Tom Papley.

Even Swans fans don't rate him for some reason I've never understood.

It's bizarre

From my club Gryan Miers. Has really come on from the last half of this year and through this year. Creative playmaker who makes good decisions consistently.

The perception on here is that he is a spud so that will take a while to change.

I feel like Lachie Hunter deserves a mention. He's been consistently good this year and he seems to get criticised more than he gets praised.

As much as I like Ed Langdon, Hunter has been the superior wingman for us.

Go on the Swans board and he gets canned a lot...

Not sure why really ..

Club boards can be weird (Luke Breust was trade bait on ours for about a decade) and I'm not familiar with the Sydney board...

but the fact that Tom Papley made the AA squad last year would suggest he is anything but underrated.

Quality player but last year he missed 6 games (subbed off in another), averaged 15 touches and kicked just 26 goals (and only 34 tackles) for the season. He was not in the top 40 goalkickers (with a poor defensive side) as an exclusive small forward.

Toby Greene kicked 11 more goals (and more of everything else) and didn't get in. Kozi Pickett kicked 13 more goals (50% more) and didn't get in. Brest kicked 40 goals (14 more) and didn't get in, as did Jack Ginnivan. Even Weightman, Zurhaar, Rankine, Elliot, etc. all kicked more goals.

Someone like Dylan Moore kicked the same amount of goals (26) but did so pushing up the ground, averaging over 20 possessions and nearly triple the amount of tackles but didn't get in.

He was not in the top 20 forwards of last season and still got picked so I doubt he is underrated (at least not by the AA selectors).

Fair point, since most people have no idea who he is. Little bloke, gets it sometimes. Runs fast.

Yep. Although he does get the ball more than 'sometimes'. Just proves again how underrated he is....

From Geelong it's clearly Cam Guthrie. B&F in 2020 when we were runners up and again in 2022 when we won the flag.

I reckon most people don't think of him as a top 30 mid on the comp despite being the best performed mid in the best performed team of the last 3 years. He gets about 1% of the attention that Dangerfield and Cameron get.

Rarely gets spoken about in the same ilk as bont , tracc etc but is up to his neck with those guys

Not sure what media you consume but he gets put over all the time on commentary as one of the best players in the competition (sometimes they say the best player in the league pound for pound). Better than Petracca and on a level with Bont, which would be top 5 in the competition,

Not sure with that perception. Stats wise he's in the top couple of players in the comp for scores per inside 50. People are taking notice

His little brother has come a long way too. From "why is he getting picked" to a genuinely good player. Without looking, I doubt the stats would say anything special but I notice that when Geelong defenders are under pressure they often kick to him, even when he is manned up or even 2 on 1. For most teams/players, this would typically result in a turnover and a score against whereas Zac often takes the mark cleanly and clears sensibly when he has no right to.

Jack Sinclair of St Kilda maybe?
