It’s funny how many people are saying how ridiculous it all is without having the faintest clue what happened.

If the staff have complained… well, they work in a pub. Not a church. People who work in a pub would be used to a usual level of hijinks. Doubt they’re worried about that, it’s their job.

What would possibly lead them to make a complaint about a function?

What could possibly have happened with a group of several dozen footballers who’ve been on unlimited alcohol and drugs for many hours?

That the AFL are fining the skipper for not putting a stop to it?

Switch your brain on, it wouldn’t be the first time things have gone awry at a footballers event like this. Are people really dismissing the possibility that something beyond the pale has happened here?

The possibilities are endless.

I doubt it’s anything to do with a raygun costume.

I can think of 25 year old comedy skits stereotyping the apologies of sportspeople for idiotic behaviour.

AFL clubs are trying to market themselves to as many demographics as possible. “Don’t piss off potential customers” has been a truism long before people got radicalised by the Twitter algorithm into using seppo terms like “woke” and “DEI” out of context as lazy culture-war dog whistles. The same people who will ironically fly inti a rage when an athlete kneels during an anthem or a brand of cheese changes its name.

Perhaps the players should have engaged their brains before going out, as sure as eggs are eggs this was always going to see the light of day in time.

AFAIK it was a private room in a private venue with no members of the public there.

It was 'an anonymous allegation' and the AFL want to suspend multiple players for 6 matches.

Where is the line drawn to protect peoples 'reasonable expectation of privacy'?
