Mitchell Marsh

Well its not based on his actual output as a cricketer, so what else? 21 tests, 35 innings as a top six bat and an average of 21.74 and a first class average of 30.07. In what universe is that worthy of the amount of chances this bloke has been given?

I just need to know how is it patrilineal ? ..... I wasn’t arguing about the stats.

Look, who knows either way? I'm being facetious in general. But when you combine his output and the fact that cricket and sport in general is very much a boys club its not a completely obscure conclusion.

  1. Marsh in Sayers out Bird stayes MOM against NSW today

Australia squad for third Test: Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird

He hasn't been bowling... His only just started back bowling at shield level.. it's a joke as the selectors have a man love crush for Mitch Marsh. Yes I understand we're playing at Perth and it's a placement pitch, but seriously what does Maxwell have to do to get selected.
Let's see when it comes to the Sydney test to see if they pick a spinning all rounder like Maxwell.

Good to see him making runs in the shield, but the issues with his batting technique won't be fixed in a few months.
Jack Wildermuth is more worthy of selection than daddy's boy Mitchell on form and overall statistics if they so desperately want their Andrew Flintoff circa 05
I like Wildermuth more than Marsh as a long form batsman, but he's got a way to go before he should be considered.
Surprised as he has only had two Shield matches back bowling since his shoulder surgery and was on limited overs in the first match. But the selectors love the Marsh brothers so in a way not surprised :drunk:
Apparently he hadn't bowled for 6 months before the QLD game, so he's only bowled 3 or 4 spells really. That's fine... if you're warming up for the big bash.

Maxwell's season.

Maxwell is batting as well as I've ever seen him bat. Can't believe he's not in the side. Smith never uses the 5th bowler anyway. I'm pretty sure 5-10 overs of Maxwell's spin would be just as threatening as 5-10 overs of Marsh on a lifeless track. Andrew McDonald would be filthy he wasn't born 10 years later. He'd be picked at 6 every match in the current climate.

Not in Perth. Maxwell would struggle to get you or me out. Marsh would be much more likely to get a wicket or two.

All good and all but Marsh is in for his bowling and if they were to decide to stay with six batsmen (which would be the correct thing) they'd just give Handscomb another chance.

I wonder what Mitch Marsh would look like if he had have been dropped when he first should’ve (in 2015, about 10 tests in) and gone back to shield cricket to work on his deficiencies for a prolonged period of time before they brought him back into the side. He probably would’ve been a decent test all rounder by now. They seem to want to rush him back as soon as he has one good knock in shield cricket and hope that he has magically become a test level batsman. I hope he succeeds this time around but I can’t see it happening right now. Not sure why they can’t leave him at WA for the rest of the summer, let him make a ton of runs and build his confidence before coming back into the team.

He only just started bowling too. Is he even fit enough to bowl more than 5-10 overs in an innings?

What he needs is time away from the lime light perfecting his game (especially his batting) for WA and consistently performing well for a period of time.
The selectors are seriously ******* him up by selecting him when he isn't even ready.
100%

Maybe he'll come back in and prove everyone wrong, but in my eyes. 2017/18 and 18/19 should have been knuckle down in the longer form and we'll reassess where his FC cricket is at for the 2019 Ashes. Play the ODI's cause he is good in that and format.

I'm sure he can make it as a test cricketer but I'm also sure constantly throwing him back into the headlights is not the way to do. He's still only 27 when we go Englang next. If he is in the right form and got his issues sorted he can still have a huge career.

Its a stupid obsession and he shouldn't have played anywhere near that many tests but its not because of his dad.
The thing is the guy who should be the #1 in line batsmen is Glen Maxwell. Whether he is or not who knows, but I don't see how he can't be. And as dinky as his off spinners can be, he can still send down some overs.

Maxwell's bowling in Perth will be party pies at absolute best though.

I don't think we should be picking our #6 for his bowling at this stage, especially since Maxwell/Marsh will probably only throw down a few overs at best, knowing Steve Smith.
