Mitchell Wallis & Thomas Liberatore

Here is a brief report on how they went yesterday.

Mitch Wallis - Needs a haircut. Badly. Thought he was OK early, without being terrific. Some of his inside work and use of the hands was good, although has a tendency to 'bomb' the ball out of the congestion at times when I think he could've been a little cleaner or more direct. Really came into his own late in the game where his running power was evident. Continually getting to spots to receive the ball, and generally using it well. Kicked a nice goal too. I think he'll do his best work at AFL level as a link man, rather than starting in the centre square like he did today.

Tom Liberatore - I think he had a better day than Mitch. Some of his work by hand was outstanding. Just senses where people are moving to, and is very creative releasing others into space. His field kicking was very good, and I thought he moved fairly well. He's not super quick, but he's certainly got quite a few yards on his old man. Was good inside, and laid some good tackles too. He's going to be a player.

I have only heard good reports about these two and would be very surprised, if the dogs would be able to get them both under the f/s son without doing some trading. Since both of them are expected to go top 30, and if the dogs do finish top 6 next year they would have draft 25 and 45.

It is possible GC17 could nominate both of them in the first round, or another club may even nominate them, if they do this the Dogs would give the 1st round pick for one and have to miss out on another unless they could manage to trade for another first round pick.

Cant we just use our first available picks i.e first and second rounder?

we can give up our 1st and 2nd rounders to get both. If our first pick is <20 (finish 8th place) we may only have to sacrifice our 2nd round and 3 round picks.

Here we go again

Can these rules be stickied on the board?

I can't see any problem Falconeyed:

"the club that nominated the father-son player must use its next available selection if it wishes to retain its hold on that player"

So if the first round pick is already gone then the second round pick is our "next available selection".

I would be very surprised, if would be able to get them without doing any trades, particularly if you keep saying they are really good.

I think you have caught on that we only need to use our NEXT AVAILABLE pick but just to clear something up. The father son nomination is done BEFORE the trade period.

nah mate....if we want them both then we can take them both, no need to trade, they will end up costing us picks 25 and 45 or something in that ball park. I'm looking forward to seeing them play in the U18 champs in the next couple of weeks just see how good they are. But the reports are very good, Wallis is the Metro skipper too.

This is just what we need - some father-son selections that are passionate about playing with the dogs. This is bloody great!
We look like we'll be able to ride out the 'Comprimised Drafts' storm pretty smoothly.
