Also Kyle Hendricks:

Dude is so humble. He’s struggled in some starts this year but as you can see, been fantastic in a lot of starts.

Been showing my boy Kyle Hendricks videos, as Hendricks takes the time to explain his pitch grips and how he pitches on Youtube. He gets to throw a changeup in summer baseball this year (U-14s), so I'm trying to find some good videos on changeup grips and pitching to help out.

The Tigers enjoying a decent stretch

Haven't even been in mathematically possible territory for a while

Margin 1.5 games now between Tigers and Twins for last wildcard spot

Tigers win from 0-4 today v Kansas City, Twins lose after being ahead against Cleveland

Might peter out of course but it's mid-September and we're still in the hunt, so big improvement.

I'd forgotten that move was happening at the end of the season. Where are you playing next year again?

Sacramento, for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 years.

First series in Sacramento is against the Cubs.

Absolutely bonkers hitting season.

Ohtani 50/50 today. 6for6. 4 extra base hits. Was a triple shy from the cycle (got tagged out at 3 for trying it)

Judge has 53 Home Runs. He hit 62 in 2022.

Poor Judge would easily be all time best run. Instead he’s playing in the time of Ohtani.

Bobby Witt Jr on the other hand is averaging .331, has 32 HRs and 108 RBIs with 30 Stolen bases.

Yet Ohtani will be known for a better season.

What a muppet.

Plus need to be a 50 homer 50 stolen bases for MLB to turn a blind eye to being a degenerate gambler ;)

Couldn't wait for these final 7 or 8 games of their season before letting loose...

Their last game is a week from monday so couldn't even wait that long before letting loose. Just baffles me.

Sometimes all you can do is shake your head...

My understanding is that teams will generally require their players to report to the stadium by 10am for a 1pm first pitch game, which means that Abrams gave himself two hours from the end of his bender to the time he was meant to report to freshen up.

Back in the 80s, he probably could have done a few lines between the casino and the stadium and nobody would have batted an eyelid.

If the Mets make it to the post-season, they might be without their Japanese pitcher, RHP Kodai Senga, who has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season with tightness in his right triceps (on his pitching arm). Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Senga is out until the end of the regular season, but the Mets still think he may be a candidate for the postseason roster should the Mets qualify through the wildcard, as the injury is not regarded as too serious.

The Chicago White Sox have endured one of the worst seasons in MLB history in 2024 and they are looking to bolster their scouting department to avoid such futile seasons in the future. The White Sox have hired David Keller to run their international scouting department, with Keller being given the role of special assistant to the GM. Keller had been a scout with the Mets from 2009 until he accepted the opportunity with the White Sox.

There remain only three games left at the Oakland Coliseum after the Yankees swept the Athletics at the venue over the weekend. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the MLB and the Oakland Athletics intend to bolster stadium security for their last game in Oakland this coming Thursday (Friday morning, Australian time) with players and staff instructed not to remain on the field post-game in case of fan violence. It was reported that Oakland manager Mark Kotsay intended to give a speech to the fans post-game but has been told not to do that.

Yet Ohtani will be known for a better season.

Ohtani has gone 13 for 17 with five homeruns and 13 RBI in his last four games, together with six stolen bases.

Interestingly, Ohtani is currently ranked equal third by fWAR (8.0) behind Judge (10.4) and Witt Jr (10.1), tied with Gunnar Henderson, and Juan Soto is fifth (7.9).

By bWAR, Ohtani is only fifth (8.1) behind Judge (10.0), Witt Jr (9.4), Henderson (8.8) and Jarren Duran (8.5).

Not sure if those take into account the outcome of today's games.

Blackmon is a rarity in this day and age of baseball, being a one-club man after being drafted by the Rockies out of Georgia Tech in the second round of the 2008 draft. Blackmon broke into the majors in 2011 and earned his first All-Star nod in 2014 when he hit .288/.335/.440 with 19 homeruns and 72 RBI. He peaked in 2017-2019, being named an All-Star on three consecutive occasions and earning MVP votes in 2017 for a season where he hit .331/.399/.601, including 37 homeruns, 14 triples and 104 RBI.

Blackmon had a span between 2016 and 2020 where he hit in excess of .300, except in 2018 where his average dipped to .291. He has a chance to finish his career with over 1,800 career hits (he currently has 1,797) and a lifetime slashline of .292/.352/.479.

Unfortunately, Blackmon has only been part of two post-season runs with the Rockies, in 2017 and 2018. The Rockies lost to the Diamondbacks in the 2017 Wild Card, where Blackmon didn't get a hit (but was credited with an RBI) and the Rockies beat the Cubs in the 2018 Wild Card (with Blackmon going 1-3 with a walk) before losing in the Division Series to Milwaukee with Blackmon going 1-12.

Blackmon has a career WAR of 20.8, but his .249/.320/.398 slashline in 2024, combined with the fact that he's now a full-time DH for the Rockies, means that he is only slightly above a replacement value player in 2024 (0.1 WAR).
