Letter from the President: Brand research project

President Dave Barham provides an update on the club's brand research project.
By essendonfc.com.au - 1 hr ago

To all our Fans and Members,

The Essendon Football Club has a proud history as one of the oldest clubs in the AFL and we have a strong recognisable brand.

We are conducting a preliminary research project which centres around the Essendon brand and its elements.

The research project is in its early phase. Members and supporters have been and will continue to be canvassed as part of this process, in addition to the engagement of multiple Essendon Football Club stakeholders.

We have a proud history of more than 150 years and a deep connection to our members and supporters. This is and will always be respected and embraced.

There is no immediate action to change the club logo or any elements of the club brand. This is a longer-term project with significant work to be completed.

We proudly recognise that our future legacy begins with our proud history.

We will always be called the Bombers.

- Dave Barham

Let's go old timey

Speaking of Old Timey our 1800s gurneys were initially Blue with a red sash (every team wore blue and teams were differentiated with socks and hats)

Would be fun to do a Sky Blue clash jumper with a red sash

Overall I like that logo but it only pops on a white background and the logo needs to be on the jumper which isn’t white

We're literally the only machine of war in the league. Surely our logo has to be brutal and war like when we face our enemies?
The other thing that gets overlooked is our mascot is mosquito! They have been way more lethal for people’s deaths than planes or probably for any other animal for that matter.

Perhaps Essendon could further its 'Spirit of Flight" by adopting and supporting an indigenous fauna and flora logo like the endangered Red Tailed Black Cockatoo and the Sturt desert pea. The latter is being used as an ANZAC day rememberance flower by indigenous peoples whilst the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo could be the start of an AFL club adopting, partnering and supporting the protection of Australian Fauna and flora through a variety of conservation organisations. Such a project going forward could open up all sorts of conservation marketing possibilities .... Dreamtime at the G profiling the Red and the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo for example. Surely all clubs could find a suitable fauna and fauna logo .... why there could be an indigenous Fauna and Flora round !!!!

Why not have a couple - flock of plumed Red Tailed Black Cockatoo mascots as well as Mossy Mosquito "flying" around ? Children would be naturally attracted by their endearing character. Perhaps a real Red Tailed Black Cockatoo could attend games and capture the admiration of all AFL supporters just like "Auzzie" of the West Coast Eagles notoriety.
