R.I.P. Spencer Davis, of the Spencer Davis Group along with Steve and Muff Winwood and Peter York who had a string of hits in the 60's, passed away earlier in the week at the ripe pld age of 81. Another great musician headed for rock and roll heaven. Seen here introducing the group..

Is that Steve Winwood on keyboard and vocals.
It’s a different arrangement or timing of vocals than I’ve heard that song before.

That's Steve, 17 years old at the time....the rest is history, one of the finest multi instrumentalists and singers on the Planet.

No lip syncing in those days that was performed live on German television.

he was in progress rock band Yes I think but I liked reading in Ozzy Osbournees book that he was in the studio that Sabbath were at and came in and helped on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath when they were having some troubles. First Sabbath album to have a bit of piano and keyboards on it.

Think your mixing up Yes with Steve's Prog Rock band Trafffic.
Mate I've been into Steve Winwood since I was teenager, his 1st band was Spencer Davis Group, then Powerhouse with Eric Clapton, then Prog rock band Traffic with Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason, then Blind Faith with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker, then the reformed Traffic for a stint in the mid 90's. All the time also releasing solo albums. Steve's also contributed to many other great artists' albums through the years mainly hammonfd organ, most notably featured on Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland". There's hardly a musical instrument he's not maestro class with...He's a sh*t hot guitarist as well.
Don't get much better than this Guitar solo on his Traffic hit Dear Mr. Fantasy playing here with Randal Bramblett (Hammond Organ) and Walfredo Reyes on drums.

Sweet. His Strat sounds better than mine. Got a feeling it’s something to do with the operator. 🤣

Any Brian Jonestown Massacre fans here?

In the 2nd half of this year Anton Newcombe went on a creative spree where he recorded a song just about every day and uploaded to youtube. Think he's up to around 60 songs. Pretty sure he's writing and recording most of it himself in Berlin. As you can imagine, some of them are a bit rough, but there are some absolute pearlers in there. For someone whose brain if fairly cooked and whose voice is quickly giving up on him, he still produces some amazing work. Hopefully some of these get re-recorded and released properly.

They've got one of (if not) the best rock catalogues in history.

Listened to more modern music this year. Was a bit of a new year's resolution for me last year. Not enough to vote in Triple Js hottest 100 (barely know a single song on their list despite my best efforts) but listened to enough to post my Top 20 Songs of 2020 in here

20. Pippa & Loser Supreme - Lightblue

Pippa is Canadian/Filipino. This is trippy, dreamy, trance-y stuff.

19. Psychic Temple - On The Slide

Solo artist who possesses a sense of humour. Chris Schlarb has been working as Psychic Temple for a few years and has named some albums II, III, IV and - his latest - Houses Of The Holy. The latest release is a double album with him working with a completely different backing band on each side. Means that there's Country, Jazz, Psych and finally a full orchestra on Side 4.

18. Drab City - Working For The Men

Creepy art-pop, this is a sombre sounding revenge ballad.

17. Lost Horizons feat. Porridge Radio - One For Regret

A punchy single from Lost Horizons, a duo that includes Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins’ fame.

16. The Wolfhounds - Can't See The Light

This English rock/indie band have been around since the 80s.
