Dont see how you could open it under water with thousands of pounds of pressure bearing down on it.
But whaddiknow!
Actually, very valid point.

I have no idea then (clearly lol).

people are all about the experience, but that tiny sub would not have given much of an experience imo. i would rather control a small sub from the safety of the ship and see it all.
Good Instas getting in and out. Rich people wanting their Bezos moment.

It’s also so hard to wrap your head around it.

Like how did they not have more failsafes and shit, knowing full well that if something goes wrong they’re absolutely stuffed. Alternately if I drop my wallet off a pier it’s gone, I’m not even considering trying to get it.

Anything in the ocean is just obscenely difficult.

:0) Now phantom, come on, your going in the drink for your wallet bro...
A pier is just a few meters from the shore.
Unless of course, your rich.

I have literally zero interest in exploring the deep sea nuh uh it ain't for me
Zero interest in space either, I'm staying here on land thank you very much! :)

I’m genuinely not, it’s lost to Triton and his crew. if it’s copped a bit of tow or rip or whatever my search area is now enormous. That’s sort of what I mean, not having a gps or whatever on this submersible is absolutely insane.

I agree. No GPS? Pinga? You know like shit they have on all commercial aircraft?
Its not hard.
Seems the company that made the thing wasn't too concerned about safety.

It’s absolutely insane to me.

Like even if you can locate the sub the chances of getting it up are slim, without locating it you’ve got absolutely no chance. At this point I’d be shocked if they ever locate that sub tbh.

it took like 70 years to find the actual Titanic
Yep. It’s like 6% of the ocean floor has been accurately mapped, almost all of it close to shores.

We have a better map of the actual ****ing universe than we do of the ocean floor. It is the literal unknown.

So the company refused to pay for a viewpoint that could withstand the required depth of 4000 meters, having one that could only manage 1,300, and used carbon fiber hull, which shatters at that depth. And they fired the guy that raised this issue?

Yeah, gotta be an implosion. They would have been turned into sludge immediately. At least it would have been quick. Feel for the teen kid the most.

The one I feel the most for is the 19 year old kid, possibly talked into going into it with his dad and what 19 year old is going to care about the dangers of it?

I did some very questionable things as a 19 year old involving vehicles once everyone had their license for a bit. An opportunity to go and see the titanic is so slim I doubt the kid even thought much about the dangers of it.
