I agree with Hawks and Cats. Of the "interstate" teams Brisbane ha some tough ***** during the 3peat. The 2 Scotts, Johnson, Pike, Voss, J. Brown had and in Browns case have some balls as well as others.

well they have had tough periods but also warwick capper periods up north.

Tigers where super tough at times the best but also some seriously gay periods.

For consistent hard as nails footy North melbourne have to be top of the pile.

For the absolute hardest at any one time must be the hawks with Lethal.

Carlton however are about as tough as a nuns p!ss flaps.

I like how the title of the thread is about the most cowardly club HISTORICALLY yet even the OP fails to understand that

Historically, lock in Dawkthorn.
Present days, Melbourne (could be the Dawks still if you had of kept C.Brown :D:thumbsu:).

To be fair our team in the mid noughties were for the most part (well bar Kerr), exceptionally well disciplined on field.

Great attack on the ball and willingness to keep fighting back when losing (so genuine on field courage) but certainly not filled with hardcases.

Fremantle were the polar opposite. Undisciplined, lost many matches they should have won and in general let fans down when their moment came.
Yet they had players like Farmer, Josh Carr, Matt Carr, Soloman, Johnson, Headland, Black, Troy Cook and McManus. Most of which were more at home throwing the odd flying elbow or jumper punch that winning games of football.

Great pick of recent teams.

And outside of these guys had players who were genuinally hard at it when it came to the contest.

To go away from the OP's definition of tough, I would suggest the mid noughties Sydney team as a standout.

Apart from Bazzas odd brainfade (and the odd Goodes snipe), they were mostly fair if somewhat highly defensive. Mentally tough stoppage kings. A relatively hardnut but fair group who always competed with a never say die attitude. They also cannot be blamed for their time in the sun as the AFL's princess. The tides have turned quickly, as they do for all teams.

It would have to be supporters who are too gutless to include thier team in a poll :p

start a poll blues vs hawks and see who people vote for.

Everyone is already voting for the blues...its clear no other club would come within bow shot of your boys.:D

Blues have the talent just not the ticker or leadership.

Appoint a new coach. Someone not afraid of the pointy end of the game and you could win a flag.

Hardwick springs to mind. Look at the change in the tigers.

Hawks where soft as and then clarkson turned them around.

I reckon this is why the blues WILL go all out for Malthouse when he moves on. He is an angry bastard.

When your team plays in 8 frand finals in a row.....(and in the 80's to boot) you may gain an exemption. 22 games hardly constitutes a history of hardness.

Since you say you cannot compare the VFL and SANFL, why not compare the two sides on a platform that ensures equality, ie 1997-present,a that is the time period in which both clubs have been playing in the same league? You can conveniently omit the head-to-head match-up as well if you want.

Plus they had to get a Port player out of retirement to help them win their first flag in many years. Their cowardly tanking for draft picks couldn't do it alone.

Yes, the "Demolition Derby" went a long way to evening up the ledger.... long live Dale Kickett sorting out that muppet Phil Read!

Perhaps you will remember a "tough" experienced Captain in Woosha taking out a young player in Jess Sinclair? Real discipline there:rolleyes:

For a second there I thought I said mid noughties???

Woosh had his moments but he was also an exceptionally tough player, not just a sniper.

Anyway, it was not just the "demo derby" but a good couple of year period where Fremantle were regarded as an undisciplined rabble.

Both for your innability to close out games and be consistent with your onfield performances and for the "valiant" physical exploits of your players on (and in a couple of cases off) the field.

No Hawk option. Can't vote.

Imagine having your official instruct your coach to lay down in games for draft picks. Thanks Don :thumbsu:

Or needing a permed has-been to fire your boys up for a "line in the sand" match in an attempt to shake the soft tag.

The lack of representation after the Lloyd hit. Lots of talking tough of course, the mark of true cowards; but not a finger lifted.

Their coach Clarko actually ran away from Jimmy Buckley after cowardly shattering a young guys jaw and effectively ending his career.

Even the Hawk colours represent the very notion of fear and cowardice.

I'm torn on Malthouse. I agree about the toughness for the Blues but is he too old to get us one ?
I don't think our players are not tough but that extra 10% of grunt attitude makes a massive difference.

Pointless don't ya think ?
As soon as a Carlton option is put in the Lemmings like you jump off the cliff registering your vote.
Whoever is second probably is the true representative.

i know its hard to accept that overwhelming public opinion is that your club has laid down more times than a grey st curb walker but hey someone has to be first to bail out of a fifty fifty...and we all know who that club is.

we are the team that always lets u down
