After 8 long years we finally just delisted Matt Thomas. Can we please not replace him with probably the only guy in the AFL who's dumber on the field than Thomas is?

EDIT: Just saw the Carlton guy's comments. If this is the first you've heard of this rumour, you're probably not very good at your job.

"It's part of the brand that you want to grow. You want to be able to attract quality people to your football club," Hinkley said.

qual·i·ty

/ˈkwälətē/

Noun
  1. The standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something: "quality of life".

I'd love Robinson. Would be a great fit for our squad imo. Stuff the 'back up plan'. I want all three of those targets. I dont understand the criticism of him. People wax lyrical about how great Moore, Pittard, P Stewart are but seem aghast if we get Robinson, whos output is significantly better than all of the above. This would be a very very good signing if we can get him here.
Completely agree. His style, age and experience fit right in with our profile. Averages nearly 20 disposals a game, has a good combination of speed and strength, is a good tackler and decent mark for his size.

Also IMO he is due to take his game to another level. I thought it would have been this year under MM, but under Hinkley/Burgo he would SMASH it.

He would be my most preferred option out of him, Polec and White.

Cannot STAND Mitch Robinson. He has some talent, but with all this talk of a "no dickheads" policy at our club now...

Gus (or maybe Trengove) is seen as a dickhead by many opposition supporters. Doesn't mean they are to us. Doesn't mean Robinson is for Carlton or will be for us... still might be to opposition supporters.

I think their is a big difference between a Robinson and a Fevola when it comes to dickhead factor.
I have Robinson more as an idiot in an entertaining way who occasionally does something stupid. On field though he busts his gut and I would expect him to be a good trainer. Yeah not who I pick for my best mate but I suspect there would be times as a team mate that he would make me laugh and during a game you know he will go hard at the ball and the body.

Feel free to show me the equivalent pic for Gus or Trengove:

It has nothing to do with him being a dickhead on the field - hell, if Heath Shaw was younger I'd be all about getting him into the team.

I would like to get Robinson in as well, wonder what Carlton would want in exchange?

Carlton desperately need a key forward or key defender so you would suspect they are after Butcher. I am confident we wouldn't give up pick 13 for Robinson, our trading has been smarter than that for a number of years now and Ken doesn't look like the type to do desperate trades.

Now IIRC I think Trengove got into a lot of shit with a taxi and or cab driver during one of his breaks in his first season.
Gus I dont think people ever thought off field he was a ****head, just thought the gus on the field was a **** head.

Have Port ever done a trade with Collingwood Mick?
Mick could well be miffed about losing Mith.

1996 when he was at West Coast.

The AFL gave compo picks 1&24, 2&25, 3&26 and 4&27 for 4 uncontracted players that Port picked up. Port couldn't control them and they were only given out if 4 players were recruited. They were awarded in reverse 1996 premiership order so if we got someone from the premiers North they got 4&27 and if we got someone from the Bulldogs who finished 15th they would get 1&27. Fitzroy disappeared at the end of 1996.

So after we got Heuskes, Primus ( some BS he was tied into Brisbane after Fitzroy merger) and Wanganeen, 1&24 compo picks were left. We tried to get Buckley and Chris Grant, but failed.

WCE wanted Gardiner with pick 1 so they technically got pick 1&24 compo for Downsborough and technically they traded Brayden Lyle and Shane Bond for pick 57, however it was a package deal trade.

Not too sure this one is going ahead but we do want the White trade to happen.

Off topic and rehashing old ground, but am pretty sure Buckley, on leaving Port, said he would come back to Port when/if it made it to the AFL, he might have played in a few premierships if he was true to his word. Even if he stayed at Brisbane his premiership record would have been better than zero.
Wangas was our best recruit with Primus a close second, pity about Hueskes he didn't realise his considerable potential for reasons we won't go into.

Can't see a trade being done with Carlton unless it's skewed heavily in their favour.

Really... we're basing opinions off a picture that appears to be of an altercation at a crowded music festival, where half the people around him are probably blazed and want to take a swing a footy player?

Therefore he is a "dickhead"?

But you were happy to entertain the idea for having Jurrah on our list?

This may be the worst conversation I've ever read on these boards.

Anyway, I think I've decided I hope we take Jurrah, Colquuquoquouhouun and Prismall.

Not trying to bag you HW (btw did you change your profile name?? :) ), but if random snaps were taken of Jurrah during his altercations that didn't show him in a positive light would he be "dickhead" too?

We're entitled to our opinions, but that pic (or the one with him and Betts) isn't enough to put me off his ability. Who knows what his character is like, but I have faith in Kern doing his homework. :thumbsu:

I wanted Jurrah because he was extremely talented, far moreso than Robinson.

His altercation was also a private family matter that got out of hand. I jumped off the train as soon as other problems started coming up (drink driving, etc.)

I've watched Port players be hounded by heroes while out in town and be professional enough to walk away. Robinson couldn't do it at a festival with cameras everywhere.

Edit: And yup, I did change my username :)

Edit 2: With Jurrah, we wouldn't have had to give up anything. With Robinson, we do.

One off incidents by over-cashed up young blokes is one thing.
We test boundaries in our youth, arguably we're biologically driven to do so.
But if we've got the brains to be fit to survive, we generally learn to back off a little.

Can't compare Trengove having a run in with a cabbie in his first year to Robinson to Heath Shaw, you may as well compare him to the poster boy fool at the extreme end of the spectrum - Fevola. Serial and repeat offenders are what people generally mean by 'dickheads'. Dale Garlett over in WA is allegedly well on the way to becoming one. Jack Darling I think had A nasty incident associated with him pre-draft and may have grown up fast, well done if that's the case - there's that one-off vs chronically intractable idiot example again. Those with legitimate medical conditions thrown in that also make you very difficult to deal with (eg Shaw's ADHD with ongoing meds) well that's unfortunate but it counts against you.

Carr having a go at Roo well we weren't there were we nor heard what was said, if that was the incident mentioned. On field Carr and Hardwick had controlled aggression and footy brain. So did Byron Pickett as well. These guys shouldn't even be part of this discussion.

Where would you put Robinson on 'the spectrum of dickhead' ?
Where would you put him on 'the spectrum of footy brain' relative to a lineup of hard inside mids say Thomas - Logan - Carr - K Jack - J Selwood ?

That is all.
