For those playing at home, each 10m of depth is approximately one additional atmosphere of pressure.
Yeah, so if it is stuck on the ocean floor and they do locate it, what are they gonna do? It's not like a diver can go down and open the hatch and they all swim to safety.

They really can't do anything. Only 2-3 other subs in the world can reach such depths and none of them could help drag it up or probably attach a tether anyway

This is the bit that im not sure about.

If you pretend that the thing is in tact, they have oxygen and can be saved and if you then assume there is a vehicle that can go that deep and is powerful enough to tow it up, the ascent would still be incredibly dangerous.

Like in my stupid neaderthal brain im like "why dont they have a floaty thing attached to a looooooong bit of cable with a GPS beacon and light that they can just release if it goes **** up so a boat with a winch could just come and get them" but at those depths pretty much nothing works the way we think it does.

One atmosphere is the pressure at sea level. The ocean floor is 4000 metres deep where the Titanic is. So the pressure is 400 x atmospheric pressure. If you where exposed to this you would be crushed in a micro second.
This is exceptional "dumb it down for me" work. Thanks.

Cant they just pull themselves up to the surface by their bootstraps?
Perhaps they should get up at 5am, meditate and go for a run, then start work at 6am.

If they were more mindful and worked harder they'd be able to succeed, it's in that book about being successful sonit must be true.

Clearly they're being too lazy

Did the CEO have a deathwish? He would have known about all the safety issues and still jumped on board.
probably enjoys the thrill of deep sea diving, seems to be enough info out there already that he would rather take risks and reap the rewards than to never try anything.

He still could have had his stupid tourist sub that wasn't in jeopardy of being crushed by it's destination. The only potential reward was saving a bit of money.

There are plenty of people that think they're smarter than the experts because they have more money.

Donald Trump says hi

Yep he was. Amazing the hubris of some people in the presence of mother nature.
The irony of travelling in a tin can to the bottom of the ocean to visit to the most infamous modern symbols of humanity's hubris over nature.

What has always shocked me is that during these ocean rescue ‘projects’, we never hear of oceanic wildlife interfering with rescue attempts.

Surely all the noise, splashing, etc that is made during the searches would attract sharks, whales, etc and it would interfere with the rescue attempts, but you never hear of it.

Even if they are found I wouldn't be surprised if their are only 4 survivors.

Tin can would probably have been safer.

They used carbon fiber, not aware of any other deep sea vessels that do

Apparently lateral pressure it stands up well against, hence F1 cars are built out of it.
Dosen't do so well under pressure, apparently.
Who Knew?!
C.E.O I imagine would say "well, you gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelette right?"

They didn't certify it for repeat journeys to the depth of the titanic either.

Didn't certify it at all as far as I can tell

Just went lets do something experimental to save money and charge people heaps for the experience
