If that is true about Saad and Scanlon, the situation at Barooga is getting beyond a joke. Do they honestly not give a damn about the long term health of the club? Dishing out all of this money to lure top-rate players to their club for a couple of years of service is ridiculous. I hope one day the Barooga Sports Club pull the pin on them so I can watch the football club crash and burn, and they'll have no-one to blame but themselves.

Re: Murray Football League

I wouldn't expect it, but my latest mail has Archard playing for North Adelaide in 2008, so that could free up a few $$ in Echuca FC's budget.
Ryhs Archard will play at Echuca, Baker signed at Locky as assistant coach, Jones to Perth to catch up with mates, yet training at United ???

Not sure that it is Barooga Sporties that are giving them all the money, pretty sure Mr Brooks is helping out in a big way.

Spot on Hank. People would be very surprised how little $ the Sporties actually hands out to the Hawks. You'd be pretty warm though with the Tubby Brooks call. Hey, good luck to them. They've got a very wealthy bloke who played for them as did his kids as do his grandkids now and he wants to see his club win one. Show me a club in the MFL who wouldn't want a Tubby Brooks helping them out.

2Gs a game to Saad and the other bloke - that's bu@#sh%t! That is the sort of rubbish Barooga haters have been pulling out of their ars#s for years. Barooga will need to spend a whole lot more to match Mulwala of the last few years, and who knows how much Nathalia have spent for their success.

What is the bottom rate for an AFL rookie? The $40 000 per year (2G x 20) probably wouldn't be far from it??

That is crazy. I doubt the accuracy of these figures, not sustainable.

Re: Murray Football League

Nathalia wouldn't be in the ball park in dollar terms compared to Mul, Bar and the Eagles in the last couple of years.
Certainly don't have any problem with these clubs going on spending sprees (better than wallowing on the bottom of the ladder) but the facts are in the last 9 years in the Murray League the premiers have put together sides made up off local content - Nathalia 3 years, Deni 4 years, Numurkah 2 years. Who is the last side to buy a flag in the Murray League?? Been a while.

Good points there Hirdy! Most sides that spend heaps fall marginally short if they attempt to buy a flag-oftenn falter in a Prelim or a Granny! The last MFL side to perhaps by one could be Jerilderie in about 86-could be wrong:thumbsu:

Re: Murray Football League

timmy hargraves is still training with us (yarrawonga) so he has either signed with nathalia and cudn't be botherd traveling or he is just staying with us next year

Collins got 2Gs a game last year so wouldnt surprise that figure for Saad & Scanlon. Barooga's biggest trouble is they pay way over market value and pinch players that other clubs have put alot of effort into.

Re: Murray Football League

I RECKON YOU WILL FIND MORE WILL LEAVE IF HE IS COACHING AS HE IS AN ''I AM MAN'' JUST ASK HIM AND HE WILL TELL YOU. IF HE HAS BEEN PLAYING LOOSE HE WILL DO AGAIN AS IT MIGHT GET A BIT TOUGH FOR HIM

Had a bit to do with Mul and Parker have you champ?

Won't argue with you on Collins' fee cause I don't know. With his pedigree there would be plenty of clubs around the bush willing to pay up.

I disagree with you on the pinching claim though. That's what they call "recruiting". Any club keen on doing well recruits, unless they have a glut of local talent. Players themselves don't get pinched - they move to other clubs of their own choice. If that's for cash, petrol money, cattle or guaranteed pussy each Saturday night from the netballers, they still go along with it. Players also change clubs for a crack at a flag, for the facilities, because they've got mates or family at the club, their new missus plays netball there, because they weren't getting a go at their junior club (or getting $ like the recruits) and have probably thoughts "bugger it, I wouldn't mind some of the lerks of a recruit". Pinching doesn't come into it.

Re: Murray Football League

how will tocumwal shape up next year, lost marg and clancy? what happened to them. weren't they in a grand final a few years back. fallen off the radar. Need a couple of big names from in town to bring some mates with them. Jarrod Kelly rumoured to be on the move. tough little onballer.

Can confirm Jarrod Kelly will be staying at Toc. Marg and Clancey have signed at Wadonga. They have kept all there locals which is a good sign and have signed a few from Shepp Bears, with Campe coming back from Melbourne with 2 mates that have played a hand full of VFL games.

Hopkins hops on Blues bus By Richard Goodbody

Numurkah has secured its second key signing in as many months after snaring the services of Mooroopna utility Geoff Hopkins.
Hot on the heels of Tyson Saunders' signature, the Blues have agreed to terms with Hopkins, who joined the Cats from Silvan this year.
The versatile defender, who also showed his capabilities as a forward last season when he moved up front against Shepparton to boot three match-winning goals, will add some genuine bite to the Blues' structure.
With Bryce Wellington expected to return to full fitness following a string of injuries, the Blues' forward line could well boast the services of Wellington, as well as Hopkins, skipper Liam Gledhill and former Sydney draftee Mark Brown.
"Geoff's a good signing for us," Numurkah coach Linc Wellington said yesterday.
"With Tyson on board and Geoff also agreeing to play with us, we've been lucky enough to lock away a couple of quality players and we're still talking to a few more.
"Quite a number of players have agreed to do pre-season with us, so hopefully these early signings encourage a few more to come on board.
"I think we're heading in the right direction and having Geoff and Tyson on board is only going to help us."
During his first year in charge last season, Wellington led the Blues to seven victories, but they were unable to feature in September.
The Blues kick off their pre-season campaign with a training run on Monday, December 3 from 6 pm.

My point was more that they pinch players that surrounding clubs have worked on (recruiting) for months. Barooga find out and offer money they "can't refuse". Heartbreaking for clubs that work hard to raise money for the running of their clubs only to have Barooga's bottomless pit come along.

Well that says more about the individual player than the club doesn't it? I would have thought though that if a player isn't signed with a club for next year he's available and open to be spoken to. Are you talking about Barooga sniffing around some potential Tocumwal recruits? I can remember Toc poaching a recent League Medallist (and Barooga local boy through and through) from the hawks only a few years back. I think the odd local club has picked up some handy Barooga players over the years. I go back to my earlier comments along the lines that players will go to clubs only if they want to - noone's holding a gun to their head.

Re: Murray Football League

think both dtm and doobie have valid points, the problem with the hawks is they tend to hear on the grapevine potential recruits at other clubs and throw cash at them just to win the race. Every club has a different take on recruiting, Barooga tend to due it a bit different.
In regards to the Barooga boy through and through - the big fella has always played the game, tends to talk to a handful of clubs each year, don't think the Bloods "poached him" he was unhappy with his home club at the time. He isnt frighten to let the hawks know he is in discussion with other clubs in the area. Pretty clever really, gives him some bargaining power especially when the Hawks are more than happy to spend money on non locals.
