There seems to be a lot of talk about how the bookies always think Freo are just about to burst forth but they never do. What about the teams that are ALWAYS predicted to fail but never do?

Obviously I think the Swannies are the most underrated team: it doesn't matter whether the Swans finish first, second, third or fifth the "experts" (and the BigFooty experts) always predict that there's no way they'll make the Eight next season. It used to be frustrating but now it's just funny.

Is there a team as universally underestimated as the Swans?

This video sums up the AFL's communities opinion of the Swans

kangaroos.... simple

no one gives them a chance each year but every time they make the top 8 and a few times the top 4.

seemingly low on talent yet each year finish higher than more fancied opponents

Every single year it is Adelaide, Sydney and North.

From what im hearing for next season, Port and West Coast are underrated as well.

And Freo, Carlton and Richmond are overrated as usual.

Why do you think this? Picking a bottom 4 team to finish bottom 4 doesn't make them underated.

Underestimate, no. Loathed, yes.

The style of football Sydney play is a shit stain on this great game. Seldom do the Swans, particularly under Paul Roos, play exciting football. I realise winning is important but if you want support in Sydney you'll need to lift your game and be a little more entertaining. Sydney don't do themselves any favours whatsoever.

Definetely the Roos. They never seem to be rated very well but always seem to make the eight n go pretty good throughout the season.

This is hilarious. I must have missed the finals predicitions last year by all and sundry.

Carlton are the most over rated team in the comp the media love there lack lustre efforts. At the moment people are tipping them for top 4 and I expect the media to jump on board soon enough. A poll last year on the carlton board had 60% of supporters predicting a top 6 finish.

Id say that was some major over rating.

Agree totally. Every season I think Richmond will beat these guys but it has been a long time since we have. We play twice in 2009 and Richmond's season will be defined by how well we play against North.

If the Roos are crap and under-rated and we are still shorter with the bookies to make the 8 than Essendon does that put the Bombers in the extra crap basket?

No, North Melbourne are in the "absolutely desperate to make finals, even if we do nothing cos our support will lag, we'll lose sponsors and we'll be shipped off to West Sydney" basket. ;)

We, Essendon, are building a team that will be a premiership threat, North has built their team that consistently makes the finals, Laidley learnt that from Mick Malthouse during his days at Collingwood. :thumbsu:

Wow the joke went straight over somebodies head.

Think about it.

I can see it now - Winderlich, Laycock, Watson - all arm in arm singing the song after a flag!! One is fast but scared, one is slow and a poor decision maker and the other is the worst footballer in the league. Yes the Bombers are building to be a massive threat. 4 years with no finals and only Melbourne rated worse in 09.

Kangaroos are consistently under-rated. Sydney are consistently under-rated. Adelaide are consistently under-rated. Year in, year out, every pre-season ... regardless of what is actually happening at these three clubs, they are all very popular choices for "the team to slide". Rarely do they.

Which one takes the "prize"? Since Adelaide were tipped by a significant slice of Melbourne media to come last or near-to-bottom in 2005, and Adelaide actually achieved the minor round premiership that year ... I'd put that particular effort right up there in the "under-rating" hall of fame.

Adelaide pretty consistently win against both Kangaroos and Sydney also ... so I'd be bold enough to claim that Adelaide perhaps win this contest.

Sydney and Kangaroos are pretty formidable contenders mind you.

Sorry when is the last time the Roos beat the Dons?

Anyway, besides that, here's our building = Gumbleton, Ryder, Myers, Reimers, Houli, Dempsey, Neagle, Pears, Prismall, Davey, Hurley, Monfries, Jetta, Lonergan, Stanton.

Laycock is a back up ruckman, name a back up ruckman that is better than him. Why worry about Watson's pace when you have Jetta, Davey, Lovett, Dempsey et al to dish it off to. Winderlich would be extremely lucky to make Essendon's best 22.

Who cares where we're rated.
