One of my biggest criticisms of the Lions midfield is they are too small and can get exposed against the big mids. Neale, McCluggage, Ashcroft, etc are all more midget sized with only Dunkley (and Berry on the wing) actually big. Yet reigning premiers we areAnd they crumbled in finals again coz they're too small as a midfield unit.

Yeah we spent a lot of years with Zorko and Bailey coming into the middle rotations and they are good but was just too small as a group at times. Dunkley was the big missing key and Rayner the few rotations makes a big difference on the balance. It's funny you say that it's the perfect example, coz I only thought the lions were a genuine flag chance when they added dunkley. Funnily enough, it's only then they started making grand finals. Berry and mcluggage aren't small either. It has a nice balance to it.
Powell is very decent, will only get better. FOS is still to be graded as he is 18 and played 0 games, Phillips is a COVID draft who knows? Maybe he's over his glandular and can start performing like a pick 3 (probably the only player under pressure) - he does finally look good at training though.Has there ever been a larger drop off in quality from 2 to 3 than on this list
Tim English
Mitchell Lewis
Isaak Rankine
Elliott Yeo
Zac Butters
Darcy Parish
Matt Rowell
George Wardlaw
Max King
Tom McCartin
Aaron Naughton is spoken about as some special generational key forwards
I agree with you on this. It's BF tongues are out n about.

Seen mills tag Bont few years back.prob he's best ive seen him play.
Mills a tough campaigner Shirley he's best spot is def mid .
Dean big Cox might get the best out of him.
I agree with you on this.
And don’t call me Shirley.
fair assumption.. Wasn't he an All Australian U18 defender?Showed promise but ultimately just peaked early. Hasn't really come on the way he was expected to.

Serong was our player of the finals in 22 @ 21yr and is only one derby medal from equaling the record( 4 derby medals) and his only 23.3 midfields that are overrated, Freo and port, brayshaw and serong and butters and rozee. They are too small and can't take it when the heat goes up in big games, finals etc
And then gold coast (individually might be ok, but as a group they fail every year, the Rowell Anderson and Miller combo).
All the whilst the Crows have been trying to lure him these pass 2 seasons , go figure.Ooh Harrison petty would have to be the spudliest player to get picked in the 22 every week.
player of the finals in a series you won one game and were completely uncompetitive the next week.Serong was our player of the finals in 22 @ 21yr and is only one derby medal from equaling the record( 4 derby medals) and his only 23.
He’s first final he had
30+d 16 contested @ 70%
10 clearances
6 tackles
And a goal
Brayshaw had 30+ kicked a goal in the finals but he is a different midfielder to serong he’s a two way running machine so a bit lighter frame.
I agree with you on butters his finals record is not much chop
Throughout his career, Jake Stringer has somehow managed to hype up most AFL commentators into an orgasmic frenzy whenever he’s near the ball.
He hasn't come on as most would think..fair assumption.. Wasn't he an All Australian U18 defender?
The package .Easy, Stringer. Next question

The continued fascination with Aaron Naughton is bewildering at best.
Closer to home, Connor Rozee gets talked up a lot, but I just don’t rate him as high as many do.
A League watching friend of mine and I have long held an NRL theory that players with long hair catch the eye moreso than their short cropped counterparts. Everything they do is exaggerated; their body movements, their change of direction, the impact when they get hit.
The summary of it is that it makes them look a more dynamic player, more courageous etc etc than they actually are. I swear blind the same goes for afl players and guys like naughton or Draper that have this big mane going down the back of their jersey get the same treatment
It says a fair bit about his off field activities that only GWS really wanted him. A bloke capable of 30 and 4 games should he red hot trade propertyNah Stringer genuinely has had many many game breaking star moments. It's the other less stellar stuff he struggles with.
He'd have one of the better career highlight reels in the league.
