wtf.:p

Yes well I am serious punter and was just thinking about this today.

There is the unusual opportunity to back a club to win twice in a couple of hours.

From past experiences obviously I will stick to strictly 1 unit bets per day per round policy, but it is kinda exciting.

I think one of the real issues is a draw, unless there is a rule regarding drawn matches.

Need to follow this up.

Thoughts?

The groups are:

Adelaide - Melbourne - Port
Carlton - Richmond - Collingwood
West Coast - Hawthorn - Freo
Essendon - Brisbane - St.Kilda
GWS - Sydney - Gold Coast
Geelong - North - Western Bulldogs

I initially thought the Bulldogs too, I remember reading that they were going to try to win it this year, however they are in a pretty tough group. I am not sure how the progression goes but I can see the Kangaroos being keen to do well also, the cats are also unknown as to how serious they will take the competition.

Might have a small nibble or Carlton and Hawthorn.

A tip;

For group winners, back one of the 2 teams that play "back to back" games.

Why you ask?

Because they are only allowed to make 2 changes between games, meaning they will most likely field a stronger team then the team that can make as many changes as it wants if it plays first and last on it's group matchday/night.

Avoid Essendon like the plague, they play 1st and last in their group, and Hird has already stated he may use the whole list (most of which is either shit or too young).

i wouldn't back the Dogs or Swans.

The Dogs won't want any part of winning this comp after the thought they peaked too early last year.

The Swans are likely to take the Roos approach--remember Longmire has served under him for a long time & Roos never wanted to progress in these tournaments.

NM or Rich make some interest.

Surely the swans will not want to not progress at the expense of the two noobs?

I'm with Kahuna, if there's a market on progressing through the group stage, I'll be on the swans.

I reckon Adelaide wouldn't mind a good start to the year post retirements and coming off a disappointing 2010. You look at their team and you wouldn't think there would be many that would be sat out rested and they bat deep with similar players, especially through the midfield. You really have to wait and see the respective squads for R1 to have any idea though.

At this stage I would want to be on Geelong. That comes from hearing a few days ago that Scott wants all seniorplayers involved come NAB cup time. Treating this part of the year a bit more serious then Bomber was when he basically let the senior plyers come back at their will after summer.

You really think the Swans will want to lose their first ever match against GWS? I doubt it. Would not set a good precedent at all.

Tab Odds Out today. Thoughts?

You would think Collingwood are ridiculous odds :

5081 ADELAIDE 15.00 5082 BRISBANE 51.00 $ 5083 CARLTON 9.00 $ 5084 COLLINGWOOD 4.50 $ 5085 ESSENDON 21.00 $ 5086 FREMANTLE 9.00 $ 5087 GEELONG 7.00 $ 5088 HAWTHORN 11.00 $ 5089 NORTH MELBOURNE 26.00 $ 5090 MELBOURNE 15.00 $ 5091 PORT ADELAIDE 41.00 $ 5092 RICHMOND 41.00 $ 5093 ST KILDA 5.00 $ 5094 SYDNEY 15.00 $ 5095 WEST COAST 41.00 $ 5096 WESTERN BULLDOGS 15.00 $ 5097 GOLD COAST 51.00 $ 5098 GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY 151.00 $

North melbourne @ $26 seems great value. The Bulldogs have already said they will be going in with a very young list to give a few guys a trial in the NAB cup while Geelong will probably do likewise and even if they dont North Melbourne still beat them easily in the NAB cup last year

They are just being safe with the Pies, we have no real injuries, and if we actually decide to get serious about the NAB Cup, we'll probably win it, as we have a very weak pool (Carlton minus Judd and Richmond).

I might back Freo at 9.00, if they win their pool, they could play all their games at home (if the AFL is nice to them). And yes, North look like decent value also.
