Re: Murray Football League (Part 5)

correct, add adam lovison to the list too!

Tucky tyse was the mate i was referring to that is goin to tonny with deledio, vick, souter & lovison next year!! So i'll fill u in on him!
He's a type of player every coach wants as he's a no fuss just do my job type, very cinsistent & very hard running! I rate him as a player the way he goes about his football, shame to lose him but all the best & i think he will be a very good player for tonny!

I already had in previous post bud! Also silly season rumour around the area is that maybe another souter might be trying to join u's in tonny?? True??

Re: Murray Football League (Part 5)

Fair few ins at Tongala, are there many players looking at leaving, what are the likes of Trist and Pappin upto?

Re: Murray Football League (Part 5)

A bit of movement: Ash Hockey will return to Mooroopna after two seasons with Cobram; Brett Vallender will return to Nathalia from Shepp, as will Troy Snelson (Girgarre). Daniel Bourke and Ross Garner will come out of retirement for the Purples too.

Re: Murray Football League (Part 5)

outs for tonny are trist moving to melbourne with work, adam nunn to lancaster following the love bug, james mcrea moved out of the area and pappin is not expected to return

Think you'll find Vallender coming back to the Purps from Picola Utd. Didn't finish the year out at Shep, but made a difference in the PDFL North West comp.

As for Jordan Souter coming back and playing at Tonny, I find this disappointing and this is no offence to Tonny or the MFL. The kid can play and had a very good season with the Cats in arguably the best standard around. My advice for all the young blokes out there is to play the best standard you can for as long as you can!! You can always come back to your home club/league later in your careers and carve up with the experience and knowledge you would have gained from being in a better comp. We're having trouble with Picola league clubs poaching our youngsters, especially from the North West comp. No offence but the standard of that sector is average compared to the South East and would be a real set back for any junior trying to establish themselves at Senior level. Had Michael Barlow talk to our U17s the other day and he is testament of what can be achieved if you keep applying yourself at the highest level you possibly can!!! For his sake, I hope the leg comes right and he starts again from where he left off. Anyway, we have to live with the choices we make so good luck to all those in the process of making one regarding their footballing future!

Think it is just wishful thinking from Tonny, as Jordan signed on for next year after completing the quinella with Mooroopna's other Tongala recruit Percy Roberts in the B&F.

Re: Murray Football League (Part 5)

What about Brett Vallander the 4 time Morrision medallist, cos after what he thinks he's worth HE NEEDED TO HAVE WON 4 OF THEM.

Shepp Bears obviously couldn't afford him back Dictator, must admit his price would have skyrocketed after his handful of games with Picola Utd after leaving the Bears;)

I agree with everything you say Hawk in regards to the younger blokes having a crack in the higher leagues, If the kids wants to go play in higher standard then minor league clubs should have no problems in releasing them. (and of course wish them all the best):thumbsu:

But saying that your having trouble with minor league clubs "poaching" your youngsters, I think you would find "us" so called minor clubs have even more trouble from clubs in a higher standard like Barooga, Cobram, Toc, etc etc poaching our young guns. It's a real credit to our local clubs to attract young players and even keep them.

It's definitely a double edged sword...

1. He didnt have a real big impact for a guy coming straight out of gv senior footy, how did he make a difference? didnt picola finish second last

2. If you look after your locals they will look after you!

I understand Hawk that you obviously are feeling frustrated that young players are looking to move away from your club and also have heard plenty of times the old speil that to make it to the highest standard possible ( AFL ) you need to play the best standard you can .
Affraid to be the one that informs you Hawk, but its all a croc, a player can make it from any standard and the MFL sits at the same level in a players pathway to AFL as the PDFL.

1. The most decorated player not yet at age to play Murray Bushranger ( where the greatest amount of players from this area are recruited from ) in the Goulburn Murray Region plays for a PDFL club.

2. Most players who get recruited beyond TAC, do so from a state league, the PDFL has quite a few players who have played VFL directly from PDFL, keep in mind Barlow entered VFL via GVFL.

3. The PDFL has provided equal opportunity if not greater exposure to entry into the local TAC side, and the entry levels speak for themselves. Actually there is also quite a few talented junior players who are looking to join the PDFL in 2011 to improve there exposure to the Murray Bushrangers ( a players greatest opportunity to make the ultimate level ) AFL.

Its common that players will consider a move directly beyond or within a couple of years of leaving underage level football , an increased amount of senior players who havent played junior football at the club, recruited players, generally leads to a greater amount of players in that, recently left underage football , bracket who look to move on.

Although it may not be a view which is supported by the traditionalist, the kids you alluded to, may actually be looking toward the PDFL to improve their football. Especially those who may not be in your best 5, as there opportunities may be greater at PDFL level, yet they will also have the same opportunity to gain entry into State or TAC sides .

Big Hawk to start with poaching players will never stop & it happens in every direction, i wouldn't point the finger at the club, i'd point the finger at the way country footy has headed over the last 15 or so years! Clubs are now simply doin what they can to stay competitive with the dollar! (I'm guessin ur a barooga club man or footy boy) I didn't hear u complain when matty byres went up there to coach & bought players (senior or fringe) from GV that was interested because of the cash!! It got u's 2 a couple of granny's (I was barracking for u's 2)!
But what i'm getting at & PTF made simular statements is that a junior simply wouldn't leave ur club if u were looking after him & giving him the best oppurtunity 2 play senior footy! I'd say 70% of kids coming up thru the 3rds would continue playing football & think they can make it in the seniors, sadly some just dont quite cut it at that level & when a club from another league then offers them a $100+ a game they think "shit yeah that'll help me while i'm on a 1st year apprentice wage of $250 while i try to pay rent" (if they not still nesting at mum & dads :D), then when 1 friend goes a couple more get interested then they spread out to other clubs offers & all of a sudden it looks like these clubs have deliberately come & "POACHED" ur players, but if they were that important to the club & in their future plans than they would offer them the same contract if not better!!
So all up sometimes football & players decisions to go to or leave a club has to be looked at from a wider picture because i'd be guessin the money helps but they have needs 2!! :thumbsu:

Re: Murray Football League (Part 5)

What a turn up a hawk complaining about their younger players getting poached. I guess it's do as I say not as I do.
Well said SM I think your view is a realistic assessment of days situation whereas BH is living in the past. And we all need to ask ourselves in local footy who started splashing the big cash around which is ruining country footy?

Re: Murray Football League (Part 5)

Cobram seem to be throwing alot of money around have they picked any players yet?

I heard that Cobram have already signed a CHB from a GVFL side also Matt Gorman from Berrigan and 2 Yarra boys a Ruckman and an Onballer. Has anyone else heard this???

Looks like they might need to get a bigger bus the lads!!!
