFL premierships?
Long time since Kevin Bartlett played AFL footy, in fact never !!

The correlation is when Daicos went back to a forward role Collingwood won the flag they couldn't win when he was a B&F midfielder.

Daicos invented the grubbing kick at goal, like all greats he was ahead of his time and since then this approach to angle goals has become part of the game.

What has Milne brought to the game that will last once he is gone?

Milne was fine on the weekend.

Kicked one and had a hand in another goal kicked out of our total of 6 or 7?

Good result from a small forward who's team got smashed.

As a small forward he obviously has to be opportunistic especially with the amount of pressure the Collingwood team was putting on the Saints.

He took his only chance of the day with a good snap goal.

Opportunistic is roving packs, finding space to nab a mark, tackling hard etc.

Opportunistic is not sitting in the goal square waiting for a handball over the top, nor is it sneaking a cheap goal from a lesser profile tram-mate to pad out your stats.
