Unfortunately I can't see it happening anytime soon. I was speaking with a good friend of mine recently and we both agreed that the concept works well in Melbourne as the clubs don't have netball associated with them, but in the country, as clubs have up to seven netball teams within their club, the relegation/promotion system wouldn't work well. For example, if you looked at the Mathoura Football Club, over the past four or five years, the football side of the club has severaly lacked success, whereas the netball sides have won a number of premierships. You couldn't have Mathoura FC in division three with the football sides still struggling and the netball sides kicking arse.

A ratio system could be put into place which took into account the success of each of the football and netball sides, but again you would have to deal with the above problem.

You could look at basing the promotion/relegation on the club champion points instead of the success of the football only, but instead of doing the netball and football points seperately have them combined so that judging the strength of a club as whole would be easier. Then you would promote or relegate the most or least successful CLUBS not the most or least successful senior football teams.

That’s what I meant when I said:

The club championship points/ratio system might work but I could see in most cases, either the netball part of the club will struggle in a higher division and the football part will thrive, or it could be the other way around.

With the amount of clubs in the PDFL and the travelling distances between them somethings gotta be done. The truth is if nothing does change clubs will either fold or even persue some form of legal advice, ultimatly accomplishing nothing but putting the league/associated clubs/administrations through the mud and ending up back where they began.
IMO Fair or not fair, divisions will have to be created and tested for atleast 3 season with relegations and all (for whole clubs not individual teams) or they'll have to cull or merge clubs. the dicision will will ultimatly come down to the lesser of two evils because they're not going to make everyone happy.

Fair call, but like the old saying goes, if it aint broke, don't fix it. The Murray Football League doesn't have too many troubles at the moment, therefor, it doesn't need any major overhaul.

As for the Picola & District Football League, there are major issues that need addressing, asap. I don't see that the MFL needs to be dragged into the issue, rather the PDFL needs to work to prolong the long-term jeopardy of some of the struggling clubs and perhaps move some clubs to the MFL. Maybe Shepp East into the MFL and Finley to PDFL. I don't know...

Re: Murray Football League - Part 2

The rumour mill is well and trying into action. Here are a couple i heard in the last couple of days....

Quarrel is set to be appointed Shepp Uniteds senior coach, with Nathalia already having appointed a new coach.

Also heard Scanlon has been offered $60,000 to move to Barooga from Melb to be playing coach of Barooga. (i find this a little far fetched but nothing suprises me in this day and age)

Saad Saad offered $1800 a game to play at Barooga. (also maybe a little far fetched)

Snelson is pulling the boots on for Tongala in "09"

Murray League should stay as it is , it would be a detriment to all clubs involved, PDFL or MFL, to see a top four 4 MFL junior, netball/football or reserves football side play against a current bottom four side in the PDFL if using the senior 18's side as the basis for relegation/ promotation or alternatively a senior 18's bottom four PDFL side playing against a top 4 MFL senior side side if using club championship points as a basis for relegation/ promotion. Fact of the matter is MFL is a better standard of footy than the PDFL, and if things were more open for the PDFL's better players go and have a crack at the MFL and return to their home PDFL club when ever they are not up to MFL senior standard, without putting their hand out for so much money, and vis versa, PDFL clubs offering so much to MFL players , everybody would be better off:thumbsu::thumbsu:
I would like to see something put in place to allow for a feeder type system example :: Deni Rovers and Blighty feed the Rams and the Rams are let use a certain amount of players out of those clubs for a certain amount of times during the year, and if players from those PDFL clubs, at any time, leave to another MFL then a royalty is paid to the Rams, may encourage support to and from clubs ??

FOUR-TIME Deniliquin premiership coach Gary Parsons plans to return the Rams to finals football next season.
Rams officials confirmed Parsons' appointment as senior coach this week.
After four years away from the job, the 45 year-old non-playing coach said he was "recharged" and ready for another season at the helm.
"It's exciting times for the club with so much talent coming through," Parsons said.
"Frog (outgoing coach Troy Bartlett) has really nurtured the young blokes well and our junior programs have been fantastic.
"Ultimately that's where success comes from," he said.
Despite not coaching the Rams since their fourth consecutive Murray Football League flag in 2004, Parsons has still been involved in football.
He coached the MFL interleague side for three consecutive years and more recently the Deni High Swans in their debut Shepparton and District Junior Football Competition season.
He guided the Swans to the finals and was consequently named the SDJFC coach of the year.
Parsons has previously received the Goulburn Murray Coaches Association senior coach of the year award. He was also the AFL NSW director of coaching for the southern NSW region this season and an assistant coach of the state Under 18s.
"It's great to come back to the Rams. I've still been involved with the club over the last four years with my wife Paula and three girls playing netball for the Rams," Parsons said.
"I just love my footy and the Rams are a great club to be involved with.
"I'm really looking forward to the season ahead."
Parsons said the level of depth at the club is a bonus.
About 10 teenagers will climb the ranks from thirds footy this year.
"It's a totally different group from when I last coached," he said.
"The squad is a lot younger and inexperienced but we still have plenty of talent.
"We'll aim to keep our core group of senior footballers and work on developing our young players.
"Our main goal will be to make the finals, with the side having knocked on the door the last two seasons." Parsons will hold an information day for all prospective players, plus four training runs, before Christmas. Details are still to be confirmed.
