Interesting that Redden had a lot more hitouts, even though Cox dominated possessions (25 to 13).

They had 5 players with more than 20 touches, we had none. Yet we finished with only a dozen less disposals. Clearly we shared the load well, with our defenders getting a lot of the pill.

Thrilled with Butcher's performance, yet again.

Awesome effort boys, looks as though Redden can play with 23 hitouts against Cox and Lynch. Great result considering the team we sent to WA

12 Senior players missing and we come out with that vs WC down 3-4 stars.

Enormous effort Port, I'm stoked with that effort. So much to take away from that. Not to mention we played in WA where wins aren't easy to come by.

Bring on round 1!

Yep it was a great effort but we should keep it in perspective. West Coast definitely put the cue in the rack which they wouldn't do come the regular season. Still very, very happy with that performance though

I reckon both teams had equal quality and numbers out of their first 22 players.

Very pleased with how the team played. Real good to see players like Butcher, Jacobs, McCarthy, Redden and basically our young players really show something. 2 weeks in and without a doubt more positives then negatives.

Yep pleased with that hit out. Disappointing not to win but I think Primus wouldn't be too concerned. Take a bow butch, dstew and mcCarthy. Special mention to Ben newton for getting on the park!

Sounded like a terrific effort. Listening to the game early was tough going, was sounding like a long day at the office. But to the credit of the young players they lifted their workrate and skills and could easily have won.

Early early days but some good signs. Look forward to the game in Victor next week.

Big Red -2 kicks, 11 handballs, 2 marks, 6 tackles, 25 hitouts to Cox's 13 hitouts says he stood tall tonight.

Watch out Lobbe and Renouf. Get yourself fit and healthy quickly or you might be spending the first half of the year in the SANFL.

As far as I could tell from the commentary Redden's second and third efforts were really good - 6 tackles tells a bit of a story. He showed that in the two games last week as well. Starting to turn him into a bit of a raging bull.

I didn't hear the commentators call him that much until late in the 3rd. Hopefully we will get some vision of the game on PTV in the next couple of days when the video boys with the cameras get back to Alberton.

Hey just wanted to say very well played tonight, and good luck for this year.Signs so far have been pretty good id suggest. The main test being to keep up consistent,4 quarter efforts over the course of the season.Do that and id suggest youd be knocking on the door of the top 8.

Good on ya lecca. Wish your mob all the best this year too(except rnd 21) :thumbsu:

Went to the game only to find out it was sold out but KT was kind enough to organise entry. Pretty impressed as he wouldn't know me from a bar of soap.

Pretty average game to watch in terms of intensity but the youth from both sides were exciting to watch. The kids still have a long way to go but show glimpses of an exciting future.

I was impressed by butcher, pfeiffer, Logan and westhoff. Disappointed by sal and McCarthy. Hopefully they are just under done but sal looked lost and out of breathe. McCarthy can move but can't hit a target by foot or by hand (not sure if he is afl standard - hopefully just a bad game as he does get involved).

Highlight of the day was seeing a mandurite wearing a crocheted "norm life be in it" hat with swan beer cans stiched into it. I wish I had a photo for you! It brought the best of his grandma and grandpa together in one fashion item!

Second best highlight was taking the lead with minutes to go. I don't think the crowd noticed port was even in the game until then.

Port has turned the corner on and off the field! It may not feel like it yet but it has started with attitude, communication and purpose.

McCarthy hit the target at least 3 times that I know of

Massively impressed by Redden. People on our board are saying Cox was taking it easy because it's only the NAB Cup, and geez I hope it's true because the youngster clearly took the points against him. Good size, won most of the hitouts and was fairly useful around the ground. Will give Lobbe and Renouf a real fight for the number 1 spot.

Thought Port were solid overall, looked like being shut out of the contest early but fought back in the latter stages of the 1st and pushed us all the way from there. Good signs for an improved ladder position this year, especially when you consider the blokes that sat the game out like Boak and Cassisi.
