MBD38 B&F - Hall of Fame New
MBD HOF.png

The MBD Hall of Fame was designed to recognise significant contributions to the club over a long period of time, plus okeydoke7.

For context, in our 38 season history, 17 players have been inducted:

Headless (Legend) - 533 games
cooney - 519 games
cats2rise - 383 games
Van_Dyke - 332 games
Tarkyn_24 - 273 games
sausageroll - 263 games
Yakker - 263 games
lanky_wes - 243 games
Deestroy - 238 games
manangatang - 224 games
Logger - 181 games
Eth (Legend) - 178 games
Smartys Power - 154 games
Rhodesy Blues - 126 games
EBIAC - 120 games
Big Poppa Pump - 96 games
okeydoke7 - 68 games

I’m pleased to announce that we have two new additions this season.

DemonJim and sante joined the club in Season 22 and Season 23 respectively. Since that time, they have played 549 games, earned All-Sweet FA selection twice, and won four premiership medals - both represented the club in our successful Season 26 and Season 31 campaigns.

Both DJ and sante were long-term leadership group members, and have represented the club with distinction over a very long period of time. We’re lucky to have had them in our ranks, and their elevation to the Mount Buller Hall of Fame is richly deserved to recognise their efforts.

Congratulations, DemonJim. You had already had a glittering Sweet FA career at the Wonders and the Bears when you came across, and you’ve only added to that career in your time at the Demons. You could easily be a multi-Mobbs Medalist (apologies for reminding you), and some of your credentials in this league are quite absurd (e.g., second most Mobbs Medal votes of all time).

And congratulations, sante. You almost retired about 19 times, and one day we’ll let you, but I’m certainly glad none of those retirement efforts came to fruition. You bring a light-hearted energy to match threads that I think we all enjoy, and it’s worth noting that, aside from anything else, you’ve been part of this place since Season 4. That’s a terrific effort.

Congratulations again to DemonJim and sante for being elevated to the Hall of Fame - and thank you. :star::star:

MBD38 B&F - finals New
Finals series.png

Having finished on top of the ladder and armed with the double chance, we were full of confidence approaching the finals, seeking our fourth premiership.

The Qualifying Final against the Dragons ended up being a disappointment. We gave up 69 points to quarter time, and 101 to the half, and couldn’t recover thereafter. We ended up only losing by 25 points, but the game was essentially done at quarter time. There were, however, some quality individual performances, perhaps highlighted by 34 disposals and 13 marks from Wosh.

Losing the Qualifying Final meant we had to play again the following week. We came up against the Gumbies in the Semi Final, and the result was practically the inverse of the week prior. We put through 22 goals to win by a massive 76 points, including five goals from sausageroll, and three from each of moginie and Headless. Bluelegs, Gralin, p4p1, and Scythe94 also kicked multiple goals.

And so came the Preliminary Final against the East Side Hawks. It was a rollercoaster game; twice we managed significant leads before being pegged back. We led at every change but ultimately lost by four points in heartbreaking fashion. The Hawks went on to win the premiership against the Dragons the following week.

Deestroy Medal votes:

Qualifying Final:

3 votes: Wosh
2 votes: jmoo wan
1 vote: moginie

Semi Final:
3 votes: cats2rise
2 votes: Gralin
1 vote: moginie

Preliminary Final:

2 votes: Gralin
1 vote: Van_Dyke

This club has been consistent and stable for a long time, and it’s due in part to the wide variety of posters we have. The Club Award/Coaches’ Award typically is awarded to a poster who embodies the values of the club, consistently turns up, and contributes to the club’s functioning.

This season, the award goes to tgrs. We were stoked when tgrs agreed to join the club on their return to the league. They joined the group with ease, and it honestly feels like they’ve been here forever now. tgrs turned up in every single match thread, averaging ~26 posts per week, and was a really important source of engagement both for us and the opposition.

To demonstrate the type of contributor tgrs is, tgrs reached out to volunteer with the running of this B&F, and has been happy to step up into the leadership group for next season.

We’re really lucky to have tgrs amongst our ranks, and hope they’ll stick around here for a long time to come.

Congrats, tgrs. 🤝
Nice work tgrs

MBD38 B&F - final results New
Winner - moginie.png

And now that the final results have been revealed, I’m very happy to announce that the Deestroy Medalist for Season 38 is none other than moginie, who goes back-to-back after yet another stellar season.

mogs was everywhere in Season 38: Mobbs Medal, All-Sweet FA, and now club B&F in a season where we were a kick away from reaching the grand final. But as we all know, mogs provides most value in a posting sense, offering loyalty, friendship, and

The Poster of the Year (Season) Award was introduced in Season 29 to recognise consistent and engaging match thread posting. Winners in the last nine seasons have included Headless (x2), Callums_Guns (x2), Tarkyn_24, sante, sausageroll, Scythe94, and Gralin.

This season, I’m thrilled to say that the award goes to cats2rise. cats2rise led our midfield this season as first ruck, and notched up their second All-Sweet FA selection. cats’ first All-Sweet FA selection came all the way back in Season 11 - that’s TWENTY-SEVEN SEASONS ago - and it’s amazing that c2r is still around and contributing to this level.

c2r averaged more than 50 posts per match thread this season, and was consistently engaging both for our own players, and also for the opposition. c2r is quick-witted and super creative; match threads are a lot more enjoyable when cats2rise is up and about.

Congratulations on the award, c2r. 🤩
Well deserved on the back of a great season cats2rise

And now we get to the Eth Award!

Eth was our captain in Seasons 16-20 - an era that included our first ever premiership (Season 18) - and was hugely influential in the culture of the club. We’re looking forward to the glorious day that Eth eventually returns in a playing capacity!

At the end of the season, all listed Season 38 players were invited to send through 3-2-1 votes based on who they thought deserved this award this season, based on criteria like contribution to the club, doing stats, getting others involved, match thread posting etc. In many ways, it’s the most prestigious award that the club has to offer insofar as it’s peer-voted.

To put it bluntly, the results this season were very close; 10 different players were considered in the top three across the squad, indicating how even our contributions are. But in the end, there was one player who crept ahead for Season 38, and that player is Wosh.

This is Wosh’s first Eth Award, and I’m extremely pleased that she has been recognised by the playing group in this way. Since moving to the Demons in Season 35, Wosh has been nothing short of spectacular for the club. She always pushes engagement, understands that different posters have very different reasons for being here, and respects the lore of the game and the league.

But even more, her impact on the club is perhaps unparalleled when you combine match thread posting and behind-the-scenes contributions. She is a real leader, and one we all respect greatly. Congratulations on the Eth Award, Wosh - your teammates have recognised you as the worthy recipient for Season 38!

🧚‍♀️ :mushroom: 🧚‍♂️
Congrats Wosh

NOTE: The Rounds 7-12 write-up below was penned by our dear friend tgrs. Thank you, tgrs! :star:

Welcome back to the Mount Buller BnF

Round 7 saw the glorious winning streak come to an undeserving end against the Gumbies, I mean, the Gumbies... We have to console ourselves with the stand out performance of Scythe94 in the midfield who was the only Demons to crack the DreamTeam ton in the close loss.

The end of the streak would signal some dark times ahead, but thankfully, in Round 8, we had the Bye which was one of the toughest match ups of the season but a hard fought team victory.

Round 9's match-up was the East Side Hawks, looking to rejoin the winners list, an explosive second and third quarter with massive contributions from the ever reliable engine room and our inspirational leader Headless stepping into the ruck position and dominating allowed us to cruise in the fourth to a impressive 8-1 record.

Round 10, an away trip to Underground Stadium and the Swamprats beckoned, and in one of the most thrilling ends to a game the entire season regardless of team, Swamprat Rodney Dangerfield had a chance to kick the winning goal and missed, leading to a high-scoring draw that unfortunately didn't reward the awesome performances of Gralin , Scythe94 and p4p1 in the middle. Jatz was the spitting image of a really large, really solid wall down back and 4 of the 6 forwards chipped in with 2 goals or more.

The Round 11 battle against the Warriors was easily the most disappointing on field performance of the season, and despite a fourth quarter comeback to make the score respectable, the premiership quarter performance saw the game slip away, despite a heroic 9 goal effort from sausageroll .

Moving on to the new most disappointing performance of the season, Round 12 saw the misery continue against the last placed Bombers. In a low scoring affair that was as dour as having to post against them for a week, there were no standout performances from any Demon, except perhaps moginie at a stretch, the entire team just decided to not rock up, but despite the disappointment, our majestic season was still well on track, as we sat 2 points clear at the top of the ladder.

So I guess all that’s left is for me to wrap this thing up! A reminder of major award winners:

But I want to hand out a few thank yous before we finish up; two of our much-loved players have decided to move to the East Side Hawks for Season 39.

sausageroll joined the club in Season 24, and has been unreal for us for 15 seasons. In that time, snags has notched up two premierships, 263 games, MBD Hall of Fame status, five of their eight All-Sweet FA selections, and league Hall of Fame status. sausageroll is selfless, consistent, and posts the most beautiful statistics and recaps the league has ever seen. We’ll really miss you in our match threads and in our PMs, sausageroll. Best of luck at the Hawks for Season 39.

After playing 38 games for the Furies, Scythe94 moved to the Demons in Season 36. It feels like they’ve been here a lot longer, as they very quickly became a mainstay and deeply respected member of our side. Scythe94 played more than 50 games for the Demons, and finished second in the Mobbs Medal this season. All the best at the Hawks for next season, Scythe94.

On a personal level, if you’ll indulge me for a moment, I consider both sausageroll and Scythe94 friends - as I’m sure many of us do. They’ll always be welcome at the Demons. Thank you both for your contributions, and we hope to see you back very, very soon.:blueheart:

MBD39 B&F - Season 39 New
Season 39.png

I’d really like to give my sincere thanks to every single player on our list from this season. We have the best list in the league, and every player brings something different.

This season, I had the great joy and honour to captain this side - something I never thought I would do. As I have already shared in PM, it’s time to hand over the captaincy to our dear friend Gralin, who is going to be superb and, no doubt, lead us to premiership glory in Season 39! Now that this B&F is done and dusted, consider this the official handover.

Gralin is the perfect choice for captaincy, having been a force in the league now for several seasons, and having represented us superbly in committee in the back half of this season. I’m really excited as we move toward next season with a chance to go one (I guess two) better and win the premiership for the fourth time in our history.

Sincere thanks again to each of you for Season 38. See you soon for the new season! 🤗

Love you very much, 'Less and all the other Delons – I adored my three seasons at the Dees and will miss posting with you all every week.

Congrats to all of today's winners/acknowledgements, and best of luck for S39 ❤️

Congratulations to all of the following for their awards this season...

Thank you for the kind words Headless . Making the decision to go over to help out the Hawks feels like the right thing to do. It's no secret that they really struggled with activity this season and desperately need people to help fix that. But the time I've spent with all of you as team mates over the past 15 seasons has honestly been the most enjoyable time I've had in the SFA. There is not a single member of the Demons squad that I don't rate.
I also appreciate the opportunity to play at Full Forward over the past two seasons. It's a blessing and a curse. It's kinda great fun but also the most frustrating position I've played. I didn't know it was possible to feel like a failure when a random simulator decides you're not going to kick enough goals to lead the team to victory; but it is.

It's a shame we didn't win the premiership this season. I'd pretty much made up my mind to move prior to the Preliminary Final but the Hawks winning was almost enough to make me change my mind about moving. I'm happy for my future team mates, but it's a topic I'll never be able to get behind whenever it is mentioned in match threads. I moved to the Bombers in Season 10, immediately after they won a premiership, but that premiership didn't hurt. This one does. Maybe it's because I decided to move after the season back then and not while the finals were still being played with both teams still in the race. Congratulations to any of the Hawks reading this though. Enjoy the win.

I hope the Hawks will be successful while I'm there. But if not, I hope it's the Demons winning. All the best.

This is one of the best B&F presentations I've seen. Great stuff Headless and to everyone else who contributed.

You have been a great captain this season 'less. Seriously great job. You really stood up from the start at the end of last season and ran the club like a seasoned leader. We honestly couldn't have asked for the club to have been led any better during your short reign.

Congratulations to Gralin . I agree that you are the perfect choice to take over the captaincy. I totally believe that the Demons are in great hands, with a first class captain and leadership group.

Good luck to all in Season 39 and beyond.

My dear fabulous Buller comrades, thank you all.

I'm having a quiet quaff after working all day at a lavender farm (nice work if you can get it) and catching up with the excellent B&F presentation.

Once again, I'm humbled by this award. There are so many wonderful people at this club who make posting and hanging around so worthwhile.

All the best to sausageroll and Scythe94 as they embark on new careers away from the fabulous Buller family. I will look forward to seeing you next season.

Again, thank you. I've loved being a part of a chatty, happy, white bread, dull green (duller) team that turns up, posts, laughs and enjoys my little observations on life.

Whatever you do this evening, do it in the knowledge that I appreciate each and every one of you.
