Just wondering if someone could let me know a little about the Moyston / Willaura Pumas Football club?

Im wondering what there team was like last year?

Is it a younger team?

Do they have any footballers from ballarat uni at the club?

Have a mate from uni intrested in have a kick there this year and im keen to find out a bit about the club in hope of joining him there.

Also what is the quality of the M&DFL compared with the Lexton Plains, Wimmera, Horsham and North Central Football League?

Thanks

How does that Glenn Wilson go I used to play with him when he was a skinny young kid, good skills, loved a hard ball. He still around...

Moyston / Willaura were the big imrovers of last year. Prioir to that they really struggled. They recruited well last year and won seven to eight games and were right in the hunt for finals. They have a very young team which is good for future development. Age from 18 to 24. Not too many over this age. All the boys get on really well and are very social.
Don't know if they have any players from last year that went to uni in Ballarat but there may well be this year. They have several players that travel from Ballarat to play. They have recruited well this year building on their spine. Wimmera is stronger than M&DFL, although there are some clubs in the league that have quality footballers including Moyston / Willaura. If your interested buzz back. I have some contacts. I would recommend the club. Brand new facilities at Moyston which are top class. good grounds and atmosphere.

That sounds alright, will have a chat to this mate and see what he thinks.

How many pubs are there in Moyston, how far is it from Stawell?

One pub (the clubrooms)

10 minutes from Ararat and 20 minutes from Stawell.

Always plenty of people driving back and forth from both towns.

Ok, they might have seen a big improvement last year, but lets put it into some perspective.

2006 Finished 10th (last) with 1 win and 17 losses with 37.03%
2007 Finished 7th with 7 wins and 10 losses and 1 draw with 76.54%

The 2 games that they played during the year against the premiers
RND 6 Tatyoon 32.21 d Moyston 7.9
RND 15 Tatyoon 33.16 d Moyston 7.6

They are huge thumpings in anyones language!!! They obviously have a long way to go to be seen viewed as a serious threat in the MDFL.

Oh i agree bighawk, a long way to go. I understand they have high apsirations on neing in the finals race this year.

Big losses to Tatyoon last year but lets be honest everyone got smashed by Tatyoon last year.

Improvers yes!.....but not the biggest improvers. Hawkesdale/Macarthur and Caramut came from the bottom four to play in a Grand Final and Preliminary respectively.

The Pumas have along way to go especially with discipline on the ground.

The pumas lost to Hawkesdale/Macarthur by seven points and 16 points last year. Not bad considering Hawkesdale/Macarthur played in the grand final.

I think you will find on ground discipline will improve this year with a new culture being developed. They used to have a losing attitude but that has turned around with the realisation they are in the hunt. They been down for a long time and are finally having some success. I think the long standing members of the team including behind the scenes people deserve to taste success. I hope they continue to improve this year.

Yes i agree, they are not too bad those two narrow losses.......but when Hawkesdale/Macarthur got their full compliment together they went to another level during the finals........and will more than likely go to another level this year as well.

The Pumas best result for 2008 would be to make the finals.......considering Rovers, Worndoo/Mort, Pens, WLB and to a lesser extent Glen/Dunk are struggling for numbers and quality, this looks to be a realistic goal!!

As for the on field discipline, yes this can change with winning....no doubt!
But a couple of blokes there are serial offenders, and unless they pull their heads in, the rest of the team will suffer.....Hopefully they will mature before it starts to cost the Pumas games.......their bad discipline did not matter when they were losing, but now it could be costly!

How does that Glenn Wilson go I used to play with him when he was a skinny young kid, good skills, loved a hard ball. He still around...

yeah he still floats around, dont know if its the same wilson we're talkin bout, cos the glen wilson i know hasnt got a hard ball in his life, an his got the skills of well,, glen wilson. ... top bloke though

Anybody know of any practice games that have been organised? Or what numbers have been like for intra-club matches?
Glen/Dunk have one against Old Collegians in Warrnambool on the 15th March......Penshust's ex-coach Jay Everall is assistant coach at Collegians.

The Rams have lost quite a few players and it will be interesting to see how they line-up!

Gone from the Ram's list last year are Darroch, Ben Prentice, Stewart, Coote, Kohn, Hammond, Kent, Withers, Tom Blackwell, Hatherall, Cox and probably Jackson......question marks on Ewing, Adams as well!!

All regular senior players last season.

Picked up someone young blokes from Hamilton, but have lost plenty of their better players from the past few years.

holmes and neate from hawkesdale, how do the fair, what possie did the play, did they have much impact in the GF, thanks

there is matt and blake neate......matt plays mid/forward.....ordinary in the gf.....reasonable during the year as a second string onballer......did kick a couple of goals in each of the qualifying and second semi finals, but generally did not have any real impact. Not sure of his age but pace is not a big attribute although he reads the play ok. Kicked 17 goals for the season

Adam Holmes was injured in the qualifying final and missed the next two games before playing in the gf. I don't know much about him, but he certainly did not set the world on fire. Not sure if he was fully fit in the gf though. Played mainly down back on the last line of defence.
