Mod. Notice Moderation of the WCE Board - Request for Feedback

It’s been quite some time since we’ve opened up a thread for some direct feedback on the moderation of this board. But since Biggie and HoneyBadger35 as the most recently appointed mods here are nearing their 5th anniversary it seems time to do so

We’re open to any feedback but whilst constructive criticism is welcome, mod bashing or abuse is not, so please keep views respectful. Or at least partially

Without trying to steer debate in a particular direction, these are some of the issues I am keen on getting poster’s views on :

• Derailment of threads with prolonged circular arguments between two or more posters
• Extensive off topic posting, often times referred to as shit posting, in threads - something that led to the creation of the ultimately unpopular dump thread
• Posters who repeatedly, and sometimes exclusively, post about the same topic without adding anything new to their argument
• How welcome outside (non-WCE supporters) posters should be made to feel on our board, especially if their views whilst arguably accurate are critical of the club or players

These are suggestions only and there may be other issues you have that you are welcome to raise

For the record, during my 7+ years in this stint as a mod here and my time previous, the moderation of this board has purposely been relaxed, for want of a better word. Posters are given a fair bit of leeway to express their views as robustly as they feel fit and whether that posting is on topic or not

As for outside posters coming onto this board, they are welcome to do so provided they stay within the rules, even when their posts don’t have universal agreement from regular posters

This is your opportunity to have your say in an open forum to ask for a change in approach or to back the way this board has been moderated since before larrikin was appointed 15 odd years ago

But again, please remember, constructive criticism and not abuse

Jokes aside, you guys do bloody good and completely thankless work. I like that we're more welcoming than pretty much every club and it's in large part because of the tone you guys set.

I do think one or two posters (including one gatecrasher) are probably getting allowed to be too dogmatic too often, but it's a minor quibble. I'd rather us be too permissive than dickhead no opposition supporter tagging homers.

Also, can we permaban Dark Sharks? Thanks.

I've always found the modding to be spot on. Could maybe do with banning Freomaniac if any of his replies are to posts older than a day or two, but that aside, pretty good.

I'd like to thank all the mods for volunteering their time and doing a great job. I think the balance is very good and hits the relaxed line very well. I particularly like that opposition supporters are welcome, an intrusion from a third party can break the group-think that happens from time to time.

One thing that drives me nuts is when two posters derail a thread for a back and forward, tit for tat. Often one is talking out of their behind, but there are one or two posters who absolutely love to bait them and draw things out into a stupid dung-fight that benefits no-one.

Both posters should cop a ban for that type of activity, both the original person talking rubbish and the second for continuing an argument. This will hopefully encourage more use of the ignore function and save everyone else from having to read the garbage.

Also, misuse of "lose" and "loose" should be a one day ban.

Otherwise no complaints, love the way the board is moderated.

Same. But then again I don't carry on like an absolute flog so people who tend to approach the line of flogism may have a differing opinion. I only really seen banhammers in here for people who are behaving like blatant straight up tossbags who've deserved it.

Absolutely no issues at my end. Things got a bit crazy during covid but that was par for the course.

This board is the most moderated board on BigFooty. Kudos all round.

To follow up on Rowan18's point, bias/biased misuse should also see a ban.
