Round 1 has arrived! 4 games in and we already have some telling results.

Scott Beattie and his Echuca United clan laid to rest any speculation the coach was under an injury cloud, with a dominating display over the pies. They stamped their claim that this years pass mark is nothing short of than silverware success.

No "Guy" No "worries". Obviously he is injured however they have enough firepower and drive this year will ensure the Eagles are on the right track this year. Priesty left off where he finished last years form wise.

Moama, much hype not much delivered unfortunately. Positive signs though from several recruits however much direction is required within a game plan or structure.

Congupna will not finished bottom, it will be a race for the spoon out of Toc and Rumba with long years ahead.

Finley are a force to be recognised this year with height, strentgh and power. Bongetti laid claim to proving his point to Cobram in a dominant display with a best on performance.

Deni improves however will be round the same mark as Moama. Work to be done by the Rams who will continue to work on these younger blokes.

Nathalia one year wonders? All they have proved from last years success is money can buy premierships, and unfortunately their is half a dozen players that have stuck round who will have to be on the receiving end of losses to sides who realistically with last years sides would have destroyed. It is a new year and it could be a long year for the purps at this stage. A lot of new names in the starting 21 so could be a foundation to build on.

Tonny, solid a good win. Bit like Richmond this will be a good building block to work on giving them confidence entering a new season beating the reigning premiers.

Cobram will be out to prove a point today in showing they can do the job without Finley best of grounder Bongetti! Expecting the Tigers to take the points not without it's headaches containing big Luke Jarjoura! It was Kane Boyer who got the job on him last year, I can't see who will get the job in 2013! Tigers 25 points

Mulwala to take the points comfortably, expect an "Arch" clinic along with a big bag from former grasshopper Chase to kick start his run to the ton. Nick "scoffa" O'brien would be entering todays game with nothing short of a woody ,taking on rumba at home, Easter weekend, and a long list of talented recruits not to mention with what could be a big year at the Lions.

Will see improvement from a steve Daniels influence Rumbalara outfit, however will be a big differential between these two sides. One can only hope that Rumba have worked on defensive running over the summer and learnt that footy is about running both ways, in saying that it could be an extra long weekend for the boys from Shep!

Absolutely embarrassing game of football today at mulwala. Easily the most embarrassing game of football I've ever played in at my time at rumba. To say it was a wake up call would be an understatement. Mulwala was far superior to us in every way. I was expecting and hoping for a better showing considering the work we've done in the off season, and where we'd come frome last season. but in all honesty I reckon we might have gone backwards a step, if that's at all possible..... It was only our first game out of the 20 odd in a season, and we have started a season like this before and hit a winning streak towards the end of the season, but there's a lot of work ahead of us.....

No interesting results to complete an interesting yet somewhat predictable round 1.

Performance ladder from round 1

1. Tongala
Great win to a new look Blues outfit. They would not have pencilled this one in reviewing the draw. To win comfortably at the purps home is a great effort. Souter and mellington are huge gains for this side, one hard physical presence around the contest and ball winning ability while the other gives them a leading target to kick to. A lot to like about the blues, could be this years biggest improver and may have a say in the shaping of the 6 come the business end. Early call, but they will roll sides who under estimate them this year, pencil them in for a majority of homes wins and that could see them with 7-9 wins with the odd couple away would see them around the 11-13 mark to play finals football.
2.Mulwala
A sign of things to come, in a boring contest where one side butchered the footy whilst the other dominated. Although expected to win comfortably, This side could cause more havoc to bottom sides throughout the year. Lions to be stronger away from home this year.
3.Congupna
The max exodus to Katunga had the "Road" looking depleted and wooden spooners, yet somehow theyve strung a side together that could be competitive this year. Got the 4 points away, now they host Cobram which will test them and give us a real gauge as to where their at.
4.Cobram
A huge second half from the tigers got their season in motion. Some real positive signs with a not so one dimental forward line this year. Team sheet suggest a more even spread up forward with the shep imports proving beneficial. Adam Rudds name appears which could add more depth deep in attack. Huge win in front of a huge crowd, would have like this game to be the Sunday game or even on a Monday. Add Hill and Svarc back and they will be be even better balanced and more mature at the stoppages.

5.Echuca
Got the job done in the derby, however Beattie would be happy but expecting a more supreme effort from his troops if their going to intimidate the competition this year. Ball movement was clean and looked to be quicker with more polish than last year. Expecting a big year from Duane Hueston if the Eagles are to be the real deal.
6.Finley
Bongetti has lifted the depth and attack of the cats midfield. Questions were asked over the preseason on how the impact of versatile forward Reid Crowe was going to be replaced but it didn't seem a problem in the battle of our two most northern sides. Got the points now they host juggernaut of the lions under lights at home. Huge game and a huge test for the young cats.
7.Deni
Improvement has come from within however a boost from some recruits has lifted morale of the boys from Hardinge street oval. Good signs and expect them to continue to grow and improve over the year.
8. Rumba
Expected them to get beaten however not to the extent that did. Rex Taylor missing due to injury will hurt but their are some more concerning issues. They will host Numurkah this Saturday in what could be another big loss. They aren't of the bottom of my ladder due more disappointing performances.
9.Toc
6 months they bloods have had to recruit and get structures into place, yet signs tell us that neither have taken place. They should have beaten Congupna at home on the weekend end of story. Congupna gains are handy for the but another preseason of building that young group should have got them the points. Toc need to look at the model of Numurkah that has seen them regain respect and become a force in a short period of time.
10.Moama
Big hype, alot of talking but unfortunately not much walk the walk was done. They hosted a the eagles on a big stage, and failed to deliver. The only time they got in the game was 4 goal to 1 third term, to then come out and have 10 goal final term dished up to them is disappointing. The travel to Barooga this week in which I expect them to get the points.
11.Barooga
A very young hawks outfit got taught a football lesson by their two former influences in Hyde and mills at the weekend. The Barooga faithful would have been wishing the defect of Hyde and crapp twelve months ago was merely a dream however it wasn't the case with both putting in outstanding games. Need senior heads to have more of an influence moving forward, which will require Robbins and Jarjoura to get fitter and have more of an influence around the contest.
12.Nathalia
How 6 months is a long time in football. Who would have predicted this? Loosing a lot of talent hurts any club, however a solid foundation of senior talent still remains at the purps. Noticed a number of these guys didn't play, however getting beat at home on the unfurling of a flag to a side that 5 games last year I think it was is not how you start a season on the back of defending a premiership. This will hurt the likes of club stalwarts Brodie Ross and Jason Limbrick and will expect them to bounce back for Toc in 2 weeks. The bleeding of the younest Barnes "Malcolm" is the only positive for the purps from the weekend with big wraps on this kid. They would want to improve their first halves and no let sides jump them like they did on the weekend if they want to get their seasons back on track and remain in games from the bounce.

6.Finley

Heard a few things that he will be playing at finley this year.. along with his brother

No hype at Moama just recruiting to cover losses and add some depth and experience to a young team. Other than Maddocks there were no real stars picked up.

11.Barooga

it was a very young side,to say we got taught a football lesson is a joke, with some key players out i wouldnt rule them out yet, as for cobram i was speaking to a few of there supporters and past commity member and found it interesting that none of them knew who their number 7 player was who was kicking all there goals?

Moama going in with big wraps? Hadn't heard that before.
A solid season where the team gels with some solid performances would be all that would be expected I reckon.

Moama and Barooga fought out a close game but both teams suffered from inefficiency, a lot of players failed to hit targets good games from Cosgriff, Manley, Ismail and Welch for Moama and Brooks, Saunders and Ryan for Barooga. Barooga outcoached can’t believe they didn’t man up Maddocks allowed him to play a loose man in front of Jarjoura all day.

Can anyone tell me anything about Kial Crowe from Finley? Did he play with them last year?

just curious as to whether the league tries to address the racism issue they have with rumbalara. sounds like its just a regular thing that keeps happening and not much being done about it.. I know most ppl prob think its not an issue and that its just an excuse but iv witnessed it from the sidelines myself so its obvious that racism is still out there

Surely that's it for Luke jarjoura in terms of playing footy in the goulburn/murray area??? What club in there right mind would take him on now?!?

Hi all. Luke was not sacked by the club. He felt that it was of little benefit for the club to continue paying a fee where there was going to be little reward for the club. Although disappointing, hopefully it will be fruitful for the future as it will give more young blokes an opportunity plus keep some mulla in the coffers!
