Detroit make the postseason after 10 years and trading their best player at the deadline. That's called failing upwards
Unexpected. Of all the seasons. Meant to be a rebuilding year. Take what you get.

Javier Baez being on the injury list is the reason. Guy is absolutely trash. He’s a cancer. Glad he isn’t apart of the postseason push

So if Arizona finishes on 89 wins and Atlanta wins tomorrow do Atlanta clinch wildcard regardless if they lose the 2 vs Mets?
The MLB website is saying the Braves are 1 win away for qualification.

So the Braves stand a game ahead of both the D-backs and Mets in the battle for the National League’s final two Wild Card spots. Atlanta can clinch a postseason berth with either a win over the Royals on Sunday, or a D-backs loss to the Padres.

Even if the Braves clinch, there is a chance they would still have to play Monday’s doubleheader against the Mets, if the Mets have not yet clinched. New York holds the tiebreaker over Arizona.

So Arizona will qualify only if one team wins both games of tomorrows double header.
With the Wild Card series starting the next day, whoever wins the 1st game tomorrow clinches a wild card so will probably just rest all their starters and pitch a bullpen game in game 2 (using only relievers for an inning or 2, and starters for an inning that are due for their sideline session between starts).

Big advantage to Braves or Mets over D'backs who can only watch on and pray.

Braves are going with their best pitcher Chris Sale in game 1 which messes them up for the WC series. Gonna be very tough for any of those 3 teams to make a run at it
It would be an all timer if the Mets stuff this up though.

As for my mob the Nats, there's talent there but the coaching is suspect. If we somehow can sign Soto we'll be in business but even without him there's hope with some more homers and better baserunning.

The American League playoffs are set.

Houston Astros will host the Tigers in the first ALWC series, with the first game starting at 2.32pm ET on Tuesday, 1 October 2024 (2 October 2024, Australian time). In the other ALWC series, the Orioles will host the Royals. Both Wildcard series are best of three, with all games being hosted by the higher seeded team (Astros and Orioles).

The winner of the Royals @ Orioles Wildcard series then plays the Yankees in a best of five ALDS, with the Yankees hosting games 1 and 2, the other team hosting games three and (if required) four, and then the Yankees hosting game five (if required).

The winner of the Tigers @ Astros Wildcard series then plays the Guardians in a best of five ALDS, with the Guardians hosting games 1 and 2, the other team hosting games 3 and (if required) 4, then the Guardians hosting game 5 (if required).

The two winners of the ALDS series then meet in the ALCS in a best of seven series to determine which team represents the American League in the World Series.

The National League playoffs are not currently set. We know that the Dodgers (#1 seed) and the Phillies (#2 seed) will host the first two games of the NLCS, and that the Brewers (#3 seed) and the Padres (#4 seed) will host the NLWC games. The fifth and sixth seeds are not yet determined.

Currently, the Braves and Mets are tied for the second NL Wildcard spot, with the Diamondbacks currently outside the playoffs. If the season finishes as is, then the Diamondbacks would not make the playoffs because they lose tiebreakers to the Braves and Mets.

The Monday double-header between the Braves and Mets decides the winner of the season series between the two teams. The Braves must win one of the two games to secure the tiebreaker over the Mets, as they currently lead the season series 6-5. The Mets must sweep the Braves to secure the #5 seed and travel to San Diego. If the Mets swept the Braves, then the Braves would be eliminated from the postseason and the Diamondbacks become the sixth seed (with a trip to Milwaukee as their reward). If the Braves and Mets split the series, then the Diamondbacks miss out altogether. If the Braves sweep the Mets, then the Mets will miss the playoffs.

Effectively, the Diamondbacks are relying on the Mets to sweep the double-header against the Braves, else they are eliminated from postseason contention.

Ohtani missed out on the NL Triple Crown by 4 points. Had to get a hit in all 4 ABs, only got 1.

Impressive season.
.310 batting average, 54 HRs, 197 hits, 59 steals.

Missed a 60/60 by just 6 HRs and 1 steal.

Easily the best player ever in our generation.

Sad, because honestly though Trout would be it. But injured every year

Mets And Braves is a Game 162 scenario? Just like Tampa Bay in 2011.

He could still be available by game 3 of the Padres series (if they make it). If Atlanta loses both to Mets tomorrow they don't deserve to make it, not with 3 losses in a row to close out the season.

The Padres rested Arráez on the Saturday game to ensure he got the batting title.

I think at some point especially if he tears his UCL again the Dodgers will tell Ohtani to retire from pitching and just focus on his hitting.
