Bottom right hand corner of the page.

I think your captain can claim a spud title as well. 0 votes in 95 games heading into this season.

think you are taking the tone of the thread the wrong way:confused: apart from l.brown;) i think everyone would consider the players mentioned as being worthy of alot more umpire recognition.
he's not up there yet but if maxwell can achieve another 200 games and just 6 brownlow votes i sure he would be happy to be called a brownlow spud:)

defenders?

Ryan Hargrave 153 games 0 votes, thats right he has never polled a vote. Underated by the media, opposition supporters and even the bloody umpires! If he hasn't polled a vote in the last three games then the umpires in charge should be removed from their positions.

It is really a case of "insert good backline player here"

Congratulations to Ryan Hargarve after a steller season earning AA squad nomination he has polled his first (and only) brownlow vote to remove himself from the most games for no votes club. Blake from saints and sam power from NM remain in no vote club though and special mention to another AA squad member Presti for gaining 1 vote this year.....why do backline players even get an invite.

Some may be aware that in 1976-1977, both field umpires gave their 3-2-1, so essentially potential votes were double what they are now. So in order to try and level the playing field, one may decide to count those votes as half value.

So, it transpires that Mick Malthouse garnered a single vote in 165 H&A games, but it coming in 1976 we count it as half a vote.
Hence his game average is 0.003 votes per game, the lowest of any player. Ryan Hargrave's recent duck breaking slots him into second at 0.0064/game.

Still better than having no average, 28 players have played in 100 eligible games without troubling the scorers.

On the other hand, a chap by the name of Alf Boniface, who played two games in 1940, managed three votes for an average of 1.50/game. The more useful stat being Haydn Bunton's 122 in 117 eligible games, for 1.04/game.

alipate carlile broke his duck against hawthorn on anzac day in his 157th game this year

david mckay got his first vote against melbourne this year in his 127th game. a quite special achievement for plodders given how much the umps would usually love a 'skillful' blonde winger/mid

The ever-useful AFL Tables site has a list (bottom right of this page).

Tom Lonergan is in the lead, with 0 votes in 150 games.

lonergan is a surprising one. not so much to see jamison, toovey, zac dawson, armfield and mcmahon on there

Defenders really get no love. Has one ever won a brownlow?
Well, pretty unrewarded position.

On the other hand: Few games of football are won by restricting the opposition from scoring (at least I get told quite often as a Freo fan) and to kick goals you need midfield service. So you could argue Brownlow votes are spread on some kind of reason...
