Do you think footy fans in WA will jump on the new NRL team if the Eagles and Dockers keep serving up mediocre to poor performances?
If so how much will it affect the valuation of the Eagles and Dockers?

Next year it's quite likely it'll be the third consecutive season with no WA team featuring in the finals.
Definitely not

Plenty of people for 3 clubs, I think the Dockers will likely make finals both the WA clubs have nothing too worry about financially.

A bit more context but not a lot. Seems a very flawed assessment though.

I honestly can't see how Port are just slightly less than West Coast, who are the biggest club in the land, and above Sydney who are the darlings of Australia's most important city.

Probably where Kochie does his best work. Just keep him away from the footy department and governance of our club.

Lol no it won't, you all look at it back to front - they get the level of support they do despite missing finals and outside the Melbourne cauldron without an MCG.

Wait and see what happens when they start winning, i.e. Freo when they made the Grand Final selling out direct flight from Perth to Melbourne and then every connecting flight from Perth to Melbourne - that fervour is the future if they ever do win.

Verses some other 'brands' where a bad season has the AFL pour in priority picks, assistance, funding, coaching appointments, endorsement to play home games interstate etc. etc.

Serious underrating of the West coast brand it’s a corporate behemoth and brand in WA. Over 100 million in cash and assets, highest paying membership base and huge merch sales. Only Collingwood rivals us in that regard

West Coast for all their wealth are a location based brand. There’s not that many WC members and supporters based outside of WA. Stick somebody wearing a WC scarf in an ad for car insurance and that person is identifiably West Australian.

Whilst Collingwood is a Victorian club, it has a much wider profile nationally. And that national profile is worth a premium to sponsors who are seeking national exposure. And it’s not just about liking the brand, it’s also about being able to recognise the brand and having strong feelings about the brand (good or bad)

The list makes reasonable sense when considering those factors - but having Geelong above West Coast doesn’t seem right to me. Or Port above Adelaide. The rankings seem too heavily influenced by on-field performance.

Laura Kane came up with them.

I’d agree with that Collingwood are defitnely more national WCE has some support in Victoria but are generally western Australian. In Wa the big teams outside of wce and freo are north (Wa connection cable, krakuer bros ect) ESs and Carlton

Which club do you think has more supporters in WA? Richmond or Hawthorn?
I've never been to WA so I've always assumed that Collingwood have the most supporters there, barring the Eagles and Dockers.

What do you think the % would be of people who know only the Collingwood FC and not West Coast FC?

5%? Of that 5%, what would their net wealth as a % of Australians net wealth be? 0.1%?

If Collingwood's draw was so alluring to sponsors it would be reflected in the net assets of the club given they have existed for about 90 years longer than West Coast.

As of 2023;
West Coast net assets $108.7m
Collingwood net assets $57.0m

I’d be surprised if anything less than half of the national population wouldn’t be able to tell any AFL colours apart.

And there’d be a large number who would only know of Collingwood from Eddie McGuire on “Who want’s to be a millionaire?”

That might seem odd to footy fans like you or I, but we live in an AFL bubble.

Not really.

No doubt West Coast is the wealthiest club in the AFL by some margin.

But there is a lot more to club wealth than just sponsorship revenue. Such as membership dues. (Collingwood gets double the anmount of $$$ from Membership and Match day than what they get from sponsorships) Asset depreciation schedules. Good/Bad performing investments. Cost of servicing members. Quality of management (Collingwood have almost gone bust at least twice in my lifetime, and there are two other times when they were in a very poor financial position)

Hawks for sure few wa players in the 80’s recent modern success 80s 2000s 2010s. Richmond has been largely irrelevant the last 30/40 years over here.

I've never been to WA but isn't there a large following for rugby league there?
My mate was telling me recently that rugby league is big in Perth.
If rugby league were big in Perth the powers that be wouldn't have spent the last 28 years finding reasons to not have a club in Australia's 4th biggest city
